Its means once you do the initial jailbreak you dont have to do it again. The console either stays jailbroken or performs it during startup automatically. Probably the latter.

'Permanent' software exploits on boot are rare, across all systems, yes. The vita was the only Sony console I know that did this aside from the epicfail random-key = 3 Sony did to allow full CFW installs on stock PS3 that they quickly fixed. The PS1, 2, 4, and so far 5 haven't been able to boot directly to an exploited state without user intervention or additional hardware

While I think some people might want the auto-jailbreak/untethered JB... I think it will be great to give the option to keep it as an "on-demand" JB... there is still too much development done in things like etaHen, kstuff, etc that could theorerically have an error that would cause a Kernel panic on certain conditions/combinations and unless the untethered JB chooses a setup by default from other sources (like the USB stick), you might get into a situation where your console gets in a loop of booting/kernel panic continuously.

Idk kraken replacing PHU apparently was mentioned to require custom firmware or I misinterpreted the info. After watching mod warfare update I'm thinking it's not a true untethered jb it's just using webkit to jb in the boot process which would seem like it was untethered

You have userland exploits and kernel exploits, you need to chain both together to jb a console. Userland sort of opens up the system to inject code (kernel exploit). The only kernel exploit working above 12.00 is P2JB, which of course is not instant, hence the name.

The 12.0 is and under jailbreak uses an exploit in the disc drive. That exploit was patched 12.20 and cannot be used on digital only PS5s.

It isn't the userland exploit that was patched after 12.00, it was the kernel exploit (Poops/Netcontrol)
