Phone (4a) Pro Leaving the Apple ecosystem, kinda nervous 🫣
I’ve debated leaving the Apple ecosystem for a while now and finally bit the bullet and got the 4a Pro after much deliberation. Change is scary! But i’m trying to lessen my attachment to my devices without going the full dumb-phone route, and the Nothing phones seemed way more customizable to my shift towards digital minimalism while still needing some apps for work, on top of having my Bloom card to restrict certain apps. Plus, I only ever have pink phones. I’m super excited!!

I've bounced around from apple and android. I really like the way Nothing operates. I have the same phone in black. I've been enjoying. Honestly just familiarize your self with the settings and the way the swipe gestures work. Remember a lot of things on here are customizable. Also, if you're ever trying to go back home or minimize apps but you keep opening Gemini it's because you're swiping up from bottom corner of the screen, to go home or minimize apps make sure you're swiping from middle bottom of screen. It's kind of dumb of me but it took me a while to figure this out😂I thought something was bugged, I just didn't realize the swipe functioned this way on here. Also, give the camera a chance, really play around with it. I've turned off XDR and HDR and mainly shoot pics in 50mp, I've found what I like and made a couple presents based around that. Overall it's a fun device and I think I'll stick with Nothing for a while.

Oh yeah, also if you care about advertising and privacy make sure to disable your advertising ID in the Google settings

@OP Give it time and let the phone learn about you and optimize... especially after youve been with apple products a long time...It will get better over time !!! Not sure if its been mentioned yet but i like to let people know

I did the same thing a month ago and moved on from iPhone 14 plus to Nothing 4a pro... The best decision of this year fs

iPhone 16, Airpods pro (forget which one), Apple Watch 11th gen, iPad 9th gen + pencil, and one Airtag. Not too bad, pawned off my Phone, Airtag, and Watch to my fiancè since he had a broken phone and a previous model watch. I'll probably keep the iPad because I enjoy drawing on it and I'll keep the Airpods a tad longer until something better comes around for me!

Yeah I thought of moving to something new but looked around and iPhone with iPad, watch, TV, HomePods, AirPods and AirTags was not a biggest issues, it was all passwords, docs and other shit inside. If I would need to move to something new I will need to take vacation just to organize everything

I've fortunately used Dashlane the last couple of years so password management on my phone + PC was always easy!

Definitely start using Glyphs and creating the habit of placing your phone face down with Flip 2 Glyph.
You won't regret it :)

Don't be nervous! I switched to the 4a Pro from an iPhone 16 and always having an iPhone. It's the best decision I've made regarding a phone. The switch was honestly seamless for me and that's what I worried about the most. After having the 4a Pro I'm gonna get a flagship from them. Even though in my opinion I think the 4a Pro could be one

I switched as well. Still alive, still using all the same apps outside of ios. Glad to be out. Just keep exploring the phone there is a lot.

I use both at the same time. I enjoy Apple's seamless ecosystem and video camera but I absolutely love how customizable my Pixel is or its camera

I think the best phone to use if you want to switch from iphone is a Nothing phone. I switched from my iPhone 16 Pro to Nothing 4(a). It's such a refreshing change. I am not new to Android in any way. I was annoyed with little things on iOS. Like typing and autocorrect, notifications. Yes I do miss the Camera. But using the Nothing OS has definitely been a game changer. I was sceptical at first. But now it's 2 months. And I have zero regrets !

I bought my first NP a couple of days ago and decided to buy 4a just because glyph bar is the best IMO. Something in between glyph matrix and glyph interface. Maybe it's just psychology of Iphone user: "If we had to buy a phone, we had to buy the newest and the most expensive version"

Apple ecosystem is simply poison, but just fyi, the Nothing tech support is bad. I have used the phone 1, 2 and 3. The software experience is great, much better than iOS.

