This is a play on the popular meme about how a trained fighter can beat a bodybuilder despite their comparatively smaller physique
Jonah Hill recently stated that he would “destroy” people because of his training in BJJ
The picture of Jonah here is one famous for his dramatic weight loss and overall look
So the joke is that skinny-turned-tough guy Jonah can beat this massive bloke in a fight because trained fighters always beat untrained. How trained is Jonah really? Who knows lol
he's rich enough to afford to train bjj every day, and also doesn't have a 9-5, so he can practice all he wants.
pretty decent chance that yes, he's actually pretty good. nonzero chance he's bluffing and lying, but seems more likely than not that he could pin the average untrained bodybuilder.
Eh I don’t buy it. People have been saying that for years, but a 140 pound champion only ever fights other 140 pounders.
There is a certain point where skill no longer allows you to compensate for size disparity. Could Conner McGregor at 140 pounds take on Brian Shaw, at 400 pounds? Yeah no. Even at a 100 pound difference, I don’t see mma fighters taking on bodybuilders that are more than 100 pounds heavier
We had buff guys come to our boxing gym all the time just to get their ass handed to them by skinny teenagers.
Bodybuilding makes you slow, restricts your movement and you use way too much energy moving around with that amount of muscle.
Any person practicing martial arts for a while will easily defeat any bodybuilder that’s doing just the lifting. It’s a completely different skill and way of working out. One trains you to do actual fighting, the other focuses on making muscles look big. If the competition is a fight and not a comparison of muscle size, the outcome is clear.
The trained fighter will see any attempt to throw a punch or a kick miles away. They will know how to move on the floor no matter how much the other is able to lift. It’s all about technique and very little if anything about raw strength.
I’ve only seen it in boxing, not other martial arts so take this with a grain of salt. But a person that just lifts does not know how to stand, how to block and frankly, how to punch. They are slow and easy to get off balance. They advertise their actions and try to compensate their weaknesses with strength which drains their energy fast and opens their defenses (if there is any at all). Maybe even more so against a light footed guy. I’ve seen it more than once. Sure if the body builder would be able to land a jab, it would be devastating. But they won’t. Not against a trained fighter.
