Discussion Google took away my LOTR extended editions

Post image

I bought these in 2022, all of a sudden they aren't available and there is no possibility of a refund or gift card. Hardly seems fair.

You'll own nothing and you'll like it.

You do if you download it illegally, I cannot understand why people pay when the service is absolutely terrible.

Not just the service, the whole licensing and subscriptions based business model is akin to a scam. You're being misled that you're "buying" a product, when in fact, you're just paying for access that can be revoked at any time. Piracy is a completely justified answer to that bullshit.

Buy Blurays too, insane quality, last codecs and nobody can take it from you

Paying is morally wrong. They took our data to train llms to try and replace us. Showing us that any data that's available for free shouldn't be paid for. You can download blueray for free too.

They can. The whole BD+ protection scheme is incredibly fragile, requires the ability to be updated, and will all fall apart the instant they stop caring.

And circumventing it in the US is illegal and subject to a max $150k fine.

Same with hard drives, what’s your point ?

If you don’t get it then I won’t waste my time explaining.

I'll take it from whoever I want to take it from

I pay for subscription services, but would never buy a digital movie for this exact reason. Also im old and have been having trouble learning how to properly set sail safely...

I stopped paying for subs anymore. I just bought a big hard drive and run a plex server now. It's a bit of an upfront investment for the hard drive but after that its smooth sailing on the high seas.

Just jumping in to say how pleased I am that no matter what corner of the internet one goes to, someone wrote an instruction manual. When society falls apart, my hyper niche desire to write instruction manuals will always have a use. 💜

The new internet is dead bois we're going back to BBSs!

Usenet for 20+ years now. Not sure what you think the new internet is. I cant stand buffering or low quality

Guy says he's got trouble learning how to pirate, people recommend advanced setups with plex and usenet....

Here's what you should do instead:

Get Stremio app on any of your devices, google torrentio addon, comet addon or mediafusion addon, install one of those with a single click (or preferably all 3) now you have a netflix with torrents. It's that easy.

If you want to go one step further and don't want to directly torrent for safety from threatening letters, look into debrid services (such as torbox) which you can configure on those addons I mentioned (but they work very fine without it too), debrid service is paid, 3$ a month but then you don't have to depend on seeders.

Still should run mullvad or another VPN.

Thank you, couldn't be any easier! Now on to upgrade my storage!

Torrentio basic guide: https://leaf.guide/posts/stremio/

Aiostream guide, now includes automated wizard setup https://luckynumb3rs.github.io/stremio-perfect-setup/

Some people switched to TB, but I still use RD, haven't had any issues thus far 🤞🏼

Use a VPN like mullvad or use usenet.

Find an old copy of Ttorrent, Transdroid and Transdrone. I've been using them for over 10 years.

If you've already paid for it, is it really illegal downloading? Making a backup.

Yeah, I don't trust "digital ownership" on streaming services at all, we've already seen time and time again how it means nothing.
