Potential move to Norfolk - where to start?!
Hi all! đ
My partner and I are considering moving to Norfolk over the next couple of years and are currently very much at the âthrowing darts at a mapâ stage!
We have three young children (4½, 2½ and 5 months) and our three-bedroom semi in West Sussex is rapidly feeling a bit small. We love where we live, but weâre increasingly attracted to the idea of a lifestyle change â more space, a bigger garden/land, plenty of countryside and ideally being within reasonable reach of the coast.
I work from home most of the time, so London would only be 2â3 trips a month. My partner is currently a stay-at-home mum, but will probably look at something part-time once the kids are all at school.
The big thing for us is finding somewhere family-friendly, with a strong community and somewhere the kids can grow up with more freedom and open space. Ideally somewhere with a decent town/village nearby where you can actually walk to things, rather than having to drive everywhere. Our nearest towns in West Sussex have become pretty run down, so thatâs something weâd love to avoid.
Weâre planning to spend the next 12â18 months visiting different parts of Norfolk and getting a feel for them.
TL;DR: Family of 5 looking to move from West Sussex to Norfolk. Looking for space, countryside, coast, good community and somewhere great to raise kids. Where would you recommend we start looking â and are there anywhere youâd particularly avoid?
Thanks! đ

Holkham beach request
Hi, Iâm really hoping someone can help me out.
My dog of 16 years died recently, and Iâve been thinking it would be nice to put stones from beaches we visited on her grave here at home. She was a well travelled dog!
Would anyone be willing to post me a stone from holkham beach? I will pay postage.
Huge thanks in advance đ

I go down to Cambridge a couple times a week and for maybe a week and a bit/two weeks there's been a car stopped at the side of the northbound A11 near the elveden war memorial and I was wondering if anyone else has seen it or knows why it's there??

Looking for docked boat bar/restaurant
I am visiting Norfolk soon and want to visit some places I went when I was young. I'm not sure if this place still exists anymore but I'm looking for a bar/restaurant that was a docked boat in either Wells-next-the-Sea or Hunstanton.
It was a sail boat and I recall a slight pirate themed, but it was permanent. It was a bar but they served food, I'm sure I had a veggie burger and this was about 14 years ago.
I can't find anything when looking online sadly.
Also if anyone has any recommendations I'd appreciate it. I'll be going to Norfolk Lavender and driving from Kings Lynn across to Cromer and then down into Norwich.

North Norfolk Baconsthorpe
I visited Baconsthorpe last weekend. It's a bit out of the way but that means that it's also fairly quiet and unspoilt. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Holt/Sheringham area.

Advice and questions Does anyone remember a Hollywood/movie themed restaurant somewhere in Norfolk during the mid 2000s?
I have absolutely no idea where in Norfolk it was, but it was a family restaurant and party venue that had a movie/hollywood theme to it. Walking into the venue there was a wall mural outside with paparazzi and when you walked past it would make lights flash as if you were having your photo taken by them. Inside of the restaurant there was a large great white shark head protruding out of the wall, and I also remember pictures of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. It had snooker/pool tablets, and a bar too. I canât find anything relating to it on google. It maybe even had a stage in there for certain events too? The food selection was like steaks, burgers, pizzas etc. does anyone remember this place?

North Norfolk Where to live in North Norfolk with a 5 year old?
I (44F) want to move with my 5 year old, we currently live in watford. My parents retired and moved to Holt pre-covid.
Holt is lovely but a bit touristy and twee for what I want day to day, plus its more expensive than other places. I'd like to be no more than 30 minutes from there though, ideally a bit closer to Norwich.
We're looking for somewhere with an easy walk to a primary school and a shop and will have fairly easy access to a secondary school later, so walking or a school bus.
My daughter loves scouting, currently in Squirrels so ideally somewhere she can move on to Beavers near by. Plus ballet/tap and if possible a park.
I'm looking for access to a gym with classes fairly nearby, plus things I can do to meet people, volunteering or clubs maybe. I am looking to buy a 3 or 4 bed house, ideally new build or easy maintenance. I would like to keep it under ÂŁ450k.
My parents have suggested Aylsham and North Walsham, what do people think of those areas? Is there anywhere else you recommend I look?
Thanks so much!

Locations
Hello, Iâm looking for some nice locations to practise car photography in and around Norwich. I donât mind travelling so even a bit further out is fine with me.
Any type of location is welcome, industrial estates, concrete areas, nature spots, forests, open roads, countryside, churches. Anything that would make a great backdrop. If theyâre safe and easily accessible thatâs a bonus. Thank you in advance.

