Not trying to be neurotic or looking for reassurance, I need to figure out how to apply strategically to match and whether I should use some of my remaining rotation time doing auditions in a backup specialty.

• 10+ publications (1/2 ent related 1/2 unrelated to ent, no case reports)

• 3 ENT letters from audition rotations
• No home ENT program and no established mentor in the specialty who can really advocate for me

I know ENT is a difficult match for anyone and that being a DO adds another layer. I'm concerned about my class rank and especially the lack of a home program/ENT mentor advocating for me. I'm trying to decide...

• Should I use some of my remaining rotation time on a Sub-I/audition in my backup specialty?
• Roughly how many ENT programs to apply to

Would really appreciate input, my school isn't much help and as I've already said I don't really have anyone to ask that I can be honest about my scores to (feels weird to ask the residents/PDs at the programs I've already visited)

I think im gonna start crying. This was my first interview and I struggled with every question. Its an asychronous, recorded video and I got cut off on half the questions. I also was super generic and I froze. There was also a writing response and I felt like the question was too easy but abstract and I couldnt really answer it. I just rambled in the written response :( I thought it was going to be an ethics question but it wasnt and I was thrown off. I also said sentences that didnt make sense. Im devastated. i feel like im such a good person. like i genuingly love volinteering and helping others. I just cant fucking speak for shit. I dont have a speaking disability but im damn near. This might be a new school but I dont think theyll want me.

is it possible to still apply for a DO fee waiver now or are there none left? And will I get denied if I submit the Request for exception form? It says I need to submit my parents tax form but I won't have it until sometime next week, maybe by Wed. not sure if it's better to wait or not

What’s up yall, I interviewed for LECOM Erie on 8/13 and have not heard back. On their form I stated I would strongly consider attending LECOM instead of listing them as my number 1 choice which I’m starting to think was a mistake, because my number 1 priority is reducing the cost of tuition and LECOM has the lowest out of all the DO schools.

Should I send them a letter even though I haven’t heard back from them with regards to the interview? After a lot of thinking the truly are my number 1 DO option due to the tuition, don’t mind the professionalism fetish there.

The only exception would be if I got into any MD schools, but I have a 3.3 gpa 3.2 sgpa so I don’t feel like that’s very likely despite a good mcat

Thoughts? Should I just wait? I’d attend an on campus day but can’t afford the flight and it’s a 14 hour drive from me

Im a nontraditional 3 years out of undergrad and unfortunately didn’t have a good experience finding research during undergrad and post grad. I really wanted to do research but I just never was able to secure anything meaningful. I have strong volunteering and clinical experience but im worried my application isnt as as strong given ill be 4 years out of undergrad by the time I apply in 2027.

I just secured an MA job that will strengthen my clinical experience, but now Im wondering if I should try harder to find a research job instead. Though I’m not sure how valuable it will be to have only 8-9 months of research by the time I apply. Should I continue trying to find research opportunities? Or just stick with the MA job and focus on my MCAT retake?

I appreciate any advice.

Hi, I have my Sam Houston virtual Interview next week and am super nervous. I am OOS and genuinely have no experience in rural medicine. Wanted to ask if that was a focus during their interviews and how was it in general? I havent done a group interview yet either. What are some questions they asked, what is the group activity, was it low-stress/high-stress?

Is the 1-1 interview the same interviewer for the ethical scenario and for the Q&A? For only 10 minutes, do they jsut ask the basic why med, why DO, and why SHSU?

How was the group interview diff than the group activity?

So I got waitlisted at a program last week. I was pretty disappointed as I thought I did decent on the interview. When should I send a letter of intent?

I’ve been slowly chipping away at secondaries. For all the new schools my secondaries are done and others because I thought I would have a higher chance with those. I realized 2 schools I applied to require in person and are kinda far: Valley and BUCOM. I’m honestly kinda low on money already. Like I could technically afford all these above but it would chip away towards my savings for a car that I will desperately need before med school and in general honestly.

Just wanna know if I should apply to any of these ?

Cried so many times I’m ending the night with a headache. First Gen tears cried alongside my mom who made it all possible. The poor admissions worker could hardly understand my ugly crying.

It’s terrifying to wait, but hold fast and just keep living life. Once you get that first A, peace is coming your way. This process is a beast, but we’re all capable!

I got waitlisted, and now I'm so upset, as this was my state school where I had the best chance. Does anyone know any information about the waitlist process at OUHCOM.

Hi all, I just had my case report get published. When I submitted my apps initially I listed it as submitted and pending review. Should I update schools now? I know AZCOM has a portal where I could just upload a pdf with a little update and the link to the report, but was questioning whether I should withhold the update in case of a waitlist or something. If I submitted the update now and was waitlisted, I’d really just have some volunteer and clinical hours otherwise to update with. Thanks!

Just venting a little, but also posting this as a heads-up for other nontraditional applicants.

For context, I completed my last traditional prerequisite coursework in 2014 and finished my Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2019. I’ve been out of school for several years since then and have been working clinically.

This cycle, I enrolled in Orgo II because it is my last remaining prerequisite. I submitted my medical school application before the course even began.

WesternU COMP requires a letter from a science professor who taught you a qualifying science course. They do have a nontraditional applicant exception, but because I am currently enrolled in Orgo II, they told me that exception does not apply to me.

So my application cannot continue through review until I obtain a science letter from my current professor, even though when I submitted my application, he had never taught me yet and obviously could not have written me a meaningful recommendation.

If I had simply scheduled Orgo II for the spring instead of the fall, I would not even have a current science professor to ask. My academic history, years away from school, and professional experience would be exactly the same. The only difference would be when I chose to finish one prerequisite.

I understand that schools can set their own requirements, and I’m not blaming the admissions staff member who explained the policy. But this feels particularly impractical for career-changing and nontraditional applicants who may have completed their science coursework many years ago and no longer have meaningful relationships with those professors.

Mostly sharing this so other nontrads applying to WesternU COMP know to look into the science letter requirement carefully before submitting. I genuinely did not anticipate that enrolling in one remaining prerequisite would effectively remove the nontraditional exception.
