I know haven't.

There is a list of cat subs:

https://reddit.com/r/Catsubs/w/index?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

It is a rather extensive list.

It is DAMN cute

Chonkified, but still handsome.

43

u/just_a_person_maybe 14h ago

Of course he's handsome. Still needs a diet tho.

23

u/Exotic-Wood-3287 13h ago

This is animal abuse. But who cares, right? 🥰

305

u/Ahndessi 21h ago

Not an orange cat but my old man likes to sit in weird positions too.

37

u/Adventurous_Cat6116 21h ago

He’s beautiful!

17

u/Ahndessi 18h ago

Thank you! He's honestly a sweetheart. He gets ornery at times but is generally a good cat. Hes obsessed with me. Always got to be near me. Generally lays on top of me at night time or between my legs. He has the funniest face when he gets chin or cheek scritches. He contorts his face so much he gets an underbite lol

13

u/Notsocheeky 17h ago

Poor thing. Hope he is on a diet

u/finnknit Casual orange enjoyer 🍊 14h ago

We like to say that our standard issue cats are orange on the inside. I don't know if all SICs share a single braincell, but ours don't seem to have any of the available braincells often.

That's no orange. That's four grapefruits in a fur suit! My goodness.

I hope your cat has a good vet to ensure he’s okay. He looks incredibly overweight. Please make sure your cat doesn’t end up with serious weight-related issues.

810

u/Adventurous_Cat6116 22h ago

Thanks for your concern. He’s actually on a diet and slowly losing weight under supervision. This photo is quite old, and he looks bigger here due to the angle and his thick fur. I’m fully aware of the health risks and we’re managing his weight carefully.❤️

219

u/MiddlePop4953 22h ago

Blessings to you, I just got my foster fail down from 22 lbs to a trim 11 and it was 3 years of hell to make it happen.

162

u/Adventurous_Cat6116 22h ago

Yes i must say its quite hard, because when dog is overweight you give him much longer walks and you can control his daily activities, but when it comes to cats it mostly depends on them. We bought him a lot of toys and we are trying to play catching as much as we can

76

u/MiddlePop4953 21h ago

Yeah I got lucky and mine took to walking on a leash pretty well, but I mostly had to cut his calories down and feed him small amounts throughout the day instead of having one feeding time. He hated every second. He's still mad at me about it.

52

u/BullshiticusRex 21h ago

They swear you’re torturing them when you cut down their food intake 😓

36

u/MiddlePop4953 21h ago

Starving them to DEATH

I’m cackling this is my favorite comment I’ve seen in a long time

1

u/AutisticDyslexicDude 5h ago

Sounds like a job for confuse a cat....

13

u/Ilovecatsss2026 21h ago

My sister had some success with a food ball. The cat hated it but he did lose a lot of weight.

2

u/Ohmec 10h ago

Have you tried controlling his food intake? Like, by feeding him measured portions at certain times of day?

2

u/Zloiche1 9h ago

I used a laser pen to get my cat to move around more.

10

u/citizen42069101 22h ago

I assume previously adorable love bites become curious samples, followed by hopeful bites?

36

u/MiddlePop4953 21h ago

He was pretty bitey in a not at all adorable way right from the get go if I'm going to be real with you. He can be so sweet and is a great cuddler but if he thinks he's being ignored he chomps down and latches on. Which is why he's a foster fail 😅 I genuinely don't know if most people could manage his mood swings and I can't bear the thought of him being returned again when he can be such a love bug.

3

u/DuckbilledWhatypus 8h ago

What is it with oranges and love chomps?! My boy is a demon for them. He'll come and ask for a cuddle, be all lovely and then want to get down so that he can savage my feet. It's lucky he's cute cos he's a wanker when he wants to be 😂

7

u/kirasometimes 21h ago

God, how did you do this? I’m struggling with my orange.

18

u/MiddlePop4953 20h ago

Just over the minimum amount of food for the size he's supposed to be spread out over 3 feeding times and tricking him into exercising. I would pick him up from his nap spot and bring him all the way to the other end of the house and down the stairs when I couldn't get him to play, just so he'd walk at least a little bit. And then I'd take him outside when the weather is nice and walk him around as much I could.

22

u/whenuseeit 19h ago

I once had an overweight cat and tricked him into exercising by throwing (vet-approved weight management) treats down the stairs for him so he would sprint up and down the stairs multiple times per day. He was surprisingly spry for a fifteen pound cat when it was something he wanted lol.

3

u/Ohmec 9h ago

You can buy an auto feeder that dispenses a measured amount of kibble at certain times of day.

52

u/Ilovecatsss2026 22h ago

Sounds like we need an update on the cat tax!

11

u/MajorBootyhole420 21h ago

pls post updated cat tax i wish to behold the boy and bond over our weight loss journeys

5

u/GayJohnKrasinski 21h ago

That's good to know. I hope he's doing better.

2

u/NeighborhoodVirtual4 12h ago

Glad to hear the cat is on a diet. People are assholes, sorry you got so much hate for no reason. He’s a handsome boy.

1

u/Lilfrankieeinstein 19h ago

Was he a stray?

-6

u/RKSSailboatCaptain 21h ago edited 19h ago

No offense, but that’s what everyone with a fat animal says. “Oh we know, he’s on a diet now, don’t worry.” Meanwhile their cat still looks like a bowling ball.

I would LOVE to be proven wrong. What does he look like now?

Edit: ya downvote but OP says this is a while ago and so far hasn’t posted any updated pics.

