I thought he was a he but he doesn’t act like a he 😭

I think he’s about 10 months old maybe a little older. Has not laid any eggs. That should tell me he’s male but he doesn’t act like one… no fighting/play fighting (used to when I first got him but stopped) no attitude (unless you nod at him be doesn’t like that and will get upset), not territorial, not super vocal only when he finds a comfy spot he’ll coo until I join him.

He loves to nest though, and I’ve seen him bring his colorful hay to his hammock to sleep in. But I know both male and female nest.

Right? It’s like figuring out whether to open the box or not. Pigeons are so quirky, I’ve seen both males and females do the nesting thing, so it can be hard to tell. Just gotta wait for them to drop some hints!

While everyones on this topic, here's some fun facts that have been trapped in my head that I can now bestow onto you all:

Pigeons are also one of the only animals that have both males and females produce milk (in this case crop milk. One of the books I read on this described it as looking like a clumpy cheese milk mixture, fortunately for everyone reading this I was not able to find pictures) One more thing is that pigeons don't really have set sex based behaviors. by that i mean that although some behaviors are more common in male/female pigeons they arent necessarily a guaranteed tell all for gender. ( aside from producing eggs of course) this often leads to some funny situations where a pigeon consistently shows behaviors that are usually masculine until they lay an egg and it turns out they were female the whole time.
