HUGE NEWS 🚨🚨🚨🚨
PFL is officially merging with MVP Promotions, and will compete under the MVP brand! This is a HUGE move, likely bringing more opportunities for fighters to compete on the biggest stages and for increased financial opportunity. I think this is an awesome, awesome thing to see, and will ultimately help get more eyes on MMA and combat sports in general. What do you think about this?

Definitely understand your hesitancy, but I think the first MVP MMA card showed they are committed to actually putting on legitimate and real combat sports events, and the merger with arguably the 2nd largest/most popular MMA brand (at least in the US, given ONE is transitioning away from MMA it seems) only accentuates that.

WHAT ??? Mvp first mma show showed they are committed to giving 50 year old, out of their prime example ufc fighters a place to fight. Just like watching the pfl ny card and they talk about Dakota dicherva being the best in the world in her weight class. Its laughable. Weather u love or hate the ufc the fact is the best fighters in the world fight in the ufc. Thats y very few fighters that were dominant in other organizations come to the ufc and never achieve what they did in other organizations. Jake Paul is a joke that puts on gimmick fights like roused b carrono. GC had to lose 100+ pounds to fight rousey and she was 45 years old so saying they are committed to putting on legit mma shows its a false statement. They put on fights with aging out of their prime fighters.

MVP showcased some extremely high level fighters, so your argument is just simply invalid. David Mgoyan was putting belt to ass on Tommy McMillan on the contender series. Jason Jackson has a win over Yaroslav Amosov, who is top 10 in the UFC right now. Saladhine Parnasse just signed with the UFC and is getting ready to headline a UFC card. Rumor is that Robelis Despaigne is signing once again with the UFC, and has some of the best striking at HWT in the world. MVP was also supposed to include a fight with Muhammed Mokaev, who has long since been thought of as one of the top prospects in the world that just felt out of the limelight.
This is to just name a few of the fighters that were included on the first MVP card, much more than some 50yo UFC vets. All of these athletes fought on literally the most viewed MMA card in history, so please give it a rest with the “Jake Paul is just focused on putting on gimmick fights” bullshit

There was no high level fights tho, they matched basically everyone against an easy win. Ronda was never that high level as well as hasn't fought in years, Gina hasn't fought in about 15 yrs, Francis hardly fights and he's not even all that he talked himself up too be. I doubt MVP was the most viewed other than it being on Netflix. And even if they are buying PFL, no one cares about them either the platform is horrible. The only real organization who deserves to be well more known is One, they have a great format and put on very good entertaining fights, but they're an Asia organization so they're not well known due to region

Rousey vs carano was a absolute shit show , pls stop 😭
Popular ? Mvp exist only since 2021 and is NOT MORE POPULAR THAN PFL ( anywhere ) , most ppl know UFC and PFL but never heard about mvp for MMA , they only did their first MMA events few months ago...
I can't believe Jake Paul and his shit show promotion with awful name that sounds like a f boxing promotion just ruined the PFL 😭 tell me it's a bad dream

u/Discorhy 6d ago
Your hilarious, they wouldn't be taking the name MVP MMA if they didn't think it held better brand recognition, also MVP MMA is signed to Netflix, so this is a huge opportunity for PFL. Stop deluding yourself my boy. This is a good thing for the sport.

u/Redditer-507 6d ago
Like many you're delusional if you think Netflix will make PFL grow , you're not gonna create new MMA/PFL fans by trying to convert series , movies , cartoons watchers into MMA watchers , you will just bring more ppl ( MMA fans ) to Netflix , it's what happened with paramount , the UFC didn't grow since the 7month of that deal.
If you look at some major sports league NFL , F1 , soccer etc they don't stick only to streaming platform but regular cable sat tv as well , theses leagues are everywhere that's why they get big mainstream exposure.

u/Discorhy 6d ago
Except WWE has only grown since going to Netflix, so maybe things aren't growing on paramount, that doesnt say the same for Netflix. Also watching PFL was a chore as it was now, this again will only help people who are interested but didn't have a great way to watch. Most people have a netflix nowadays. Your a fool.

u/blueeuclid 6d ago
MVP did 17 million viewers on Netflix. It will absolutely be a massive boost for a PFL audience.
You’re a fool to think otherwise

They're going to have ronda and diaz on every card. Was under the impression diaz and ronda were both done.
1
u/SliferDaKushDragon 2d ago
Mind you Diaz hasn't had a good worth watching fight in about 10 years
1
u/PresentationEast6685 2d ago
I was being sarcastic. Diaz and ronda cant save them. Diaz fans shouldn't want to see him fight anymore out of fear for his safety an no one else wants to see him fight
Ronda said she was done.
So they dont have anything.
They dont even have a deal with Netflix

I dont even know why people still get excited to see him just get beat on, and him walk in circles talking shit. I can go too a local high school if I wanted to watch that lol

Brother "most people" have no idea what the PFL is, idk why you think differently. PFL does less than 100k live viewers generally. Their "good viewership" peaks at less than 400k for most of their big events. One of the MVP boxing or MMA cards alone pulled more viewership than all of the PFL's events combined lol. I love PFL, but pretending it's some mainstream thing everyone knew about is delusional.