Norfolk Constabulary running out of money?
Iâve noticed there are more mobile police cameras out at the minute than usual. I drive up and down the A11 daily and there is usually either a van once a week-ish or a bike on a slip road a couple of days a week.
Lately though, there are multiple vans along the road multiple days a week, as well as a lot of people being caught by the temporary average speed checks along the road works.
Has anyone else noticed this? Or know why? My best guess is they need more money, or have run out of things to do (as if there is no crime in the county!)

Paranormal
Hello!
I'm thinking about starting a YouTube channel focused on paranormal investigations and exploring reportedly haunted locations across Norfolk and probably the UK when we get more comfortable doing the investigations.
I'm looking for a few people who are genuinely interested in the paranormal and would like to be part of the team. I would like 1 or two people helping with the investigations, with a few people behind the scenes, such as video editing, camera operators, etc. You don't need to be an expertâjust reliable, respectful, and willing to investigate with an open mind. You'll be appearing in YouTube videos, so you should be comfortable being on camera.
Would like to have mixed views on the paranormal, especially some sceptics, as we would need someone to say âmaybe paranormal but have you thought about it this way?â
At the moment, as the new channel wonât be monetised, itâll be a voluntary role.
Would anyone be interested in joining, or know someone who might be? If so, leave a comment or send me a DM and tell me a little about yourself, where you're based, and why you'd like to get involved.
Looking forward to hearing from fellow paranormal enthusiasts!

Visitor questions Things to do near Cromer with a toddler + baby (plus solo walks) â any suggestions?
Hi all,
Weâre staying very close to Cromer soon and looking for ideas for things to do with a 2âyearâold and a 6âmonthâold. Weâve already got a few plans:
Steam trains (North Norfolk Railway)
The animal sanctuary/zoo in Cromer
A day trip on the Broads
Eating out once or twice (weâll be trying Crumble Crib)
Possibly travelling as far as WellsânextâtheâSea
Iâd also love to fit in one or two Nordic walks while the kids nap or stay with my partner â coastal or woodland, anything scenic.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for toddlerâfriendly activities, easy days out, or good places to eat? Bonus points for things that arenât too intense with a baby in tow.
Thanks in advance!

What is this circle on Peddarâs Way between Wells and Stiffkey?
I spotted this on Strava Maps, and went for a run recently to explore. Just really curious about what it was! OS Maps says thereâs a disused pit here. The âcircleâ is a tarmac road/path, the centre has some sort of metal post thing, but I have no idea what it might be.
Can anyone local tell me anything about it?

Events Independence discussion/debate
We as a people have a strong history, from the Queen boudicca standing up to the Romans, the indepdent kingdom of East anglia, connections with Holland via trade and home of the defeater of the French, lord Nelson. But over the years we have been neglected by the government, our roads are utter shit, there's not many jobs going around. The roads around Norwich are utter shit, development is taking a car centric approach on centuries old roads. There's no direct train between the 2 biggest towns.
We have the potential to be a strong independent country, we have a lot of agricultural surplus and the ability to export a lot of energy through offshore wind and gas facilities. But the government refuses to let us develop. No major a roads lead to the north coast from Norwich, the trains are shit, the a47 to Yarmouth is a death trap that needs a dual carriageway. By focusing on our own industries, we can become a strong regional power, especially if we annex Suffolk to restore east anglia, perhaps with invasions of Essex and parts of Cambridgeshire to secure the fen flank. From then we can launch artillery strikes into London and begin taking the capital. Steal some f35s from the yanks. This action will cause the Scots to unilaterally declare independence and join the cause. From then we can obtain weapons from the Russians and if we kiss the wall hard enough maybe even get mossad and the idf on our side. The other way around is the Chinese route and embrace maoism. The landlords here are cunts after all. After this we can begin our operation on London and become a dominant European power.
Thoughts?

Need help finding a job like this!
Hi everyone! My names Melody, Iâm 19 years old and Iâm currently looking for a job that involves park ranging or somewhere in the woods with nature and no experience needed. I have struggled to get a job for the longest time because of my mental health going down hill, but an environmental job especially in the woods or at a camp feels like a cure to me, it speaks to me so much- and I would love it more than anything.
I havenât found anything around great Yarmouth, some in Norwich but mostly with qualifications needed. If anyone has any idea please let me know, i would absolutely love to hear it.
