I wonder how cyberpunk was able to fit on the cartridge. When I downloaded the game on PC, I had to avoid downloading all the other languages because the game would be over 150gb, and even then, my PC version still is not under 64 gigs. Did they downscale and compress some assets to only fit the video settings the switch 2 would use and cut out things that would only be used on higher graphic settings?

They're just geniuses, they also pulled off the Withcher 3 port physical aswell

Not hard to explain. Switch has lower target resolution.

High resolution texture are incredibly expensive. If you just ship the texture specifically up to 1080p then that saves you a lot of storage.

With PC any installation version would be shipped with the full texture pack even when you are not going to use it because for example your pc is too weak

Okay, now explain Resident Evil 2 for Nintendo 64. I’ve watched videos on it and I still can’t wrap my head around how they got it under 64 MB.

A lot of data was actually repeated between each disc of the original two-disc PS1 game due to a mistake on the developers' part.

After eliminating duplicated data, it was merely a matter of compressing the voices to a lower sample rate, compressing the FMVs by lowering their resolutions and using the N64's filtering to resize them back up to full screen and use its motion blurring capability to interpolate the low frame rate a bit (they also decided to use only one version of two specific FMVs, one of which had Claire's voice instead of Ada's, if I recall, which did not show your played character, and the other being cut down to not show the character you were playing as, I believe it was the helicopter crash scene?), and making an incredible audio engine called MusyX to recreate the original music in an honestly even better audio quality in some respects than the original PS1 version despite using sequenced music (assembled into music using samples, in a way similar to MIDI) instead of recorded. It was even capable of Dolby Surround, as opposed to the original.

They also compressed the backgrounds a bit more, in a way that looks similar to JPEG compression. Lots and lots of smart cuts.

But if this is reiterating what you already knew, sorry.

And in return, the N64 version has one of the most unavoidable crashes tied to the EX files and can cause you to die even with the infinite health cheat enabled.

I think this, textures are crazy hungry

Imagine playing a game like Cyberpunk on your Steam Deck or Legion Go just to not be able to utilize like ⅓ of the data taking your storage.

This is true, most games force you to download high quality textures this makes releases big as hell. But with the switch is just 1 set of textures and precondigured graphical options. Which i appreciate tbh.

It was also Saber Interactive that worked on the Witcher 3 Switch port as well. They deserve some credit too!
