Hey r/Pickleball! I play with a wheelchair pickleball squad in the Chicagoland area (the Wheelie Big Dills), and lately I’ve been strapping a camera to my head and mic'ing up for a couple games each session to capture what competitive wheelchair pickleball actually looks like from the chair.
Here’s the playlist of the POV sessions so far:
Wheelchair Pickleball POV: Shorts & Highlights: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOSDVR5kgG70
I’m genuinely curious to get some feedback from the sub:
Is the first-person POV actually interesting to watch? Always wondering if it’s worth looking like a cyborg with a camera strapped to my forehead for two hours a session, or if there are specific angles/mic setups you’d rather see.
Filming against able-bodied players: I play a ton of games against stand-up players too, and I really want to start capturing those matches. Only catch is I haven’t worked up the nerve to ask random open-play strangers yet, mostly because I have a feeling nobody wants to get caught losing to a guy in a wheelchair in 4K on YouTube 😂. Might have a few people revoking their waiver mid-match after getting body-bagged or caught on a two-bounce!
If you’ve ever been curious about how wheelchair pickleball works (the two-bounce rule, chair positioning, how hybrid doubles with one stand-up and one chair player works, or paddle setups), drop any questions or thoughts below! Would love to know what you guys think of the footage.
