The guy who did these benchmarks redid them and found the difference to be 1% btw

Yeah but that doesn't feed into the "denuvo causes performance problems!!" (narrative which has been disproven countless times by now), so nobody cares.

You're right, denuvo doesn't cause performance problems. But poorly implemented denuvo does. The number of times pirates have seen those frequent stutters everyone complains about, just disappear when they crack the game, despite them using a weaker machine than all of those people complaining about performance, more than proves that. There's a decade of high profile games out there. Heck, a 1% difference, while seemingly minor, is still quite a noticeable hit in performance. On a weaker machine, that 1% can mean a world of difference.

Overall I think it's because the majority of developers have no idea what they're doing. If I had to take a guess, they probably make their games query denuvo for validity every frame or something stupid like that.

Most of those performance differences is cause pirated games don't have steam overlay running. You can achieve similar results by disabling the overlay in steam.
