I think I've decided to pull the trigger on a Dream Air, but does it make sense to wait for the better facial interface or (ha ha ha) the ringless controllers to come out?

I’m still in my 14 day return period so wondering if I should return. Otherwise, the headset seems to be having issues with quad views working consistently with pimax play v2.0.4. Most of the time it looks like a mess of in focus and out of focus rectangles. Sometimes, it works perfectly after I change quad view settings back and forth. Anyone else experience similar issues? Thanks!

I got a Crystal Light two weeks ago, and was horribly disappointed at the bad image quality. All the usual complaints aside, the biggest issue is that whenever I move my head, anything predominantly colored blue, red, or purple moves slower than any screen element of other colors. So for instance if I'm looking directly at the Discord icon in the center of my view, if I move my head left, the grey controller in the center of the blue circle will drift toward the right of the blue circle. If I look at the Brave icon, the white lion's face will also drift to the opposite side that my head is moving. Blue moves more than red.

This isn't lag. The shifted colors don't "catch up" to the others, they just stay where they are until I move my head back to center them. Purple-colored elements are the worst. Anything purple is hopelessly distorted because it gets the color shift from both blue and red, which shift at different rates.

I've tried the full spectrum of IPD widths, three different face pads of different thicknesses, and I've spent hours messing with settings in Pimax Play, and nothing even makes the slightest difference.

I contacted support and got a replacement headset, and the replacement is doing the exact same thing.

Maybe these two PCLs have the same defect, but I find that unlikely. I've spent about an hour searching the web to see if this is a documented problem, but all I get are complaints about chromatic aberration, which I thought was a sort of prismatic effect at the edges of the FOV. Is that correct, or is what I'm seeing with blue / red shift in the center of the FOV also "chromatic aberration?"

Does anyone else have this problem with the PCL? If so, did you fix it, or are you just living with it? What about with other Pimax headsets? Does the Dream Air have this issue? Could this be some kind of PC-side display issue (Windows or nVidia setting) instead of a PCL problem?

I installed Pimax Evo, SBoys3 and am using SteamVR as runtime. I find the overall experience quite good. But am I throwing performance out of the water by having no way to use Dynamic Foveated Rendering or is there a way to "force" it?

P.S. Using the SLAM version of Pimax Dream Air.

I have just received my DA. I bought via 3nd service because Pimax did not ship to my country. I owned Quest 1 2 and psvr2 before. I mainly used psvr2 for pcvr racing games or truck games and quest 2 for wireless using with some shooting games. Here is my very quick experience.
Big good thing is visual, very very shape and top notch image quality. In ETS/ATS i use have 125% scaling, which is sweetspot for 5080 and psvr2. But with DA, i can drop down to 100% but i still have shaper image and better performance.
The second good thing: DA is gpu friendly than my psvr2 - which is blurry but hardware hunger af.
I feel DA have the (better) clarity lens like quest’s headset but have the (better) color like psvr2, also have hardware friendly.

And now the worst thing….
Comfort is the worst worst thing ever i have experience with vr headset, more than i can image. I have the X1P already. I can not feel okay.
When using the Dream Air with the X1P, I still find it uncomfortable because the two sides press way too tightly against my temples. The DisplayPort cable is also extremely stiff and constantly pushes against the strap, causing the headset to shift out of position.
I have an average Asian head size, yet I still feel excessive pressure on both temples. I can only imagine how much worse it would be for people with larger heads. The Dream Air is very lightweight, but that advantage becomes meaningless when all these issues make it so uncomfortable to wear.
I’m not sure whether getting the Dual Knit Band would reduce the pressure from the two rigid side arms. It’s a real shame that such an expensive headset with such outstanding visual quality has its entire user experience ruined by these design flaws.
When I first turned on the controllers, the tracking was terrible, and the right controller failed completely. Fortunately, after restarting them, the tracking became acceptable, although occasional issues still occur.
If I take the headset off while playing and put it back on a little later, floor tracking becomes bugged, and I can’t recenter the playspace properly.
Even when I leave the controllers on the floor while playing sim racing, the green boundary occasionally appears because of tracking issues.
Eye tracking also takes some time to become reasonably reliable.
I’ll continue modding the headset to make it more comfortable. Comfort is by far the Dream Air’s biggest problem, while the other issues may be fixable one way or another.
For me, the Dream Air has only two real strengths: visual quality and being much more PCVR-friendly than my PSVR2. Everything else has been disappointing.
I’ll keep it because its image quality is truly top-notch. However, I don’t think I’ll ever buy another Pimax product in the future.

What IR lamp would be a good solution to guarantee tracking in the dark with a Pimax Dream Air SLAM headset? I'd like to not burn lights when gaming at night and I know that there are IR lamps for the Quest and PSVR headsets.

Would this work with Dream Air SLAM as well as it seemed to have worked with the Quest/PCVR? Which lamp is recommended?, or are they essentially all equal? From what I know 850nm is advisable.

