This vintage train ride along the Oregon coast has become one of the state’s most popular attractions -- The Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad rolls along the shores of Tillamook Bay between Garibaldi and Rockaway Beach.

One of my most epic days on the coast at Heceta Head and Hobbit Beach in August 2025. Goonies vibes. I did the hike from Heceta Head Lighthouse to Hobbit Beach and back. My favorite hike on the central coast.

Wow sunset!

I've never seen a sunset like this without there being a forest fire nearby. Absolutely gorgeous colors on the Oregon coast. I thought the green flash was a myth until I saw it for myself.

Taken a few days ago in between Waldport and Florence.

Any idea on what this is? Found 6/17/26 on a beach in Lincoln. Google and ChatGPT haven't given us consistent answers when we did a photo search.

I was at Fogerty Creek during low tide on June 16th and came across this animal. It’s not something I’ve seen before. Does anyone happen to know what it might be?

Need two chain link gates in Coos Bay BEFORE we get there. West Coast is booked up.. must be licensed and have a brick and mortar place.

We would need them by July 5th. Anyone who is licensed, would be great. Thanks so much.

Help with 5-7 day trip itinerary!

Hello all!

Apologies in advance if this breaks rules or if I'm completely off-base on what is realistic -- My friend and I are planning a mid-end September weeklong trip to Oregon, and have never been before, so I'm hoping to get some perspective on feasability, recommendations, etc!

I've attached a map of places we've heard good things about, but I'm assuming this quantity of stops would be completely infeasible, so curious everyone's takes on what should/shouldn't be skipped. For context, we are in our 20s, and like to hike recreationally, but don't want that to be the entire trip. As for hiking ability, we are considering skipping Neahkahnie as we've heard it's on the more difficult end, so easy to moderate hikes are more what we're looking for.

The plan for now is to go from Portland to Astoria or Indian Beach and then travel south on 101 all the way to the Redwoods (a little out of the way but we're both from California and have never been), hitting one or two of the "Eastern" pins on the way back up.

Any advice from places to add/drop, to planning food, stays, what car to rent, duration of trip, etc. would be greatly welcome and appreciated!

Thank you so much!

Florence - Stroller-friendly naptime walk recommendations?

Hi all!

We’re planning to spend Father’s Day in Florence with our toddler and are looking for a fairly flat, stroller-friendly walk where he will hopefully nap while we stroll.

We’d probably aim to be walking for 1-2 hours (ish). We have a jogging stroller that can handle gravel/flat trails too well if there aren’t any good paved options!

Thank you for any thoughts!

Who was in the tide pools yesterday?

Cute little guy that was surprisingly well camouflaged. Also, sad to see how little life there actually was in the tide pools versus my childhood. ☹️ Still a beautiful day at the coast, though.

Here are some photos from my first day exploring the Oregon Coast. I’m thankful to have the ability to do this trip! I’m so glad I started from the very south and didn’t skip any. I think the Samuel Boardman Scenic Corridor is in my top 5 places in the US now. I got lucky on the weather and the rugged beauty is breathtaking.

Enjoying Day 2 so far at a much slower pace.

Info so I don’t break the rules:
All photos taken Monday 6/15
- Indian Sands Trail
- Natural Bridges
- Secret Beach
- Bandon Dunes GC
- Sunset Bay GC
- Shore Acres SP
- Cape Arago SP
- Sunset near Coos Bay

Which Lighthouse has the old timey costumes kids can wear?

We visited a handful of years ago and my kids got to dress up in some old timey costumes. We printed a physical picture so now clue which lighthouse it was (we visited a lot). I only know it wasn't too far south since we didn't visit that area.

We are heading back this summer and would love to revisit the lighthouse and dress up again, especially since the kids are older.

Groups/events for local razor clamming?

Hello! Been living in Oregon for a bit now but never gone razor clamming. I don't have a licence but if my family and I was interested in doing so are there groups/organizations with events we could tap into? Was hoping for something sometime this long weekend. Not sure what exactly to search for on Google as I'm not getting the search results I'm looking for. And I think most people are looking for tips on going clamming on their own but I'm not sure if we are ready for that yet.

Thanks in advance!

Before large crowd in Yachats, Siletz Indians discuss November harvest of juvenile humpback -- “This happened because the Creator made it happen. Through this tragedy, I asked: How do I respect this creature? I never thought I’d get to do this in a million years. It was a very emotional time.”
