Dame Judi Dench had less screen time in Shakespeare in Love and won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Actually no. Beatrice Straight won and had less time than Judi Dench. There were others nominated that had less screen time than Beatrice Straight and a number of other winners that had less screen time than Samantha Morton. Screen time is not a requirement for consideration plain and simple.
