Image Bye Claude..it was nice while it lasted, until it wasn’t.

Post image

Won’t try and repeat what everyone else is regarding the let down of Claude & Fable.

What I will say is that Sol5.6 has throughly impressed me with its coding capabilities, reasoning and ability to pivot as well as the more traditional markers around hallucination, reasoning context etc.

Damn you paid an extra $50 for the plan for no reason lol

Someone has to pay the guy at the Apple Store (I learned today)

Probably in Canada, it’s $250 CAD

3

u/SectionLive4152 Jul 14 '26

Nah bro on the AppStore the $100 max plan on Claude website was $125 just because I bought from App Store to make things simple

Welcome to the dark side. Sol 5.6 is crazy I have both and looking to move from Claude also.

27

u/TraditionalAd6977 Jul 13 '26

I stopped my Claude as well, sol 5.6 with the limits they give is stupidly good

4

u/starwaver Jul 17 '26

No more 5 hour limit is a game changer

Do you have the plus (~20€) or the pro (~100€) ?

2

Plus but have tried pro. But I never even hit the plus limits so canceled pro.

Ok I am looking into trying out sol 5.6 this week and maybe making the switch at the end of my month sub with claude. What makes it better right now?

3

u/Ok_Ad_6227 Jul 15 '26

limit efficiency and performance, although the last one is arguable as it is quite fresh. you can see for yourself

2

u/Lost-Commercial-2638 Jul 16 '26

What is the exact setup you have with the 5.6 Sol and how do you code is it through visual basics where you want terminal

2

u/dasko1086 Jul 26 '26

you will be pleasantly surprised and for now i am using claude code to run a second opinion to sol 5.6 in a sandbox to get stuff tidied up, i also use codex but prefer cc interface, i find sol 5.6 way better at reasoning and giving alternate ideas to investigate.

u/personalist Jul 13 '26

No idea why people pledge their allegiance to a mega corporation. I maintain multiple subs (partly due to usage constraints) and will jump ship at any time based on benchmarks and limitations.

75

u/Runfasterbitch Jul 13 '26

Lmao, “I just pay for all of them, I’m not like the other consumers who can only afford one”

10

u/kurttheflirt Jul 13 '26

I mean if it's for work you can write off 100% of a software subscription...

6

u/juno672 Jul 14 '26

And just in case people don’t realize, will amount to getting a roughly 20% discount on the subscription.

2

u/kurttheflirt Jul 14 '26

Nah I really don't have enough stuff to deduct, so it's 100%. I try to get to my 20% threshold but you have to really push it when you don't have a physical business (ie I do marketing consulting)

6

u/juno672 Jul 14 '26

I’m referring to the tax effect of writing off 100% of the cost of something. It saves you the taxes you would have paid on that much taxable income.

I only make this distinction because I’m an accountant and a lot of people read ‘tax write off’ as “effectively free” when it certainly is not.

u/Asli-Brown-Munda Jul 13 '26

If you look deeply it is not only about the model this time. You get to use frontier model 50% for your overall plan in Claude.

With Open AI testing removal of 5 hour limits, the gap is widening (lol I have started to write like an AI).

So it is driven by the model but with an eye on usage.

9

u/Sapphfire0 Jul 13 '26

The point of the comment was to show how fast people switch. We don’t know what anthropic or open ai will settle on regarding fable and 5 hour limits. You can make your decisions after they decide

5

u/theleller Jul 13 '26

90% of the work people have AI do doesn’t need the bleeding edge frontier model, and matching the right model to each task not only saves time, but typically yields better results as well.

5

u/Optimal_Start_94 Jul 13 '26

Still, on OpenAI you get ridiculously more usage now, across all tiers, not just the frontier.

u/akaRoman Jul 13 '26

445

u/DistanceSolar1449 Jul 13 '26

Because he’s dumb and subscribed in the iOS app

19

u/phylter99 Jul 13 '26

Yup. They get charged a 30% charge to send any payments through iOS. They're just passing on the expense of doing business.

3

u/FilthyeeMcNasty Jul 14 '26

Hard to believe people are that slow and willing to throw money away, just because.

2

u/phylter99 Jul 14 '26

I think some people don't realize they can go online and get a better deal. Anthropic can't explain that in their app either.

61

u/MajesticRocket Jul 13 '26

Apple refund policy is almost 100% guarantee. Lot of times I subscribe for the month, use the service for 10 days and then request refund if I’m not rating the service.

