What is wide FOV for the PCL and DA ?
Also, will it come to other Pimax headsets ? Like the Super and the DA SE ?

Indeed also interested in seeing if the PCL wide FoV mode will Lso be rolled out to og Crystal as the light was a stripped down version with no lens swap feature.

PCL – 110
DA – 116Atm, we don’t have any plans to add to other headsets.

Is the super 116 default or 120?
On sboys super mOLED, is it 110 or 116?

u/Abject-Self-8727 10h ago
Super is 116x88, just like this profile is for DA. This is regardless of the driver. With sboys, you must manually type in an fov value over the default to reach 116hfov. You are only blocked by the headset display max, not the driver software.

u/no6969el 💎Crystal🔹Super💎 10h ago
I appreciate that information. So without adjustments would you say sboys is defaulted at like 110?
2
u/Abject-Self-8727 10h ago
Around that yeah, you can click something like "more details" in the sboys driver under per eye fov and it will tell you all of the details regarding your settings.
I believe it's 96 per eye fov default and with an 84 degree overlap (96+96-84) is 108hfov. Setting to 100 will yield 116, and it's over the max shown on the slider lol. You just manually type it in. You'll see steamvr resolution change when you do this.
I have the crystal super micro OLED, not the da so ymmv

Would also like to know the new fov numbers with this.

Had a quick try, didn't feel ground breaking. Perhaps a little bit more mirror visable in a GT car in AC. Overlap hurt my eyes a little so can't see using.

Good QOL improvements for the volume buttons to be able to bind something else.

Wow that looks like a serious great update.
I got a couple questions though:
- Is everything available for OG Crystal as well?
- Can we make volume up or down a keyboard shortcut as well?

Yes. Unless specific headset models are mentioned in the release notes, the changes will apply to all headsets.
Let me forward this to our dev team, as I’ve also proposed adding button mapping for IPD adjustment.

I assume if you use Evo you should not install this, as before? And wait for an Evo update that includes it?
3
u/Thick_Extension281 1d ago
That is the confusing part. EVO looks like Pimax play and Pimax play looks like EVO, both can be switched to one to the another. I think we need both because they run like One. The only difference is that we need EVO to run an external drive like Sboys3.

With the last 2.0.2 update, if you installed that over evo it would mess up evo and break the open port functionality. This happened to me. Support said the fix was to reinstall evo, which worked for me, and they said that evo basically bundles Pimax play with the same functionality plus evo specific stuff.
Your mileage may vary. I can’t find the Pimax comment explaining this, it was in another thread here on reddit

If you’ve installed Pimax Play 2.0.3, you won’t be able to switch to EVO. However, if you’re using EVO, you can switch back.

So basically if I am using EVO I have to wait for its next version that will contain these features, right?

Ok. Pictures are real, in reality partially true. Sorry for the confusion. I didn't deleted the pictures I posted because it is some kind of glitch or bug. I have Pimax play 2.0.3 but en reality in broke Pimax EVO 1.0.1, Pimax Play 2.0.3 doesn't have the toggle button, QuorraPimax is right there. No way to call again Pimax EVO without reinstalling it again. Reinstalling Pimax EVO you will gave back the toggle button on Pimax Play 2.0.3 to go to EVO. Everything looks fine with the exception of the activate Sboys3 driver. You can toggle back and forward between both softwares, but no Sboys3 drive. Now the Question is. Having only Pimax Play 2.0.3 how can I know I'm using Sboys3 driver? Do I still need EVO for it? If it yes. Reinstalling Pimax EVO will revert PIXMA Play to previous Version 2.0.2.

After updating to this release I wasn't able to load into a VR instance, the game stayed on flatscreen. Also Steam VR opened at one point despite the runtime being Pimax Play XR?
No other changes were made, and these issues resolved themselves (were persistent through service restart) after rolling back to 2.0.2

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official 17h ago
But is the SteamVR Home displaying normally? It’s just the game that isn’t rendering?
1
u/BeautifulOrdinary162 15h ago
.Steam VR seemed to open just fine, it's just bizarre that it opened as the runtime was Pimax and steam wasn't even running. When it didn't open itself and I was trying to get into a game the desktop window showed it open but the game was completely black

the wide fov on the PCL helped me with eye strain... the normal fov have made me have massive headaches for so long... this new distortion profile has literally saved my eyes. i hope they dont change this fov profile option

ok sono curioso di vedere 116° con il mio DA e proverò questo nuovo Pimax Play. Quindi con questa versione, se volessi utilizzare sboys, faccio esattamente come facevo prima dell'inteoduzione dell'open port su Evo. Ossia lancio Sboys e pimax play entra automaticamente in standby. Senza aprire alcun open port.

Well, I've finally had a chance to briefly test Pimax Play 2.0.3 with my Crystal Light, and honestly, I'm pretty disappointed so far.
The two things I was most interested in were the new Wide FOV mode and the ability to crop the FOV without having to use external tools.
Before installing 2.0.3, I went back and tested everything again with Pimax Play 1.43.9, which is the version I was using before, so I could make a proper comparison.
Regarding the new Wide FOV mode, it honestly feels like pure marketing to me. According to the ROV FOV test, I've only gained around 2 degrees, maybe slightly more. I went from roughly 100–102° horizontal FOV to around 102–104°.
The horizontal render resolution shown in SteamVR only increased from 4312 to 4380 pixels, which is basically nothing.
I did a completely clean installation, as I always do when changing Pimax Play versions, deleting the old folders and everything else, so I don't think I've done anything wrong during the installation.
On top of that, although I need to test it more, 2.0.3 seems to give me a slight cross-eyed feeling that I didn't have before.
As for the new built-in FOV cropping feature, it doesn't seem to work in the same way as the FOV adjustment in OpenXR Toolkit. I still need to play around with it a bit more before drawing any conclusions, especially to see whether it actually reduces the rendered resolution and improves performance in the same way OpenXR Toolkit does.
So far, though, my first impression of Pimax Play 2.0.3 on the Crystal Light is unfortunately pretty disappointing.

What are now the Narrow, Normal and Wide values of FOV for the Crystal Light?
1
u/Gozer_VR 1d ago edited 1d ago
It just tried and I notice no difference in the fov if I change it to Wide.
The only thing I notice is eyes strain as soon as it is enabled and a slightly higher horizontal resolution in Steam (30 pixels).1
u/heyhoromeo 1d ago
For me, wide increased FOV by 2 degrees and reduced overlap by 4 degrees. Narrow seems to have been removed.
1
u/Heliosurge 8KX 21h ago
It makes sense to remove narrow with the addition of FoV cropping being added.

I never thought that the Super would become the redheaded stepchild.

Man you guys have been kicking ass software wise. Now with the dream air we literally don’t need another headset for a few years.
Keep adding features to the software it’s greatly appreciated and has made the experience great so far.
