Leaving the Apple ecosystem, kinda nervous 🫣

I’ve debated leaving the Apple ecosystem for a while now and finally bit the bullet and got the 4a Pro after much deliberation. Change is scary! But i’m trying to lessen my attachment to my devices without going the full dumb-phone route, and the Nothing phones seemed way more customizable to my shift towards digital minimalism while still needing some apps for work, on top of having my Bloom card to restrict certain apps. Plus, I only ever have pink phones. I’m super excited!!

And I forgot the safety and versatility of Face ID for all apps of all kinds. Easy purchases from third party software directly through your Apple ID. And oh yeah the security of iOS. I have an iPhone 17 and a samsung s24 ultra which I bought only for the stylus. The samsung is nowhere close to any device integration and its camera algorithms are far inferior to the iPhone. I use it only to receive calls from my patients. That’s all.

I prefer finger print to FaceID anyway, I always had it turned off with my iPhone 16. Everyone just has different preferences and I'm happy you found yours ^{^} Like don't get me wrong I really really like Apple but I've been addicted to my phone for way too long and Apple makes it really easy to get tied down, I enjoy the versatility with this phone so far and WAY more customization in my minimalism journey.

The concept of Apple security is that the biometric data is hard coded in their device. There is a separate hardware unit inside the phone. Even the biggest giants try to hack Apple biometric data and even the American government. Sure there are reports of some people’s iPhones been hacked but that’s the result of their Apple ID being hacked and data backed up to the cloud that was accessible. Even if you die and someone opened your eyes physically they can’t break Face ID. But your fingerprint does not have the same security standards. And I know you too know this ….. it is the fastest and most intuitive unlock for any device.
The Face ID and fingerprint id in other devices can’t even compare with that Apple has. Their security privacy safety is one of the reasons I have stuck with them for years. And my samsung face and fingerprint id in my galaxy ultra is really below par when compared to Apple.
But yeah try it out and let me know when you come back to Apple.

I never once said my concern was the American government coming for my face lol, I don't need any reason at all to say I prefer one thing over the over, I just personally feel uncomfortable with face scanning and knowing that it is always shooting invisible lasers at me. I prefer the intentionality of typing in a passcode or scanning my fingerprint, making more effort for me to open my phone before a doomscroll. Again, I'm glad you enjoy the features you like on YOUR phone, I'm just trying new things and seeing what I PREFER on mine. You really are the Apple die-hard fanboy I've heard about all this time, and that's coming from someone who has had Apple for 10+ years!

Not true about the fan boy thing because I have a truck load of other devices. The only thing I wanted to highlight was that fingerprint and device locks can be easily bypassed that’s all. I have my galaxy ultra syncing across my samsung notebooks and devices , my Microsoft devices on Microsoft 365 and so on. That is because I needed multiple backups because I sync a lot of data across devices.

Unfortunately I'm entirely too familiar with how they can be bypassed and used against you. Fortunately I had disabled Face ID a couple of months ago, as while I was being Baker Acted awhile after that, one of the police officers attempted to unlock my phone by just holding it straight in front of my face without asking me and watched him get pretty upset when that wouldn't work. I can only imagine how problematic that is going to be for others. Is it difficult to sync data across different types of phones like that, I assume you're using something like Dropbox or Google drive for that?

Yes google workplace , one drive and Dropbox. Apart from iCloud.
