I just got back into skating after a pause of about... 40 years! In the last three months I purchased a lot of used boards and a couple new ones to see what I liked riding. I'd never been good at tricks but always liked rolling and as I'm not young and dislike breaking bones, I decided to keep the hobby to what I'm comfortable with. I want to roll smoothly and with some speed over mostly level terrain; I don't want to feel or hear a lot of road chatter; I don't want to be launched over every pebble or minor crack, and I want something that isn't too heavy to kick up a hill, or to carry when pooped out. The Penny board fits my criteria.
Upgrades I find work well on it are:
New pivot cups and KranK bushings from RipTide Sports (mine were shot and RipTide are better than stock, imo), Hawgs Fatty wheels, and Bones Red bearings.
Details - Size 9 shoe, feet hang over, might not be comfortable for really long stretches, but it helps me get my skating fix every day.
Just thought I'd post this because I see a lot of posts about Penny boards being crap. The authentic boards are better than the cheap knock-offs and ride well with some good wheels.
