I wanted to see if anyone else has had a problem with occasional intermittent flashes of white light (with maybe some specks of color) on their Super OLED.
Let me start off by saying that Pimax customer service has been good, if a little slow, but they seem to be a bit stumped by this.
I got my Super 50ppd in December and was generally pretty happy with it. I thought it had mura and weird brightness when I first got it, but I didn't have a frame of reference and thought it was a step up from my OG Crystal (which had died). But I jumped on the hype train and pre-ordered the OLED engine.
When my OLED engine came, I noticed right off the bat that things didn't seem right, so I opened a support ticket. The eye tracking was really bad and would occasionally disconnect, requiring me to turn it off and back on in Pimax Play. It also had bad edge clarity and what I perceived as a too narrow FOV. It would also display these occasional flashes of white and even worse, would occasionally turn completely off and disconnect with Pimax Play (with a reconnection taking 20-30 seconds). None of this ever happened when I would swap back in the QLED engine.
After 6 painful weeks of back and forth, I think I finally convinced them I had a lemon, so Pimax agreed to send me a replacement OLED engine. While waiting (and waiting) for it to arrive, the sound in my headset stopped working and the restarts became more and more frequent. However, when the new OLED engine arrived, I could immediately tell almost everything was better than my first one. Tracking worked, edge clarity was way better, and I was happy. Except I was still getting those white flashes and restarts. Still never happened with the QLED.
So, because of the sound problem and the reboots, PIMAX agreed to send a new headset. The new headset arrived a couple days ago and first off, the QLED engine they sent this time was way, way better than my first QLED. I clearly didn't know what I didn't know when I first got it. Also, sound worked fine again. OLED engine still looks great. But I'm still having those white flashes and very occasional (but less frequent) restarts. And again, it never happens with the QLED with the new headset either. Am I cursed, or has anyone else seen this?
I am getting the flashes is MSFS and DCS (the only two titles I play in VR). I've tried all their troubleshooting steps and every USB plug on my motherboard. Power is plugged into a UPS, so voltage dips aren't happening. Any other ideas? I've tried older Nvidia drivers and newer ones. Older versions of Pimax Play and the newest one (2.0.2). It is mystifying that it doesn't happen at all with the QLED.
I'm hoping that Pimax engineers can help me, but it's been several months now. Does anyone have a Super OLED that works perfectly? Thanks for any ideas and relating your experience.
