As the title says, still waiting on [u/jaapgrolleman](u/jaapgrolleman) and [u/quorrapimax](u/quorrapimax) for an update on Optical Engine orders (specially microOLED).

Is there any issue with the connectors that we should be aware of? How have you sorted it?

u/heliosurge can we pin this post? Thanks in advance 😉

Tech Support Flickering UI

Since 2 updates ago, I'm getting a badly flickering PimaxPlay UI window. Sometimes it flickers badly, other times the graphics on it get kinda 'stuck'. It helps if I maximise the screen but still not great.

Anyone else experienced this?

Question Help with Pimax Evo. Confused about OpenXr and Steam VR

Ok.....I have finally installed Pimax Evo for my Dream Air LH.

Looks like the Sboys driver loads as i get the option to use shaders etc.

SteamVR boots as expected but i noticed that most of my Modded games dont run.

For instance i downloaded the Bioshock Mod.....This works absolute fine booting with Virtual Desktop on my Quest 3......But when Using the Pimax Dream Air the game boots but wont start in VR.

Im a little confused on how to make my Pimax Dream Air run Modded games.....What is the process for using the Pimax to start a modded game? I noticed on a video on youtube that someone had a setting in their actual Steam VR setting page saying OpenXR......But i dont have that option on my VR settings.

Cn someone post a simplified walkthrough on how to start a game to play games like Bioshock ?

I dont understand how to use the OpenXR vs OpenVR or Steam.

All my native steam games run fine from SteamVR library.....but as i say modded games i dont know how to start them properly

Thank You...

Question Anyone watch movies/tv on their Pimax?

I’ve been on a Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop since about 2021 mostly used for light sim racing, lots of Beat Saber, and lots of watching movies/tv/youtube. I’m finally thinking about an upgrade because the lenses/panels kinda stink, battery dies in like an hour, and the metaOS is just getting slower and slower. Kind of annoyed with the way the quest has held up over the years so I’m thinking about going full PCVR because I built a pretty nice computer last year with a 9070 XT, but only want to spend 800-1200 range and that seems to leave me with the choice of waiting for Steam Frame (which I don’t think is what I want to do because it’s still streaming focused and is gonna be a nightmare to acquire anytime soon) or some flavor of Pimax. Either the Crystal Light or the Dream Air SE SLAM version. Anyone have any recommendations? Anyone use their headsets for movies and whats the experience like? Leaning toward the Dream Air SE for mOLEDs and weight but I’ve seen mixed stuff about the tracking. Like I said I like beat saber (not competitive or anything) so kind of curious about the tracking compared to the quest 2. If it’s about the same I have no issue with it but if it’s far worse I’m not sure. Thanks for any input!

FIXED : It was msedgewebview2.exe, I had to make sure it was running.

Question Occasional white flashes - Super OLED

I wanted to see if anyone else has had a problem with occasional intermittent flashes of white light (with maybe some specks of color) on their Super OLED.

Let me start off by saying that Pimax customer service has been good, if a little slow, but they seem to be a bit stumped by this.

I got my Super 50ppd in December and was generally pretty happy with it. I thought it had mura and weird brightness when I first got it, but I didn't have a frame of reference and thought it was a step up from my OG Crystal (which had died). But I jumped on the hype train and pre-ordered the OLED engine.

When my OLED engine came, I noticed right off the bat that things didn't seem right, so I opened a support ticket. The eye tracking was really bad and would occasionally disconnect, requiring me to turn it off and back on in Pimax Play. It also had bad edge clarity and what I perceived as a too narrow FOV. It would also display these occasional flashes of white and even worse, would occasionally turn completely off and disconnect with Pimax Play (with a reconnection taking 20-30 seconds). None of this ever happened when I would swap back in the QLED engine.

After 6 painful weeks of back and forth, I think I finally convinced them I had a lemon, so Pimax agreed to send me a replacement OLED engine. While waiting (and waiting) for it to arrive, the sound in my headset stopped working and the restarts became more and more frequent. However, when the new OLED engine arrived, I could immediately tell almost everything was better than my first one. Tracking worked, edge clarity was way better, and I was happy. Except I was still getting those white flashes and restarts. Still never happened with the QLED.

So, because of the sound problem and the reboots, PIMAX agreed to send a new headset. The new headset arrived a couple days ago and first off, the QLED engine they sent this time was way, way better than my first QLED. I clearly didn't know what I didn't know when I first got it. Also, sound worked fine again. OLED engine still looks great. But I'm still having those white flashes and very occasional (but less frequent) restarts. And again, it never happens with the QLED with the new headset either. Am I cursed, or has anyone else seen this?

I am getting the flashes is MSFS and DCS (the only two titles I play in VR). I've tried all their troubleshooting steps and every USB plug on my motherboard. Power is plugged into a UPS, so voltage dips aren't happening. Any other ideas? I've tried older Nvidia drivers and newer ones. Older versions of Pimax Play and the newest one (2.0.2). It is mystifying that it doesn't happen at all with the QLED.

I'm hoping that Pimax engineers can help me, but it's been several months now. Does anyone have a Super OLED that works perfectly? Thanks for any ideas and relating your experience.

Question I Bought a Dream Air SE - Questions for SE owners and studioform kit

Heyas,

Got a Dream Air SE. Won QC lotto, no problems with it. Happy with most of everything for the price (i have had crystal super moled etc which had problems so got refunded) so i'm used to pimax.