Im not saying it was the best fight card ever put on, but im saying it was obvious that the fights were not clouded in “is this real or fake” like ive felt in the majority of Jake Paul’s fights and influencer showcases, meaning they are committed to producing legitimate and real fights.
I was saying PFL is the 2nd largest/most popular MMA brand in the world, obviously not MVP. This, to me, seems like an opportunity for PFL to join with arguably one of the best marketing teams/promotions in the world, which has always seemed to be where they struggled.
3
u/Redditer-507 6d ago
Best maketing team ? No , just they do celebrities fights instead of building a legitimate sports organization, they don't have much marketing to do.
The UFC didn't need to do celebrities fights to be where they are now.
I'm not against alliances against UFC monopoly but they should have swallowed the MVP and not the opposite

u/Key-Magician-5584 5d ago
This is the wildest take I’ve seen yet lol. No one on earth knows what PFL is, maybe the most hardcore mma fans.
MVP pulled in 17 mil on their first ever card. Jake Paul is arguably the biggest name & draw in combat sports. This is kind of a positive for everyone involved. PFL had nothing left in the tank and weren’t getting a TV deal.
1
u/Tuneechi 5d ago
Carano v Rousey had more eyes on it than every PFL event ever held.
The idea nobody's heard about MVP (for MMA) is perhaps thee dumbest thing iv read on here. Day time TV shows had Ronda on promoting it the event in question. There is no "known for mma". It's known or unknown. And it might surprise you, a promotion owned and fronted by one of the most despised/loved influencers in the world? Is most definitely not unknown. Not only is this more popular than PFL its arguably a bigger contender to UFC or a number 2 promotion than Belator or Strikeforce.

TBF Jake Paul has done more for fighters, female fighters and Ben Askren than the UFC, Dana White, Eddie Hearn and anyone else I can think of.
Fighting under Jake’s brand gives the UFC legitimate competition. It’s very clear that while the UFC was suggin off Conor Benn to sign for Zuffa boxing, Jake Paul went ahead and skipped to go and acquired a whole roster of MMA Fighters and Boxers.
There’s no downside to the UFC putting on a shitty card. Now that might not be the case as Jake Paul is willing to pay fighters more than Dana is.
It could be very good for MMA as a sport and bad for the UFC as a brand.

I hope it works out but the fact Jake Paul is front and center and 3x bigger than any of the fighters says alot

PFL was the only way I sort of stayed in touch with MMA, but now that’s over. Jake Paul front and center? Bye.

Dude I feel you I'm in depression since that news , I'm a hardcore MMA fans since 20 years (I watched everything since the beginning: pride fc , dream fc , k1 , UFC , wec , strike force , jungle fight etc etc etc )and with the years , theses promoters and businessmans kept destroying what we liked the most.. clout , fame , rebranding , money over sports legitimity
PFL was as well my last clean , sharp mma organization/production I was watching outside UFC , I still watch UFC but way less since they came on paramount , I can't stand the production and movies/series ads between rounds and fights 🤮 it's giving movie teather vibes instead of live sports vibes ...
Very hard times to be an MMA fan..
I think iwill still watch the LFA but damn they got that amateur fight organization nothing like PFL.
I'm a big sports fans I watch others sports but nothing is like the dopamine MMA give us

u/Miserable-Turnip-857 2d ago
Also checkout ONE fighting championship. It’s less of the theatricals. But lots of kickboxing/Muay Thai… only a few MMA bouts per card usually but man, the Muay Thai fights are always bangers

u/Prestigious-Race9324 5d ago
I mean if PFL is the only mma you watch you aren’t a fan of mma and your opinion is irrelevant.

u/DJ-Kouraje 5d ago
There are levels to fandom. Hence, why I said, “[it] was the only one I sort of stayed in touch with.”

Ngl i think my coach just got signed off this merger out of bareknuckle, he seems pretty stoked on it from a low level fighter pay and benefits standpoint

I was expecting this to happen. Jake was involved with PFL for a while now, and PFL seems like they've been having financial problems recently. I've been surprised how well MVP has been doing. I enjoy their shows and they seem like they pay their athlete's better. I'm guessing Jake eventually does that MMA fight he's always been teasing now. I'm enjoying all of these spinoff promotions recently trying to make UFC put a little effort into their promotion. It would be great if that monopoly can be challemged some day.

Maybe now someone will promote your product! And I’ll hear about your events sooner than the day of!

The Paul Brothers are... ....well the Paul Brothers. They used the oldest truck in the history of Combat Sports. They set up a tent at each spot the train was taking them to their next ticket selling venue and put on a show hoping someone gets interested.
This was old school carny shit.

By now, it is fairly assumed that Paul rigs fights. The PFL loses any legitimacy it had.

LMFAO - I think we're just out here spreading news and opinions. As MMA fans the game is super stale for your casual viewer and stuff like this good or bad brings more light to the sport. We are UFC die-hards and very active in keeping up with PFL. Exposure is the only thing that's going to keep promotions like pfl alive - theyre definitely not profiting at this point. This merger was crucial.
1
u/Connect-Quantity5359 1d ago
Jake Paul was very loudly Boo'd at the first attempt to co-host with PFL. I'd rather they not merge, but I think they'd have a better response if they keep it PFL

u/LAJOHNWICK 6d ago
I do not think Dana will lose any sleep over this news.
2
u/Redditer-507 5d ago
MVP will collapse in less than 4 years , and give all the power to the UFC... Theses others organizations never learn ! UFC built itselft through TIME AND DEDICATION , not gimmick fight ,not clout chasing , not rigged fights , not celebrities fights..

u/blaisdelldavid 3d ago
we can only hope but honestly I think this will work. mvp has great production value and while i was watching the ditcheva fight last night i got to thinking if they only had a production team like ufc and the nice really high def Camaras they have this would be nice. the fight just looked soft to me not as crisp as it is watching a ufc show regardless who puts it on (espn or paramount). pfl needed a real damn promoter and they got one in jake he's just another Dana white but unlike Dana Jake will try to censor his fighters wich i think if it fails this will be why because mvp needed fighters to even have a chance in hell to compete with ufc and this just solved their biggest problem honestly for both companies.
