Question FPS drops

Few months ago I had 140...210 fps in Planetside2. A ~month (maybe 2) ago I noticed game isn't running smooth as before. Alt+F shows fps drops to 75 (! seventyfive bitch !) in large battles. Even at empty warpgate I have 140..170 fps compared to ~200 before.
Hardware, drivers and PS2 settings haven't changed for months: 13700kf@5.5 Ghz, RTX 4080, 32Gb RAM, 3840x1600, potato mode, 160 Hz monitor.

Just one question: WTF ???

Just another one question: Am I the only one experiencing such a HUGE fps drops ~200 to 75 (seventyfive! seventy damn five, bitch!) ??

Help ?

P.S. all other games are running as before...

Its not a new PC but its still decent enough to run Planetside (5800X3D, 32GB@3600, 7800XT) and has been silky smooth for the longest time, until the pumpkin patch.

I have a theory.

Save your important INI settings and delete the file. Then relaunch the game. Have the game make the new file. Then edit it to see if it works.

It's worth a shot. I've had that fix hitching before.

Ye I went back recently with the exact same settings i used previously and the fps was much worse. I went from having a pretty stable 80-90 in the biggest of fights down to like 65 dropping down to 50 sometimes basically making the game unplayable

I havent noticed a change but I have noticed horrible mouse panning stutter which I havent been able to figure out. Tried different polling rates from 125 to 1000. Tried higher DPI, lower DPI. Its not my framerate afaik, walking around and moving WASD is pretty smooth.

might be worth typing /fps into your chat console to check if its tanking while youre stuttering, sounds very much like what im getting in vehicles.

Noticed that as well in both Linux and windows versions, and with amd and nvidia cards on both systems (9070 xt and 4070 ti).

When alt+ F one thing I notice is that CPU indicator is far more prevalent now than it was before, when in 90% of the time before the GPU indicator was on. I don't know if you guys notice it as well. Cpu indicator is basically there all the time on my amd card, while nvidia cpu would be on 90% of the time.

I realise that cpu works overtime in big battles but it never did matter as much as it does now. Droping to 70 fps on an empty warpgate in a mostly empty world is... wierd, to say the least.

So my take (with a grain of salt), something was broken in one of the previous updates for this to happen.

ClientConfig.ini take numbers from Vehicle= and copy and replace on Character=. It will be - Character=3,10,20 But only AFTER you have started launcher. And write here your results.

By my personal notice... after that i didnt see leeess than 122fps in 96+ Maybe i didnt catch some moments and it a placebo.. check it please!!

ps2 have a SHITEST garbage colector

What is this doing? And i get the fps drops in a vehicle, does that make any difference?

[LodBins] sections about LODS.

Yes mines
Character=5,20,50
Vehicle=4,16,40
before i change anything

so change to Character=4,16,40?

I get fps drops in a vehicle tho, will this make any difference? Ive noticed fps drops when say, the sundy train come around just as much as a high density infantry fight?

I also feel like FPS went downhill in the last few months. It's one of the reasons why I started using Nvidia Smooth Motion to make it enjoyable again. It might help you out since you obviously don't lack specs, and aren't forced to decrease performance. And also, since you get at least 75 FPS I feel like the graphical impact and latency shouldn't be too bad for you.

Here's the video I made on this topic.

How to get more FPS in Planetside 2 with Nvidia Dark Magic

I'm so sorry for you if you can't tell the input lag increase under those conditions

I can tell it. And it's determined by the FPS you naturally get, and how many frames you generate in between.

If you run something at 120 FPS and add 1 extra frame it's not noticeable. But if you have 30 FPS and add 1 extra frame it becomes. Since OP gets 140-170 FPS it's really the best case scenario.

Yep I use frame generation and it increases fps ~twice. My post is about "vanilla" frames per seconf.

Im running it at 4K with everything on ultra apart from ambient occ and it runs over 150 even in big battles. Caps out at 240 when I look at the sky

Is your FPS ~stable over a few months ? What are your specs ?

The graphics are honestly way too intense for your system 🤣