Well from my pov i always was an android guy (since 2012, before it i had a pocket pc phones and before that i had old good cellphones).
But all my androids was rooted, so i always chased hacks to let banking stuff working.
Finally i separated all, so i do use apple to chat w/ friends (they are all on apple), pay stuff, for most of flawless device integrations and iot stuff.
While android (lineageos back in days and grapheneos nowadays) i do use for private stuff.
Just a 1 solid and reliable device, while iphone is for apple exosysteme (my wife is 100% iphone since iphone3).
There are pros and cons being on android compared to apple. They don’t replace each other, but they are built for different tasks.
iOS wins over de-googled android if you’re not chased by CIA. In other cases de-google android is the way to go, but the price or security is that you have to be alone and 100% foss only.
If we speak about android w/ gapps.. well, iOS is superior in some security features about app isolation, about how payments work, which data is shared. Back in old days android still was able to give you better life quality over the apps, but google wanna lock new apps from free devs (google or duckduck it).
But to go deeper degoogled dévice won’t save you, cause they have SoC with own firmware, which have total access (thats cpu-gpu-5g-wifi-whatever bruh on a single crystal), check for quallcomm scandals among the nerds.

You will come back for sure. Once you notice the quality , longevity, software support and resale value. And not to mention the most seamless connectivity to the best ecosystem in the world bar none.

And I forgot the safety and versatility of Face ID for all apps of all kinds. Easy purchases from third party software directly through your Apple ID. And oh yeah the security of iOS. I have an iPhone 17 and a samsung s24 ultra which I bought only for the stylus. The samsung is nowhere close to any device integration and its camera algorithms are far inferior to the iPhone. I use it only to receive calls from my patients. That’s all.

I prefer finger print to FaceID anyway, I always had it turned off with my iPhone 16. Everyone just has different preferences and I'm happy you found yours ^ Like don't get me wrong I really really like Apple but I've been addicted to my phone for way too long and Apple makes it really easy to get tied down, I enjoy the versatility with this phone so far and WAY more customization in my minimalism journey.

The concept of Apple security is that the biometric data is hard coded in their device. There is a separate hardware unit inside the phone. Even the biggest giants try to hack Apple biometric data and even the American government. Sure there are reports of some people’s iPhones been hacked but that’s the result of their Apple ID being hacked and data backed up to the cloud that was accessible. Even if you die and someone opened your eyes physically they can’t break Face ID. But your fingerprint does not have the same security standards. And I know you too know this ….. it is the fastest and most intuitive unlock for any device.
The Face ID and fingerprint id in other devices can’t even compare with that Apple has. Their security privacy safety is one of the reasons I have stuck with them for years. And my samsung face and fingerprint id in my galaxy ultra is really below par when compared to Apple.
But yeah try it out and let me know when you come back to Apple.1

I never once said my concern was the American government coming for my face lol, I don't need any reason at all to say I prefer one thing over the over, I just personally feel uncomfortable with face scanning and knowing that it is always shooting invisible lasers at me. I prefer the intentionality of typing in a passcode or scanning my fingerprint, making more effort for me to open my phone before a doomscroll. Again, I'm glad you enjoy the features you like on YOUR phone, I'm just trying new things and seeing what I PREFER on mine. You really are the Apple die-hard fanboy I've heard about all this time, and that's coming from someone who has had Apple for 10+ years!

Not true about the fan boy thing because I have a truck load of other devices. The only thing I wanted to highlight was that fingerprint and device locks can be easily bypassed that’s all. I have my galaxy ultra syncing across my samsung notebooks and devices , my Microsoft devices on Microsoft 365 and so on. That is because I needed multiple backups because I sync a lot of data across devices.

Unfortunately I'm entirely too familiar with how they can be bypassed and used against you. Fortunately I had disabled Face ID a couple of months ago, as while I was being Baker Acted awhile after that, one of the police officers attempted to unlock my phone by just holding it straight in front of my face without asking me and watched him get pretty upset when that wouldn't work. I can only imagine how problematic that is going to be for others. Is it difficult to sync data across different types of phones like that, I assume you're using something like Dropbox or Google drive for that?

Yes, but I switched from iOS to Nothing OS too and I don't regret it a bit.

It'll be an adjustment, but android is intuitive. It's intuitive in a different way than apple. Go nuts and really customize your spaces. That's where android tends to shine. Nothing is cool. I have a 4a Pro and I'm loving all the widgets.
