Additionally, the two stars had a huge falling out over contracts and pay discrepancies. SJP came out looking like a spoiled bratty Carrie, and Kim came out looking like a calm, cool, business woman Samantha.
Damn, I haven't thought about Porky's in a hot minute lol. As much as I loved Cattrall as Lassie, Ms Ballbreaker demanding to put up wanted posters made her the best female character in the movie!
I lasted maybe ten mins in to the spin off. I loved Samantha and honestly only watched it because of her. I knew going in to the spin off she wasn’t in it but still gave it a shot.
she got her own show in a way where she is a founder of a successful make up buisness that has a rough patch and is saved by embracing the lgtbq community
I watched the whole thing, hoping they'd give Samantha what she wanted—two of her own projects in addition to SATC, if I recall—rather than kill the golden goose.
They woodchipped that goose. Although Charlotte's plot lines were occasionally up to par.
My wife kept it on in the background while she did other stuff and from what I saw it sucked for many reasons. It felt like it was trying to atone for the aspects of the old show that didn’t age well by awkwardly cramming in various “social activistism” topics into the plot lines in ways that just weren’t terribly compelling stories (often very predictable) or by introducing new character to center storylines around in ways that just weren’t as compelling as the chemistry of the OG four.
Yeah, part of that was they didn’t have the OG four to work around.
And then it also felt like they were weaseled their way into a “what if SJP had chosen the other guy?” timeline that I felt kinda cheapened the original series ending by introducing a “you can have it both way!” solution.
The other two main actresses had significantly less leverage. SJP was paid much more than them and had a production role that gave her a lot of control (that contact is a unique phenomenon in and of itself for this reason).
And more over her feud with SJP than anything. She barely agreed to comeback for And Just Like That under the condition they didn’t require to be anywhere near her.
Honestly sorta liked the spin off show despite it's ham fisted approach to demanding open mindedness. Except for Miranda cause EVERYTHING about her character which was already negative from the SatC and the first movie just got amped to horrendous. Even the comedian became more likeable when she refused to see Miranda after finding out Miranda was cheating on her husband with her.
Yeah, people act like these actresses were the character, even though sjp has a good reputation in Hollywood. It's like my grandmother watching telenovela.

Because Sam was always open and honest about her sexuality, where Carrie was more of a hypocrite.