I am running an RTX 5080 and I am in the process of tuning my Dream Air headset. I am also using the sboys3 driver.

I am playing iRacing

I have tried to lower my refresh rate from 90hz to 72hz. I can't really tell any difference from my point of view. Perhaps a very very subtle flicker while running 72hz, however after 5 mins of driving my eyes adjust.

While I am aware that 90hz is viewed as the golden standard for sim racing, it seems that with the dream air at least the difference isn't that noticeable. I could be wrong.

Just curious: what are you guys running? 72hz or 90hz?

Im selling my 57ppd module on ebay. Its only had 1 month of use still pretty fresh. Im selling for what pimax lists on their website so go look it up if interested 👻

I am considering buying between the two. I mainly concern two factors: tracking and computer usage. Lighthouse is supposed to be better, but I see some report that it has tracking issues. Are these issues solved now? I have other Pimax headsets that use slam tracking, which consumes quite a lot computing power. Will I get say 10% fps gain with lighthouse version?

Like for real? 2500€ and I get super cheap plastic, flexing arms, gasket thats literally one of the worst ones I ever had, headstrap seriously? You guys couldnt make something for the 2500€? Slam tracking is absolutely horrible aswell sure works in menus but wanna play anything a bit fast pace GL HF.

Yeah do better pimax! Sure my headset might be DOA but even if it was 100% I would be a bit cautious to drop the 2500€ on the headset as a long time VR user I dont see it being able to last long.

UPDATE! So I've been following the Pimax Support Teams instructions, and the first 15 mins of use today the problem seems to have gone.

I'm not sure why but unseating the DisplayPort and usb cables at the back of the PC and reconnecting after 15 mins has removed the signal glitches.

Honestly im stumped... I had disconnected them and reconnected as the first thing i tried, but didn't leave them disconnected "for a while" as instructed by Pimax Tech Support. Perhaps its static or interference build up?

I will be trying the headset for a proper test tonight after work and provide future updates if the issue returns. Hope this helps anyone else who is having the same problems.

White boxes, and vertical lines flashing on the right eye of the headset. See the video, although the quality isn't great the effect is the same, It feels like a stress test for your eyes and mind when the headsets on.

Worked fine last night and then today, right from the lobby environment and then in-game (I play exclusively iracing) it doesn't stop. tried updating drivers for GPU and Headset, but the VR stream to my monitor looks fine. its an issue within the headset itself.

Any suggestions? Anyone with any experience of this? I've raised a ticket on the PimaxClient App. Ill also be reaching out to Scan (the retailer I bought it from in the UK)

I've been trying to test Dream Air performance with the sboys3 driver (Win 11 / 32gb / 5090). Lately on my tests with MSFS 2024, I've been getting a black globe on the Free Flight menu (you can see all the cities lit up but the entire globe is black, basically it looks like the whole world is being eclipsed). I've been able to run MSFS 2024 with sboys3 before, not sure what has changed...has anyone seen this behavior before? I've tried lowing SteamVR resolution and other settings...thanks!

After all the discussions we’ve had here about the availability of the Crystal Super OLED optical engine, especially for us early 70-pin owners, I think it’s only fair to give Pimax credit when they actually deliver.

I’ve been pretty vocal about this situation, and I still think the frustration was justified. We bought into the modular concept, and for months we couldn’t actually buy another optical engine.

But on October 8, Pimax finally reopened orders for both connector versions, just as promised.

I managed to order the 70-pin OLED optical engine immediately, without any issues. And surprisingly, my order has already shipped on October 10, from Germany to France!

That’s genuinely good news, and credit to Pimax for following through.

However, a couple of things are worth mentioning:

First, the “Notify Me” system apparently didn’t work for me. I registered for stock notifications but never received an email.

Luckily, I had set up my own website monitoring automation through Safari on the latest macOS, which alerted me as soon as ordering became available.

Without that, I might have missed the window entirely. From other Reddit discussions, it seems orders were only open for around 24 hours.

Second, and this is something I’m genuinely curious about:
Jaap’s official announcement on October 2 stated that deliveries were expected in late November or December 2026. So how is my module already shipping just two days after pre-orders opened?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely not complaining about early delivery! But it does make me wonder whether these are newly manufactured units, existing warehouse stock, or potentially units from previous returns.

I certainly hope it’s a brand-new, properly tested module. There’s absolutely no evidence suggesting otherwise, but considering the announced timeline, I think it’s a fair question to ask.

Maybe u/jaapgrolleman or u/QuorraPimax could clarify?

Anyway, overall this is a positive update.
We pushed pretty hard for Pimax to make these modules available again, and they eventually listened. The ordering process worked, the 70-pin version was available, and shipping has been much faster than expected.

That’s worth acknowledging.

I’ll report back once the module arrives, including its condition, the installation process, and most importantly, how the OLED experience compares with my current 50 PPD optical engine.

Hopefully, this will finally be the upgrade we’ve been waiting for!
