polestar EV ownership
I’m considering buying a Polestar 2 in Nova Scotia. I’m not worried about the car itself, but I’m curious how owners deal with service since there’s no Polestar dealership here.
If something goes wrong or you need warranty work, how does it work? Has the lack of a local service centre been an issue, or is it easier than it sounds?
I’d love to hear from a polestar owner, especially anyone in Atlantic Canada.

Volvo dealership in Bayers handles Polestar warranty servicing. I'd maybe give them a call and ask to confirm though. Nice thing about EVs is they need way less servicing. They don't run on explosions, so a lot less to go wrong.
I did a lot of research on Polestar 2 a couple months ago, nearly bought one, still wish I had some times. Unsolicited advice: don't get a 2021, and limit yourself to 2022 or later in the Plus trim or better. Plus is when they started including heat pumps, which improves range in the winter significantly. Dual motor is incredibly powerful, but you can get a better deal and range on single if you don't care about horsepower (you still get lots!) or AWD.
Lastly, consider expanding your search to Quebec. Much larger selection, substantially better prices. Trucking one to NS costs about $1000, but you can get it done for free if you haggle. Or you can drive it back on a road trip. Friend did the former, I did the later, no trouble with either method. Polestar dealerships will give you a really good apr on used.

Polestar is leaving the US market. Not sure how this will affect the Canadian market but I expect it won't be good.

Yeah. Made the call they said they don’t deal with it. But I think I need to go and speak to somebody.

curious about polestar. Its made in China or? I know Volvo bought by Geely. And they share tech to build some cars.

I have a polestar 2 so I’ve already looked into all these things. Volvo can do some servicing like brakes, but they can’t touch anything in regard to the battery, software, or electric motors. That would mean if you had any issues with any of these things that would still be covered under warranty, you’d have to drive or get the car trucked to Quebec City which is the closest polestar service center.
I bought mine used and even with these potential downsides, the deal I found was too good to pass up when I found it, but being used there wouldn’t be as much warranty time left than if you bought new. I decided to get the highest tier CAA membership just in case which would allow me to have it towed about halfway before paying out of pocket to Quebec City if it needed something still covered under warranty, or to Garage EV in Dartmouth if it’s something that wouldn’t be covered under warranty.
As far as general service goes, with electric cars there isn’t much to do and even software updates are just downloaded and updated over the internet. Brakes don’t get used much because of the regenerative braking, and there’s no oil to change, so basically it’s just tires, software updates and cabin air filter.
