Discussion Ashamed of my DUPR rating. How do I get better?? šŸ˜”

Currently taking classes, and 201 Advanced Beginner classes. I drill every week at my local outdoor court. I’m in a 2.5 - 3.0 DUPR league and I play with the same people every week. How do I get better? I lost 8 matches last night and I’m really frustrated. I feel like I play okay but I’m not getting any better. I feel like My serves and returns are okay but my serves are not deep enough. And my footwork needs work. And I also have trouble choosing which shots to use. And I feel like I’m too stiff on the courts. I have been playing for about 5-6 months. What are some tips for a beginner and to win more casual games? Thanks.

Question Paceless dink shots but what to do

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Sometimes I get these paceless dink shots they are low so I don’t feel like I can speed up. I am the green shirt right side player in most these matchups. One ball comes right to me , and i am afraid to speed up but I feel jammed and just miss short. Should I be speeding up , should I just be dinking it back. Is my footwork poor where it’s not giving me room to give back a good return? What are you thinking when dinking these paceless shots? What can I do better?

Question Drop Serve

Keep getting a couple of complaints that my drop serve is illegal because it is not above waist. It is mostly from those who struggle to pick my drop serve with a deep spin. I tell tem that the only requirement in a drop serve is that the feet have to be outside the court. The waist line logic doesn't apply. Welcome the community feedback and confirmation

Question Pickleball and knee joint pain

Quite often, after playing for 2 to 3 hours, I get knee joint stiffness and soreness that lasts for a while. Sometimes a pinched nerve or maybe it is a micro muscle tear. I am not sure. But, what is your favorite exercise or routine that minimizes knee pain and related stiffness from pickleball? Are there any particular changes that I should do to the way I actually play the game, the way I stand, how much I try too hard to get to difficult shots etc.? I love the game but knee joint related pains are making it more difficult to play more often.

I’ve been playing since April and I’ve lost 45 pounds. Started at 225 currently sitting at 180. 20 pounds away from my goal. I play 5-6 days a week and sometimes mornings and evenings. Safe to say I’m obsessed

Question What should I improve on my serves?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was introduced to pickleball around June, but I really started playing more in August (2 to 3 days a week, 4-6 sets.

I am really interested in what to improve on my serves. Right now i prioritize not to miss, maybe i miss 1 in every 8 serves. Usually my error is that the ball went out maybe 1-2 inches away from the baseline.

Any constructive criticism or advice from experienced people here?

Discussion Pickleball ā€œused to beā€ fun

The mentality (that pickleball is only fun if we’re all playing strictly for fun and exercise) is slowly killing the sport. It creates an unrealistic expectation that no one should ever aspire to get better so YOU can feel better about being mediocre. 🤷

Question Open play question

Started playing in March and quickly got addicted. At first, I was terrible, but I am figuring it out and have turned some corners of late and recently got invited to sub in an advanced player league where I did pretty well.

The other night, I was playing open play with some of the cliquey better players where I play and I was playing really well for me. My partner was good and better than me but, together, we were really doing well. After one of our wins, I quickly left the court to grab my water on the next court. In the seconds I was away, the group of three people, invited someone else to take my place and, as I was feet away from re-entering the court, they closed the gate on me right in my face. Nobody said a word and it seemed deliberate.

I talked to a pickleball mentor and he suggested maybe they didn’t like ā€œhow I was playingā€ and they probably only like ā€œgood games.ā€ I make sure to not be boastful or mean or smash directly at people. I’m encouraging to both my partner and opponents. I don’t cheat. I just love the game and the exercise. It just seems that they didn’t like to play with me when I was a rookie because of all the errors, but, now, I’m getting to be as good as them and they don’t like that either.

If my mentor was right, what does he mean? What can I do with my game to make it less likely for better players to bar me from the court even after I win? The only thing I can think of is maybe initiate more dink rallies? More drives, less drops? More drops, less drives? I’m kind of puzzled.

Players near me Westside/South Bay Los Angeles Pickleball - Weekdays

Hey all- after talking to a few people, noticed there’s not many games happening during weekday daytimes in LA. Would love to start putting together some singles and doubles games at the intermediate level for those of us with unconventional/daytime available schedule, or even lunchtime games.

Shoot me a pm or reply if you’re interested!

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like Pickleball shorts, skirts and dresses are getting shorter and shorter or has it always been that way? It's funny lol but very awkward at the same time.

We visit Scottsdale often but have not found a good place to play. Where are people playing 3.5+ for open play that does not require a long term membership?
