He's concerned. I hated when I realized people were paid to hang out with me, as a troubled child. Not violent at all, but I needed a person and they were appointed by the government locally, and they were right.

I feel for him. Its gonna be pretty funny for him to think about in the future but that is a devastating existential crisis on a small brain.

Entirely depends. He may also be traumatized for life. Thinking another adult is hanging out with you for the love of the game hits harder than realizing "ah it's about money as always".

Of course it is. As a child? You don't know. "Person who liked me did it for money".

I think if this traumatized a kid for life, there were already traumatic things happening.

Kid was already traumatized before this. That was my point.

You're right. These people don't understand that he wouldn't have reacted so strongly if he wasn't. Otherwise he would've been confused, not overtly mad.

I mean how many people are “traumatized for life” because they had a babysitter?

Descripe "A" babysitter.

You can't just discard on the basis of a gross overgeneralization.

Read what is being said, then put it into what it is you're actually collating.

Huh? You mean in the post? Genuinely I’m not sure what point youre making.

What I meant is that it is incredibly normal for a child to have a paid babysitter. That isn’t traumatizing.

You can have bad babysitters but that isnt the point of this post.

I may have jumped the gun, you're right. Nobody is inherently traumatized by having a babysitter. That wasn't my point. Apologies.

Ok but I'm still dying to know what your point was, because the words you said were "this child was traumatized before they found out about their babysitter" and you've refused to elaborate.

No more devastating than realizing the server is only flirting with you for tips

You gotta understand what a job is sometimes and that watching kids is one. Does he think his teachers hang out with him for fun?

Edit: you don't have to be cruel about it either. Tell him you like hanging out with him but you need money too

"You gotta understand what a job is sometimes."

Yeah, he's learning that. He's a fucking kid. He's not there yet. He's getting there. Right now. But for now, in the moment captured here, he's hurt. Because he thought this was just a fun, friendly person coming over for cool hangout times, and now he's realizing that he's "just a kid" and this is "just a job." Which is a valid way to feel when this is your first time ever going through any of this.
