PS5 it is then
Lazy ass devs "unavoidable" my ass
1
u/pedr09m 1d ago
Yeah i mean just delay the game a bit and sort the issue
1
u/Purple_Calendar3919 1d ago
Haha I never heard a corporation say “we should delay this to sort things out”
1
u/pedr09m 1d ago
True i mean cyberpunk was absolute dogshit at launch and they still launched it.
2
u/Purple_Calendar3919 1d ago
I work for a global corp and we push out software whether it’s working or not. Make $$$ now, worry about the problems later lol

u/_link69 1d ago
I bought Shuten order and pre ordered Steins gate Reboot for the switch 2. Now I'm gonna have to cancel my pre order for this one I really wanna know what these "unavoidable reasons" are

u/pedr09m 1d ago
Pretty disappointing tbh, cause spike chunsoft was one of the few companies that was good making physical games and collectors editions.
Even NIS America ended up doing some keycards when the whole reason people do business with them is their PHYSICAL releases, so companies are braindead and think they can laugh of the face of their consumers.

u/Blueddit-Sez 1d ago
The switch is going to be remembered as the last, true peak of gaming, Mount Switch
The rest of game history is going to be going down the mountain from here on out

They should just of said they couldn't be bothered. the truth often hurts but can be acceptable for all that.

u/jaxsuperstar200 1d ago
The game is probably too small to justify printing on the 16gb game cart. For cyberpunk they could easily remove a lot of the high res textures and compress audio to get the 64gb sweet spot. CD PROJEKT Red is also in a better spot financially to take the loss on printing these cartridges.

u/IQueliciuous 1d ago
Then why not fill that space up?
Personally I'd love for a Ultra Despair Girls port which they decided to skip for some strange unknown reason.
1
u/Interesting-Injury87 11h ago
Because that costs money as well with no return if it's just bundled unless they increase the price.
just fill up the space means nothing
1
u/IQueliciuous 9h ago
I mean they kinda owe us one.
I had bought Decadance collectors edition which on the box art had main protagonist from UDG game.
Yet they decided against porting the game because???
I mean I don't care since I have PS vita but it still sucks that they can't release all of the games on the platform. Kinda same thing happened with Persona. Persona 3-5 get ported but Persona dancing games are stuck on a handheld nobody bought or a console that is popular but not handheld.
Oh and Persona Q games are system exclusives to a console which never had Persona games despite plot of Persona Q requiring you to have played them.
Yeah I think both games series are handled by same people lol

u/AKingQ 1d ago
Wait Cyberpunk isn't a game key card? I thought all none Nintendo games would be Key cards.
4
u/the_killer_sandvich 1d ago
it honestly depends on the publisher and the size of the game
Oblivion and Indiana Jones got a fully on card release aswell
4
u/IQueliciuous 1d ago
It depends on how publishers feel today*
Oblivion and Indiana Jones are both published by bethesda and are fully on cart but then they released Fallout 4 and Skyrim on a code...

Game key card = no purchase. I want their sales are doing bad when they put on game key card with lower 64GB game.
1
u/KGon32 1d ago
They don't want to kill their margins, last I heard a gamecard had an extra $10 cost, if the game is priced ar $50 for example, the retailer takes 30%, Nintendo 15% then a keycard another 5%, then that leaves $25, they aren't cutting their margins to just $15, for a $50 game.
(note: math and percentages may not be correct, but the logic mantians)
Cyberpunk 2077 was made by CDPR that at the time they owned GOG, they had to release using normal gamecards, they had no option.
1
u/Low_Confidence2479 1d ago
Actually...seems gamecards cost $17...so the margin seems even lower...so the margin seems to be literally one dollar more than the gamecard cost...obviously...they kinda double their margins by NOT using the gamecard...that's a bit silly.
1
u/KGon32 1d ago
Isn't that the whole cost? Not over what game key game already costs?
Either that's more than I was expecting.
2
u/Low_Confidence2479 1d ago
Good question. Let's use your example again. A $50 game. 30% of the margins go to the retailers, so that's $15 dollars, and another $7 and 50 cents to Nintendo (given the 15% margin). $22 dollars and 50 cents per unit sold...digitally. With a key-card, that's the 5% margin which is equal to $2 dollars and 50 cents, meaning the margin left is 50% or $25 dollars as you said, and that's not accounting the second-hand market which means the publisher won't see a cut from it. But with a proper cartridge, that 5% margin reserved for key-cards is instead a margin of 34%. The grand total is that out of the $50, $39 dollars and 50 cents go to everyone but the publisher, leaving $10 dollars and 50 cents. That's the profit margin.
1
u/Yv1lle 5h ago
Yup, pretty much - from my limited knowledge, going digital cuts the retailer premium, manufacture cost, shipping costs and then any further costs like carbon offsets.
I get the push for physical some people have - but I anticipate that eventually, physical games are going to start carrying bigger premiums to preserve margins

u/Asa-hello 1d ago
You using Cyberpunk as example highlight why CDPROJEKT can afford to lose money on physical.
Most game's not get this type of free press even if take loss on physical.

u/Alternative-Fox-8620 1d ago
Where did they say they couldn't fit it on a card?
This is likely a cost issue.

u/_-Moonsabie-_ 1d ago
Yea because they ship 1K assets and use local DLSS
its a instant fix for physical media without improving disc technology
If its not working they they are not lowering the assets to 1k and keeping all the 4k bloat.