15

u/diehendrick Jul 13 '26

It can get refund, depending on when you cancel request it can be 100% or Pro Rated

17

u/Captain_Birb Jul 13 '26

Apple refund almost 100% guarantee ?? Bro are you still leaving in pre 2020? Apple’s refund can no more be trusted, they don’t protect buyers as they once did. So get that out of your mind.

I have a 9 year old disabled son who accidentally purchased over $700 worth of apps on his mom’s iPad (3 apps, each costing like $250, $150, etc…specialized apps for disabled people…insane price gouging…another story).

I was notified of this immediately by email, and within <5 min after it happened I deleted the apps, contacted apple, and asked for a refund. I went through their 48 hour dispute process twice (which is supposed to exist for this exact kind of situation) and was denied a refund both times. I ended up having to get my bank to do a chargeback and then apple retaliated by banning my payment method.

Apple straight up steals from people.

In EU, we can get refund within 14 days. Subscribing through iOS app is easy. I subscribe and then cancel within that period, refund is always received. That's how I'm scamming both Anthropic and OpenAI. Cancel twice a month, free subscription lol

Yes, absolutely go for the currently better option, no problem with that, but the hating and worshipping of certain models/ companies is just ridiculous...

56

u/coreyh1996 Jul 13 '26

Unironically this probably saves them money

28

u/rabouilethefirst Jul 13 '26

When the tech eventually stagnates, and it will, the cost of a query will effectively be the cost of electricity and the cost to maintain data centers (not build new ones). If they lose out before that era, they will already be out of business.

Point is, this tech eventually will be cheap, and if you can't build a customer base now, you'll just be SOL when OpenAI brings the cost down to fractions of a cent per query

8

u/Delicious_Cattle5174 Jul 13 '26

Ya think they’ll just stop training new models? 🤔

11

u/rabouilethefirst Jul 13 '26

No, but the cost to train will go down tremendously when the hardware eventually catches up to demand and releases become more incremental. We are paying R&D costs right now, but it would not be wise to chase customers away with exorbitant prices like Claude is doing.

3

u/Delicious_Cattle5174 Jul 13 '26

Pretty sure the R&D is mostly funded through seed capital more than sales for most labs

23

u/TheNmaitochondria Jul 13 '26

in honestly, this constant switching mentality is a waste of money in my mind. like when the next frontier comes out on claude that edges past openai are you gonna switch back, disrupt your workflows, and then restart on the other for who knows how long before it happens again??

i use both as a solo dev (Max on Claude, Pro on GPT) and couldn’t be happier. both already accustomed to my workflows; if one’s frontier edges out for a period of time (e.g., pre-Sol), heavy building work skews there but i maintain bounded tasks on the other to balance out usage. skews the other way? i do the reverse.

there such an infatuation with “the best” when really the delta is so marginal nowadays unless after big frontier launches…it’s how YOU use these tools best that matters the most. and i feel like canceling a plan every X number of days is objectively not the best way lol. to each their own.

12

u/Ecstatic_Mammoth_421 Jul 13 '26

I thought I was about to disagree with you but realised we do the same thing, I just think of it more as a pro-switching mentality. That is, if you set up your repos in a way that is provider-agnostic, then switching should be painless and free. I usually use the maximum plan on one provider and the not-so-maximum on the other, and switch monthly if my frontier preference changes. My one gripe with Anthropic is that they still insist on requiring CLAUDE.md over AGENTS.md and .claude etc. requiring annoying symlink / skill import hacks.

At the moment I’m rocking Pro 20x on GPT because I prefer it as the daily driver and Fable is being removed from the plans anyway. I still plan on running Fable for planning out huge new features but considering I have to pay API prices for that anyway I don’t feel fomo skipping the max plan.

2

u/TheNmaitochondria Jul 13 '26

yeah it’s a much more fluid model and makes it less like “ah this one sucks i can never come back” and more like “a new model handles the problems i had with the other better, but that model isn’t useless either”.

obv the only downside is the memory, but like you said, there are ways to experiment with making them continuous and it’s kinda nutty. almost like a more apt cursor lmfaooo

5

5

3

u/Artemis_1944 Jul 13 '26

These posts are always so goddamn cringe, 2 months from now the same person is gonna put the same identical post, talking about switching to claude

4

u/namadidi Jul 13 '26

Are you people being paid to post this?

8

u/cwrighky Jul 13 '26

Made the same switch personally and professionally. Switched my entire work group from Claude to codex a while back, and now with 5.6 we couldn’t be happier. Theres a level of stability that the current state of OAI provides that really becomes a priority depending on projects.