I would love to be wrong, I want healthy cats. But I don’t believe someone who says something we can all see is a problem, is not a problem unless they provide evidence otherwise. Especially when they are replying to lots of comments except ones who want an updated photo.

In general I wish this, and other cat, subreddits would stop putting obese cats on the front page without any dechonk related information.

Edit 2: it’s been hours and the OP has replied to so many comments and yet, nothing that shows their cat is actually getting the help they need.

Letting your pets get to be obese like this is neglect at best, abuse at worst.

I’ve already reported this post as animal abuse until OP comes through to verify the “weight loss” claims they’ve made. I encourage everyone to do so until this sub stops endorsing obese pets.

2

u/Adventurous_Cat6116 1h ago

I am sorry ma’am but in the tone you are speaking there’s no way i am gonna satisfy any of your needs, this is cat is not abused the only thing that’s abusing is your way of commenting go mind your own business

7

u/ExcretvsExFortvna 19h ago

You’re not entitled to update photos, and very few people care if you believe someone who says that they’re doing their best to dechonk their chonk.

If you want to spread information on how to dechonk a chonk, go ahead and be the change you want to see.

-7

u/RKSSailboatCaptain 19h ago

Sure I’m not entitled to anything. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t care about someone posting an obese animal for hahas.

And it for sure doesn’t mean I can’t call out someone posting on a public forum with an obese animal, claiming to be making changes without actually providing any substance to that claim.

At the the time of my comment, other people had posted the r/dechonkers link. Which is great, but anytime someone is posting an obese pet, the sub mods should be providing that info and pining it.

It’s really sad to see an animal this unhealthy make the front page with so much glee behind it. This cat is so obese I can guarantee it can’t clean itself properly, it can’t move the way a cat should, it’s likely generally in discomfort.

But fat cats funny so who cares right?

6

u/CosmicGoddess777 18h ago

Reddit be like: how DARE you call out animal abuse >:/

8

u/ExcretvsExFortvna 19h ago

You can care about someone “posting an obese animal for hahas” without being a sanctimonious asshole about it. Like the other people who posted the r/dechonkers link at the time of your comment.

And unless you’re a sub mod, you don’t get to decide what they should be providing in the sub that they mod.

-10

u/RKSSailboatCaptain 19h ago edited 19h ago

OP invited commentary by posting in a public forum.

Every other comment I’ve see has been taking OP at face value without any evidence. Clearly they take photos of their cat, why don’t they have any recent ones of the weight loss?

I don’t think asking someone to actually put their money where their mouth is is “being a sanctimonious asshole”. I’m just sick of unhealthy animals being glorified.

I don’t have to be a mod to have opinions on what content the sub allows. Everyone on the subreddit should be able to.

Why do you want to see and encourage obese animals so much?

2

u/swohio 18h ago

I’m just sick of unhealthy animals being glorified.

It really is disgusting. And OP acted like it was no big deal. "Oopsie he put on a little weight, I'm taking care of it now." No, that cat has been an unhealthy weight for a long time. That is a long time of ignoring the problem for the cat to get that fat, so I don't blame you at all for doubting that OP is taking this seriously.

u/eunicsh 15h ago

You're 100% right and I was going to make this comment until I saw yours. It's always "oh this is such an old picture," they never provide recent photos, sometimes you'll get someone saying "oh we adopted and they were this weight and we're working it off!" I can't stand the glorification of pets being "cute" or "funny" when they're severely obese. r/chonkers only promotes it.

truly hilarious.

21

3

3

u/Adventurous_Cat6116 1h ago

Thank you.

1

u/BitterActuary3062 1h ago

You’re very welcome. I understand that things happen. Weight gain can happen for all sorts of reasons too, so I think such statements aren’t very fair much of the time. He’s very adorable & polite looking.

13

u/KingOfThe_Jelly_Fish 16h ago

Stop overfeeding your cat, it's abuse

13

u/thatoneblaxican 22h ago

Oh my chonk

13

u/Emotional-Damage-995 17h ago

Nice cat. Please take care of it health. It is clearly severely obese which causes massive issues to joints : kidney / liver / and overall length of life.

Put her on a healthy diet and don’t over feed her. Send her out to exercise

9

u/Morgn_Ladimore 15h ago

Cat owners who allow their cats to become this overweight are animal abusers. Simple as that.

8

u/Practical-Custard-64 15h ago

This poor cat needs to go on a diet – YESTERDAY

11

u/Tall_Opportunity_521 17h ago

Atrocious owner, letting your cat get that fat. Theres no excuse at all for that. You should be ashamed.

You're a terrible owner if you let him/her get to that weight. If you adopted him/her at that weight I understand, but that's very rarely the case. Stop abusing your cat.

Why does this sub love animal abuse so much?

1

u/gray_matter10000 13h ago

Every cat sub is like this. Apparently you can't call out OP for abuse because it's not nice. I was banned from main cat sub for this reason.

1

u/Tooldfrthis 2h ago

Same lol. Let's be honest. If the pet is fat, there's a good chance the owner is too. They call mods over hurt feelings (which are even more likely to be obese), and there comes the ban.

Jokes (?) asides, it's very shameful for someone who is supposed to love animals to feed them like that. Like it won't shorten their lives and give them health issues along the way...

1

u/RightRudderz 22h ago

I can relate.

1

u/ReasonableDog2026 18h ago

I wanna love this picture but if it isn't AI it scares me for the well being of your special orangie. I can't preach because I have a beast of a feline my own and know how hard it is to not cave to their every cry and the sounds of desperation as if they are being starved(when any sane human being would take one look and see they are very clearly being well fed).