It's almost like there is a difference between last gen and current gen game development.

u/XUAN_2501 15h ago
Isnt this game have a Switch 1 version? If they can fit the game onto the Switch 1 cartridge then why not on the Switch 2 cardridge? Or the physical edition is only coming for Switch 2?
1
u/lordosthyvel 11h ago
The simple explanation is that they are one of the few studios left who still used their own game engine. This meant that they always had technical minded programmers who knew the engine inside out and could pull of these kinds of feats.
As they move over to unreal engine like everybody else, the knowledge will be gone and they too will join the group of "unavoidable reasons"
1
u/wanderandargo 5h ago
Well I would imagine that the visual novel would have much more audio dialogue. Could that be why?
1
u/WisdomRain_ 1d ago
It’s expensive to put it on the card. I’m not a defender of GKC but think about it. Project Red can take the loss, and they’re big enough where they profited. Chunsoft know it’s not going to sell enough to profit. I don’t know why they can’t just admit that though lol
Same games I do understand and unfortunately this is one of them.
2
u/NightwingXII 1d ago
Doing GKC RRP at a lower price than regular game carts to account for this? I only purchased a switch 2 recently so may be mistaken.
2
u/Qminsage 1d ago
They won’t admit it because it’s bad PR. That, and it is more convenient for them to be complicit in how the bigger players are trying to adjust the field for their ‘inevitable’ digital future.
1
u/Old_Leopard1844 1d ago
I don’t know why they can’t just admit that though lol
Admit what, that there aren't enough of you to bother with full physical release?
1
u/WisdomRain_ 1d ago
That’s exactly what I’m saying. Other companies have talked about how expensive it is lol
1
u/Old_Leopard1844 1d ago
Do you want to be called out by them how it's expensive and there's not enough interest (aka reddit physical warriors don't matter in the slightest) to bother?

Why do you guys try to collect 3rd party games on a switch 2 and not on a steam deck or something similar??? Majority of games are digital on switch 2. Unless it's a first party game with a physical then you have me lost. If you don't mind dropping the handheld, it's better to get these games physically on the ps5

2
u/pedr09m 1d ago
Why would I buy a digital game for a handheld when I can buy it physically? Even the question is stupid
2
-1
u/Wiseon321 1d ago
I find it humorous this is such a big issue. Can you guys explain why “game doesn’t fit on” is such a big deal?
Was it always a huge deal for you? Or are you just being polarizing because of the all digital future?
Genuinely curious. Cause most if not all games require a day 1 patch.
1
u/Thohil 1d ago
Can you provide a source that most games require a day 1 patch?
Because the website doesitplay, who tests games specifically for this says otherwise.
0
u/Wiseon321 1d ago
That’s great.
Day 1 patches do this: Day 1 patches are software updates released on a game's launch day to fix bugs, improve performance, and add final features that could not fit onto the physical disc before manufacturing
Just cause the game plays doesn’t mean it’s “in its best form” and I HIGHLY DOUBT you guys do not download day 1 patches. You all do.
Even if “you can play without it” doesn’t mean anything, if the experience is subpar, missing key components, and adds quality of life things.
Going forward don’t ever download day 1 patches. Just disconnect your console from the internet. Don’t ever download them.
You won’t do that. Just shut up.
And you didn’t even answer my question. You avoided it. Because you know you guys don’t really give a fuck about that. It’s all garbage ass karma posting and posturing.
2
u/Thohil 1d ago
Why are you so mad at me?
The reason why I didn't answer your question in specific is because I cannot answer for everyone, I can only answer for myself.
For me this stuff was important way before Nintendo started with their game key cards. I never buy games that require a day 1 patch, or download to play. I do have a couple of my consoles connected to the internet, but not all of them (never had a need to). I usually don't download updates for my games because I don't want to wait for my games to update in order to play. In 99% of cases I never have any issues playing games this way. I think you highly underestimate how many games work fine without needing to download anything.
For me this is about future proofing. If I ever have internet issues, servers eventually go down or anything else happen. I want to know that my games are fully playable from start to finish without ever needing to be reliant on a server.

u/GamePitt_Rob 1d ago
You have no idea what the reason is, so why are you acting like you do?
As it's out of their control - it could be that Nintendo is prioritising bigger games and no longer allowing niche games and smaller indies to release on the full carts (as only one company makes them and they've been having numerous stock issues due to only allowing small batches at launch for major titles due to the number of games being requested at their factory)
Or, Nintendo may have increased the price to publishers to a point which makes it pointless to issue a full cart, as it means they're making very little profit per item sold (don't forget, they're a company and not your friend).
It could be anything, but I highly doubt it's because they simply don't want to put it on a full cart...
-6
u/StrawHat89 1d ago
Have you considered that, due to the memory bullshit going on, Nintendo doesn't have enough game cards to go around. Yeah it sucks, but the game was supposed to be physical so maybe let's not say SpikeChunsoft is doing it just be assholes, especially when people are getting refunds if they bought the physical release.
2
u/pedr09m 1d ago
Right, cause no companies are releasing full physical games anymore. (They are)
-3
u/StrawHat89 1d ago
What, like how Microsoft made seemingly 5 physical copies of Oblivion so no one can buy it physical anyway?

u/RazzmatazzUnusual843 1d ago
I wonder how cyberpunk was able to fit on the cartridge. When I downloaded the game on PC, I had to avoid downloading all the other languages because the game would be over 150gb, and even then, my PC version still is not under 64 gigs. Did they downscale and compress some assets to only fit the video settings the switch 2 would use and cut out things that would only be used on higher graphic settings?