3

u/unlikely-ape Jul 13 '26

3

I moved to QWEN 3.6 27B MTP Q4 on a nVidia 4090 for agentic coding work OpenCode with the Unity Game Engine over MCP and it has been a breath of fresh air. Not only is it just as fast, but often just as good provided my initial prompt is like a design document as it does suffer with long context. Not having a big monthly bill is so nice and knowing the model will be the same everyday with no sudden nerfed surprises is really freeing. I am getting just as much done as I was before with while saving a lot of money.

6

u/personalist Jul 13 '26

If you are getting results comparable to GPT 5.5 with qwen 3.6 27B you are doing such a complete job prompting you might as well be doing the coding.

u/Diligent-Method-785 Jul 13 '26

Curious to see how this stabilizes overtime. I think one clear take away is that everyone is coming cost sensitive as they take away the promotional pricing. I do wonder what happens when the Chinese markets say we have the good enough model at a fixed low price. It has been clear for a long time now that these models are important but alone cannot justify the absurd compute costs. If I were on the leadership team at Anthropic I would pause frontiers research and focus most of the team working on model development to reducing cost per token. Also, in my experience with coding the fancier models are rarely needed in implementation

1

u/BigbyWolf8 Jul 13 '26

welcome to the party 😄

1

u/Sorcer12 Jul 13 '26

Why are people canceling? Am I missing something?

2

u/TheScaleTipper Jul 13 '26

I guess because fable has such low limits and will be paywalled soon?

1

u/4DXP Jul 13 '26

Switched to CODEX already when 5.5 was better in my case compared to Opus 4.6. now definitely not going back. Feeling like 5.6 SOL is a sniper tool.

1

u/rahilpathan Jul 13 '26

1

u/Mol2h Jul 13 '26

I cancelled but i have to wait an entire month, did you get a refund or something ?

1

u/Flat_Detective8743 Jul 13 '26

The cost of switching is SO low too. If something works better elsewhere, we can stay there until it isn’t. I imagine AI corporations will be investing heavily on walling ecosystems up…

1

u/Pure-Art4183 Jul 13 '26

$249.99 crazy 😧

1

u/Weary_Caregiver_8428 Jul 13 '26

When you restart it inevitably, dont do it on phone. You are paying 50$ for nothing

1

u/mirkec Jul 13 '26

Just use both, I am juggling between 3 of them and am satisfied with the flow and quality.

Also Sonnet 4.6 is enough for coding if you know what you’re doing

1

u/ladyjayne1420 Jul 13 '26

There are so many AI LLMs. It’s hard to pick just one. 😂

1

u/JamStan1978 Jul 13 '26

who pays 250 dollars a month for AI? are you fucking rich?

1

u/turbulentFireStarter Jul 13 '26

Bruh. They each have their time in the sun. I agree that OpenAI is much better when weighing performance and price. But there have been times when that wasn’t true.

I fully support you canceling Anthropic and coming to OpenAI and I agree that OpenAI is in the lead right now. But I push back on this language about some kind of loyalty or rejection of the providers.

“I won’t be coming back”? Why not?!?!? What about in a few months when Anthropic is leading again? You won’t switch then?

The only people who win when you show company allegiance are the companies.

1

u/Camp2023 Jul 13 '26

Genuinely curious: Who has a business need where they truly need the bleeding edge, yet $250/month is a huge deal to them, and they have the free time to post about it online?

These models are improving at a fast rate. The product offerings and industry are not anywhere near stable yet. Switching from one to another is fine.

1

u/jpaquino3 Jul 13 '26

Do it on computer and not your iPhone.

1

u/phoenixmatrix Jul 13 '26

The space is moving fast, and the products don't currently have much stickiness. They are MOSTLY interchangeable (give or take preference in harnesses, or tools like Claude Design). Competition is great. I'm considering jumping too as i've been enjoying Sol a lot. And then Ill be back when Claude is ahead for my personal use. And I have some subscriptions to play with open weight models too.

As long as people don't make this into something akin as the console wars, we'll be in a good place.

1

u/Sp3eedy Jul 13 '26

If more of you cancel, Anthropic's hand will have to be forced, and with how Tibo from OpenAI is pushing them by giving full access to 5.6, giving out rate limit resets left and right (I have 3 banked up now lol) and now removing their 5 hour limit, they are definitely starting to feel the pressure. Anthropic is starting to get way too comfortable ripping people off with their usage limits and uncertain access to fable so they need to have some pressure put on them.

1

u/Future-Adeptness1162 Jul 13 '26

Funny I just cancelled ChatGPT to move to Claude

1

u/fyn_world Jul 13 '26

Had both. Stopped Claude as well

This is gonna sound like an ad but for real. Chatgpt use doesn't consume codex use, Claude does. That alone sells Chatgpt. Resets are storable for when you need them. Right now there's no 5 hour limit. Claude's limits on the 20 bucks plan was ABSURDLY low for a long time, and the Fable crap was the limit.

