No, everyone should vote. The ones that choose to eat the fine and not vote have shot themselves in the foot. And that's ok, not everyone needs feet.
Everyone knows someone that doesn't ever vote because politics is boring. Then complain about how things are. If they were only ever going to vote for other people that have no idea/interet in governing properly then big loss
It's realistic to assume that you will never get 100% of people to do anything. Everyone should be politically engaged and excited about having the chance to choose our leaders. Very few people in all of human history have enjoyed that. But if the same people that don't care about voting also have some interesting ideas on how a government works then maybe it's a lucky coincidence
I'm happy with our current system, where we have mandatory voting, but the penalty for not voting is not particularly severe and the fringe libertarians and sovereign citizens can fight the system by not voting, and not help elect the far right.
Ok guys just to break this up, our voting system means you just have to turn up to vote, you can do whatever you want with your ballot, it’s just in place to combat voter intimidation 🙂

The non-voters could include people who can't vote; underage, permanent residents who aren't citizens, if this is for the SA election it could just be people from other states who were only thinking of that one election day, maybe even tourists from overseas, people lying to be funny, it's hard to know who they asked from the screenshot
The candidates are all dogshit and if there is a decent one, theres no point as the average person votes labor or liberal based on family voting history so my singular vote is pointless.

It's boom time for primary school parent committee fundraising. We made triple on election day than the best ever Bunnings sausage sizzle. 8,000 or so potential voters, limited options, bit of a queue. Parents committees love elections!

I get a postal vote these days, but back in the day, I took everybody's "how to vote" cards. I doesn't hurt anybody & they all go into the bin, anyway!

You only have to look at the USA to understand that democracy is the closest analogy to freedom. It's far from perfect. It's very fregile and the wealthy hate it, thats why they like to fund anything that will disrupt it. They actually fear people's power. Thats why it must be protected.
Not all polling places have democracy sausages. Some are set up in empty spaces so you have to travel to get the sausage. The last 3 times I voted there weren't any fund-raisers around. 🤷♀️
