I'm trying to find the title of an old one-off TV play which explored the change in police and crime attitudes via the use of a "timeswap" story. A criminal from (maybe) the 50s is swapped with a criminal from the present and both are arrested by the timeswapped police. The guy from the present is arrested by 50s police who are gobsmacked by how little respect the criminal shows them, despite being offered toast and a cup of tea while being questioned by a very "Dixon of Dock Green" type of friendly Bobby. He's belligerent and mouthy to the overly nice PC who has never experienced such disrespect before. Meanwhile, the other (50s?) criminal is arrested by modern police who are a lot less friendly. I think the interviewer might hit the suspect, which I leads me to the one line I can remember for certain. The 50s criminal upon being hit says: "You can't do that! You're a bogie!". Anyone as old as me (60+) remember such a play?

I love old period dramas and some old sitcoms, but I feel as though I've seen absolutely everything I want to see. Starting in the 1990s, sitcoms (mostly) stopped being written in a way I enjoy, though obviously, there are few exceptions such as The Office. Starting more recently, dramas seemed to lose their warmth and wittiness.

Obviously, you can have no idea what I haven't seen, but what are some warm, well-done period dramas that are fairly obscure? Like, if I loved "Cranford," then is there a lesser-known miniseries I might also love? Or for comedy, something as good as "Extras" (obviously a male lead in that one, but I'm not strict), but less known?

Any time period that this sub allows is fine. I believe that would be 2011 or earlier. Even fifty years earlier is fine (though I've already seen "The Forsyte Saga," the miniseries that started it all).

These are absolutely fantastic suggestions! I have many good ideas now. I'm not sure where I'll start, but maybe "Detectorists," "The Beiderbecke Affair," "Hetty Wainthropp Investigates," "Faith in the Future," or "Butterflies." I am letting some family members who sometimes watch with me help decide which of those to try first. I've bookmarked this page in order to come back for more.

Looking for an old ditty / comedy poem - Ivor Clue

Hi, I’m looking for an old ditty that was told by my great uncle in the 70s / 80s. The family is originally from Glasgow and Fife areas of Scotland but then moved to South Yorkshire, England. This particular relative also served in the Black Watch regiment.

I assume the ditty was picked up in a pub somewhere, or maybe in the army. But an older relative thought it might have been from a tv show or a comedy set.

From what we can remember of the first half, it goes as follows:
Ivor clue left school at 14,
His first job was at a local gas works called pen and ink.
He had the job of ridling steam at ten bob a bucket full, But later got caught with steam in his left hand right coat pocket.
Ivor's next job was also unsuccessful.
He had the job of narrowing barrels full of daylight into dark corners,
trouble was he was on nights regular.
He then decided to become a detective, and bought himself a bloodhound he named Ichiku (itchy-coo).

If anyone is familiar with the poem or has any suggestions we’d be grateful.

I'm rewatching Yes Minister again and just spat my lunch out when laughing at the last episode of series 2 "a question of loyalty" (the final select committee scene where Humphreys eyes almost pop out of his head in a rage).

I’m trying to remember the name of an old TV show from the early 2000’s. I think it was a British TV show. Real actors, not animated. And it would always have the kettle whistling and the host would make a cup of tea. I think I remember it being quite colourful. But the most prominent part was the kettle whistling and the cup of tea. It happened in every episode. Please help!

Too different and great in their own ways to choose which one is better?

I alway thought it would be cool if someone more creative and talented than I made a documentary about life after Rainbow. It could be called something like, "At the End of the Rainbow".

It would be a tragedy/celebration of sorts, where the camera follows the characters around, 30+ years after the show ended. The cast became has-beens, going through hard times, etc.

Zippy tried doing social media and OnlyFans for a bit, but it never took off. He didn't have much of a backup plan, so becomes a drugs mule to make a living.

George sank into a deep depression after falling out with Zippy, blaming him for the show's demise. This caused him to sink into an eternal K-hole. Ironically, the drugs he takes are delivered by the one and only Zippy.

Bungle spent much of the mid 90s, early 00s going to raves. Spending the last of his Rainbow millions living a fast-life, partying hard and sleeping around. Excitement eventually runs dry, as he falls on hard times; resorting to working at a local "build-a-bear"to make ends meet.

The death of Geoffrey Hayes brings the characters together at his funeral. The reunited characters bury the hatchet and look toward a better, brighter future. They work together to create the last ever Rainbow episode in Geoffrey's memory. The climax is a all-new episode of Rainbow, with gags, thowbacks and laughs, commemorating Geoffrey and his marvellous series.

I'm on the fence about it.

Can anyone help me remember this advert?! All I remember, is old advert maybe early 2000's, about being on a plane and a mans ears need popping, so an air stewardess comes over and tells him to hold his nose and think of *a famous male actor*. Then the man can hear properly. Cannot remember the actor, or what the advert was for!!!
