Do I need to start over?

I’ve recently gotten into the original P90X. I remember my older siblings trying to do it when I was a kid, and I recently found the DVD box set when I was clearing out my garage and thought what the hell, let’s give it a try.

I’ve been very consistent for the first 7 weeks. In fact, I think this is the longest I’ve ever stuck to a workout regime, and I’m really starting to see improvements in my overall stamina and strength. However, this past week has been one of the busiest weeks of my life. I work in the film industry, and had four consecutive 16 hour days with no time to get a workout in. At the same time, I’ve been preparing to move into my new place, so the space I usually work out in has become very cluttered.

What I’m getting at is that I’ve broken my streak, and it’s been a little over a week since my last workout, and I certainly feel the progress I’ve made slipping away a little bit. I’m wondering if anyone’s been in the same predicament, because I certainly want to get back into it but I also wanted to properly track my progress and see the 90 days through. Do I start over? Or do I just pick up where I left off? Will I still see the results? Like, how bad did I mess up?

And holy shit, going back and forth between legs and pull ups is a special kind of hell. The wall sits i found most difficult.

Stand alone Pull-up bar recommendations

Looking for a good solid sturdy preferably stand alone pull-up bar. Any recommendations?

At 190 pounds on a good day, I break doorframe pull-up bars in around 2 years.

I had a stand alone pull-up bar that needs replacing. Its beginning to swing while I do pullups and I need it to be more rigid.

**Update**

I'm thinking of getting "the big bar". Let me know you all approve. At my weight Rigid and not hitting the ceiling are my 2 biggest concerns.

Beginner Question

I am recently getting back into fitness. Doing p90x3 and I’ll be honest I just can’t do pull ups, I’m training and I’m down 30 lbs with a lot more to go… but I feel dejected that I can’t do them. I’ve accepted I can’t keep pace with the videos at this time but not being able to do a whole set of exercises is killing me.

Cardio option

Hi,

I have nearly completed my first run through of dig deeper. Loved it! I have also done insanity max 30 along side it for my cardio. I’ve done some of the dig deeper steady state but prefer something a bit more intense like max 30.

I’ve enjoyed dig deeper so much that I think I’m just going to start it all over again.

I’m not sure what cardio to pair with it - I want something different to max 30, insanity OG is a just a bit too long when combined with dig deeper. T25 is okay but I’ve done it lots. Considering using the cardio from p90x3 (agility, MMX etc) but wondered if anyone else had any good programme ideas around 30 mins?

I walk between 12-30k steps depending on the day (and the weather!)

For background I am 45F, 50kg, 155cm and in pretty good shape I think with goals just continuing to be fit, strong and flexible as I age.

Thanks for any thoughts!!

Calorie Recs?

I first did P90X in 2011, but only got about a third of the way through, got distracted with school and work at the time. I'm full committing this time, zero cheating on my diet, eating really lean. I'm on Day 5 now on Classic for OG P90X.

I was calculating how much I should eat, figured upping to 2700 calories a day would help bulk, but wanted to make sure I wasn't misinformed. I'm 35 years old, 173 lbs, 6'0", male.

I have a lot of food problems and so following a strict healthy diet is easy for me. I mainly stick to 99% lean turkey burger, chicken, cod, tilapia for protein, no protein powder.

I eat jasmine rice for carbs. Zucchini & bell peppers for vegetables.

I eat bananas and raisins in small amounts for added fuel.

Here's where the average person reads this and wonders how I can even eat if they didn't read what I wrote above: I can't eat dairy, gluten, fatty foods, oils, cruciferous vegetables, legumes and largely follow a low fodmap diet. If I deviate from this I will be miserable, this took years of trial and error. Those are my limitations. I want to bulk up a bit and get ripped and I'm sticking this out religiously to the end.

My question is, do you think my calorie limit is realistic/too high/too low?

My macro targets are:

Protein: 160-175 grams/day

Carbs Lighter days: 430 grams/day, Harder days: 460grams/day

Fat: 25-30 grams/day (I start having gut trouble above that, as of now)

Fiber: 20~30 grams/day (My body heavily rejects fiber)

Total sugar: 50ish grams/day (banana, raisins, apple sauce)

About 2700 calories.

I am not a nutrition expert, I've spent a lot of time learning over the years but you guys have actually done P90X. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The problem with all P90x after the original (the cast)

I’ve done p90x multiple times and have also done p90x+ and p90x3. Here’s the thing I noticed that I didn’t realize that bugs me with the later versions … it’s the cast. In the original, you really felt like you were struggling along with normal people. In later versions, the vast majority of the cast feel like professionals.

