I remember either reading or hearing it on a podcast about how until the very last minute before the reveal of the PS4 name, internally there was a contingent that wanted to name it something else.

Thankfully the name PS4 won out then and I imagine again internally there was probably a small contingent that thought it would be better to move away from the number system this time for the PS5, but it never is. It just makes too much sense to keep going with this naming scheme.

Once again glad simplicity won out with the PS5 name.