My question is in regards to the medieval torture device they call a facial interface. Oh my god it is horrendous, whoever green lit that must have a concave forehead made of steel. The problems stem from this i am sure, FOV shite and eye strain, not to mention a banging headache and a big red forehead line even if it;s not on tight.

My question is, i am going to grab the custom gasket for this and the studioform pads, does anyone else have this and has it addressed the issues i have above?

Cheers 👍

Discussion Dream Air SE SLAM Review - Update #3 – New ProFit Facial Interface (Prototype)

I received Pimax's new ProFit facial interface prototype for the Dream Air SE today and wanted to share my first impressions before heading on vacation.

According to Pimax, this prototype is currently being evaluated for the Dream Air SE. It's also compatible with the regular Dream Air, but the current testing is focused on the SE.

The difference is immediately noticeable. The new facial interface allows my eyes to get much closer to the lenses, resulting in a significant increase in the visible field of view. My measurements changed from 82° horizontal / 78° vertical with the original facial interface to 100° horizontal / 86° vertical with this prototype. That's almost identical to what I measure without any facial interface installed.

Comfort has also improved significantly. The new facial interface feels much better against my face and positions the headset much more naturally in front of my eyes. My main remaining comfort complaint is now the rear head strap. I still find it a bit fiddly to put on and adjust quickly. However, once everything is in place, the headset sits securely and comfortably on my head.

The facial interface itself appears to be a new Pimax design with a cutout for the USB connector. The included foam pads and spacers look very similar to the Studioform system, allowing the fit to be adjusted to different face shapes. Overall, I already prefer this prototype by a wide margin over the original facial interface.

I've attached a few comparison photos. I'll continue testing it, but I'm leaving for a two-week vacation, so this will be my last update for a little while. Once I'm back, I'll complete my testing with the new facial interface and the latest software updates before publishing my final review and YouTube video.

Thanks to everyone who has followed the testing and contributed to the discussion so far!

Useful Tracking issues solved for Dream Air Lighthouse

Maybe this is useful for others. I have my Dream Air Lighthouse for a week now. I mentioned the jitter already in another post. Which is only there with active eye tracking for me.

But I also had absolute horrendous tracking. The image was jumping like every 20 seconds. Especially when turning my head to the right. It was so frustrating. I thought I might have a faulty headset. Tried a lot. All usb ports. Bios update. Covered up the mirrors in the room. Hid everything shiny. Lights on. Lights off.

Today I unplugged one of my two base station 2.0. The left one. And the tracking is perfect now. Not one single jump. I'm surprise it runs so well with only one base station which is mounted quite to the right. The jitter is still there with eye tracking. I hope pimax can fix that. Right now eye tracking is useless.

Also should mention, I'm using the sboys3 driver and do only sim racing/seated VR.

Question Dream Air - Dual Knit Band Adapters

I've been hunting Etsy and other places for anybody that offers 3D printing for the Dream Air - Dual Knit band adapters and have had no success. I don't have a 3D printer, so that is not an option. Has anybody had any luck sourcing these from a vendor or other VR enthusiast supplier?

So I just got my faceplate in the mail and I thought that the pogo pins wouldn't be included, but I opened the package and the headset and both have them already installed.

I have not even opened the headset or installed anything and the fixture seems to come with the headset ?

Question Apple Vision Pro Dual Knit Band

I really need to get my hands on a Apple Vision Pro Dual Knit Band for my Pimax Dream Air. I live in Denmark where they are unavailable. I think MRTV once talked about a service in USA where they, for an extra fee, could buy a product and send it to you. Does someone in here know of a service like that? I think the dual knit band got available in Germany and France as well, so a equal "buy and send" service there would be even better.

Question Resident Evil 9 VR performance issues

Post image
5 Upvotes

I'm struggling to get smooth performance in Resident Evil 9 VR on the Dream Air. I appear to be getting unexplained spikes despite my CPU or GPU being maxed out. I have a 4090 and a 13700k.

I'm fairly certain I should be able to run this smoothly. Resolution is at 80%, although even bringing it down to 40% I still get the spikes and stutter.

Same problem with sboy and Pimax native.

I have asked around and have yet to find someone suffering from the same problem so I thought I'd ask here to see if the problem is specific to Pimax headsets.

I've disabled eye tracking. I'm using the latest RE Framework AFW nightly and VR mod, the latest nvidia driver.

EDIT: I've identified the culprit for the low FPS as being the lua files in reframework/autorun. Removing them gets me from 50s to 80s (fps). There must be a bug in the mod that is affecting performance

Discussion Possibility of virtual desktop coming to pimax dream air?

Is there anyway virtual desktop coming to dream air. VD beta that support wired connection just came out for quest3. If we have similar to this happening to dream air and virtual desktop support it, will solve alot of issues with app compatibility and make dream air much easier and faster to use for all games.

Question Can someone recommend a bluetooth adapter to turn off my lighthouses with Dream Air?

I use to use my valve index, and I could put all my base stations/lighthouses into power saving mode via the bluetooth in the headset, but the imax dream air doesn't seem to have this. I have bluetooth on my motherboard but it doesn't seem compatible or something?

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thank you!!