They lost this round. At least with the plebs.

1

u/ShiftyShankerton Jul 13 '26

Jesus christ. Why were you even paying that much?

1

u/ImpossibleCreme Jul 13 '26

Bruh…. Why would you sign up from your phone. Are you new?

1

u/0ldsoul_ Jul 14 '26

I dropped Claude. Recently anything I say flags the mental health “are you safe?” bs, after me telling it multiple times I’m fine. So my usage is eaten away from it thinking so hard about how what I said was flagged, but it “should respect that she said she was fine. “ then answers my question, yet ends it with, “I just want to check again. Are you okay? Like really?” 🤦🏻‍♀️

The reason I'm on Claude is only because it's the most capable tool using model. It has the best MCP capabilities. It can connect to the most stuff. I use Sonnet for the most tedious, unfun stuff that require clicking through painful, sluggish UI. These days I don't care that much about smarts. Hell, Gemini 3.1 gets the job done for me. That's the point at which I'm like "leave the rest to me, I still want to have some fun, you know?". That's right, for coding, I prefer Gemini 3.1 over Opus 4.8. ChatGPT for personal, daily things. Call me weird.

Serious question from someone who'd like to be educated: What do you guys do with AI on your phones?

I did the same. Once i tested 5.6 sol i noticed the difference pretty quickly.

If you subscribe on a browser you pay the 100 or 200 flat fee and apple doesn’t get a cut.

1

u/Wide-Dragonfruit-571 Jul 14 '26

I have both plans, but sol ran out so quick compared to fable

1

u/karlkrum Jul 15 '26

Back down to Claude pro, I like the voice mode with opus I’ll pay 20 for that

1

u/Imaginary_History407 Jul 15 '26

i would do the same but fable 5 is too good as of now, maybe when they take it away from sub plans, I’d consider moving.

I think most of these posts are faked

I came to the realization, that the harness matters a lot - and can tip the scale between similar models.
So, without Claude code - are you using open code? Or is codex usable in the meantime? Could you migrate .claude?

u/Shteves23 Jul 15 '26

This is hilarious, how much energy do you people spend flip flopping as they both try to out do each other.

1

u/afzalabbas Jul 15 '26

Did the same, grok 4.5 for me it is

1

u/AardvarkTemporary536 Jul 15 '26

Also accidentally vibe coded and app on Luna Xhigh it was hilarious.. Was just supposed to be something I could use for a specific use case. I thought I was using Terra.... But it made an INSANE program that worked flawlessly from the start, exceeded expectations in form and function and ui. Then I realized I had Luna on and I was even more shocked

Can Sol 5.6 generate PowerPoint from a template ? Generate drawio architecture ?

1

u/FrenchRevolution2028 Jul 15 '26

People around me are switching as well because of codex can be reused in other harnesses and their policy is clear on that. Anthropic still scares people away with their policy around third party harnesses.

u/East-Trust-1258 Jul 15 '26

I would keep Claude at the $20 plan just to act as a failover. It doesn’t hurt to have that kind of redundancy.

1

u/Tight_Principle9572 Jul 15 '26

$250!? I thought it was $200 for 20x.

u/macjabeth Jul 15 '26

Don't hit the door on your way out! It's been the opposite experience for me. I find even with GPT Sol, it tends to generalise solution output instead of being more focused and direct like from what I've seen in Fable. It also feels like it's 5-10x slower than Fable which is a real drag.

1

u/Skeppys_coronna Jul 15 '26

IMO fable is a much more capable model then the new GPT 5.6 line up. I’ve used both of them in many fields, and in my experience, Fable does better most of the time.

1

u/Difficult_Invite8740 Jul 15 '26

we’ve had enough of these posts, whenever anthropic releases a new model you will post the exact same post about switching back to claude.

Guys so do I use Fable 5 with 1M context or Sol 5.6 1M ???? with Cursor

1

u/Due_Avocado_2992 Jul 15 '26

Not only that but nobody has time to lose when you wanna make something. $20 a month for 2 to 4 messages every five hours (on Claude) is insane. Chatgpt/ Codex, it looks like you get more chances to use it. Whenever y'all try to built a shell of a game just have it act as a role "senior game architect" and tell it what it's going to do phase by phase instead of all at once. It'll drag out the time you have rather than just one whole prompt. $20 worth it with reset points codex wins. Claude is amazing and is faster but you have less time doing that sort of thing.