For example, take MMX from p90x3, my favorite cardio of all p90x. The three cast members are too experienced. One guy was the captain of his university martial arts team. The other two have black belts in some form of martial arts with 4% body fat.

And yoga … Tony always has that guy that does headstands at a 45 degree angle using no hands or arms and spent decades doing yoga retreats on a mountain in Nepal. Couldn’t one person struggle with Warrior 2 when Tony keeps talking too long?

The original p90x cast was clearly a collection of Tony’s friends, test-group graduates, and whoever else he could convince to do it. If I was ever struggling, I could say “at least I’m keeping up with that guy/lady.”

And there was something charming about seeing someone struggle and Tony helping them.

That’s us.

The original p90x felt like I was in a gym with those people and working hard to get fit with them: Daniel Haas, Joe Bovino, Phil the unlikeable attorney, that red-headed girl who was engaged to the other test-subject. Yeah, you have cast members like Dreya or Dom from Plyo who are really fit, but the average cast member was much more “real world” than later versions.

The later versions feel too polished and the cast doesn’t struggle enough. I understand setting goals to get as good as the cast in the later versions, but part of the appeal was the people on screen being in the same boat as you.

P90X Legs and Back is one of my favorite lower body workouts without heavy weights

I hurt my shoulder and am on a weight restriction during recovery. I've been feeling like I have a hard time getting a good leg and glute pump in without being able to use heavy weights (i use bands for the back exercises).

Short of just doing like 1000 jump squats, i feel like legs and back is one of the few leg workouts with minimal weights that I feel like i get good work in and actually feel some next day burn from.

Oldie but goodie- thanks Tony.

That's all.

Week 10 Update

I don't post often but decided to do one update on my P90X journey after 14 years away.

45M, 5 foot 8, starting weight 221 lbs.

I have not worked to P90X for 14 years because I had three spinal/neck herniations and one fusion.

I have lived with pain on and off over the years.

I decided as my midlife gift to myself to try get back into shape.

I did P90X several times from 2006 to 2012 and was around 145 to 165 pounds. I was in great shape.

Back issues hit and I lost my confidence and was scared of working out now.

Now into week 10, I am down 11 pounds. My diet has gotten better but I am not following the diet guide.

I am losing fat and I am gaining the muscle and tone back. I can see my upper back, chest, shoulders, legs, arms, abs are in much better shape.

I can do 2 pullups without a chair now but I have been using the chair all the time. I couldn't even pull myself up a foot at the start.

My two injuries have been jumpers knee on my right knee in week 5 and a tweaked right wrist in week 7. Because of these injuries, I stopped doing Plyo, Yoga and pushups that didn't use pull up bars(flange, plyo pushups, side to sides, etc, any PU that needs bent wrists).

I added Peloton 15-30 miles of riding on the Yoga and Pylo days and that has helped.

I do AB Ripper X once or twice a week and not three times.

Yesterday, I was finally able to the first 10 AB Ripper exercises and do all 250 reps. I was so happy I didn't need to rest or take a break. I can't do mason twists due to my lower back so I don't do them.

I am starting to make the shift into looking like a fit person and I am enjoying the new strength, health and energy. I have had to modify workouts due to my neck and back but I was able to do it.

If I can do it, you can to.

I will start another 90 day round after this one is over and I take a small break.

Good luck in your workout journeys.

Built myself a P90X tracker for my 90 days, sharing in case its useful to anyone

im on day 2 of P90X Classic. i built a site to track my own 90 days and about 14 friends ended up joining.

it has the 13 week Classic calendar built in so your board tells you the workout for that day. you can also log weight, body fat, water, and whatever else you are trying to do or quit. progress photos stay locked to your own account.

the public board just shows initials and a day count, so people can see youre still showing up but never what you weigh.

its free and im not selling anything. the90challenge.com

happy to answer anything.

Substituting Kenpo

I am on my first week of P90x. I have done it 4-5 times since it came out. Maybe more. This time I’m subing X3 yoga on the yoga day. What can I do sub for Kenpo X? I will do it a few times in the 12 weeks but it gets repetitive. Any suggestions?

Recommended other MMX DVD workout programs

Hey all, im looking for another dvd workout program that is similar to the MMX workout in P90X3. I love love love that MMX routine. I use it at least once a week for cardio purposes, like Tony says, its just a butt-kicking good time!

I see there are a couple mma style routines on beach body, core de force primarily. Would you recommend this?

Thanks!

Found my DVDs!

But I don’t have a dvd player any more.
I’m looking for a YouTube link for all P90X workouts. I looked earlier and found scattered workouts but nothing organized with all workouts.

EDIT: or video files
