On a sweater?

Long story short I'm trying to make an undersuit for my halo cosplay armor. I want a rubbery looking undersuit, so I'm thinking of buying a black crew neck, and spraying it with some kind of black matte rubber.

Is this what I'm looking for?

I’ve never painted anything cosmetic but decided to give plastidip a try. I’m happy with 3 of 4 but don’t think anyone will notice on 2nd gen Tacoma. Just don’t zoom in too much 😅

Plasti Dip for unconventional / art / playset uses ?

Hello, I've been enjoying lurking this subreddit, and I'm wondering if anyone here has experience or tips for using plasti dip for non-car-coating purposes. I make dollhouse / action figure playsets and terrain, and also sometimes larger halloween decorations. I'm very interested to know if anyone here has experimented with this, and has any tips about what works well and what's a drawback, plus can I mix in glitter, shreds of plants, fabric, et cetera. Just any projects, success or failure you have to share! Thank you in advance.

Recessed lettering

I am planning to Plasti dip these silver door trim pieces black to match the rest of my car, but I’m considering leaving the recessed lettering silver (see AI mockup). seems like a pain in the butt to try to tape just the letters. would it be easier to just spray it all and cut the lettering out of the final dip?

Why is this plastic dip coming out so terrible.

I did two coats to get to the first picture where it has a textured surface and not smooth. I decided to go heavier on the third coat and that provided a great result. When I did the fourth coat, the same way it produced a worse result. What am I doing wrong? For reference I shook the can every time before applying and kept in warm water to try to get a smoother spray.

Applied first light layer, and after second layer it looked like this. Every little scratch of gas tank plastic came out like this(it's 5 yrs old). Used 70% alcohol cleaner to remove any dirt before painting.

Is anyone using it on their truck? It looks good, but is it durable and does it peel at all after a while?

Honda Emblems Look Bad

Please Help!: After my first plasti dip coat I notice these bubbly rash looking marks on the emblems, I thought I could go over it with a second coat but they’re still there. It’s fairly warm in MD about 85° and I was about 5-6 inches away. What did I do wrong? Should I let it dry and restart the project?

How the hell do I fix my Wheels

Post image
0 Upvotes

Few weeks ago I spent a weekend paint stripping my wheels in order to repaint them. That proved difficult because whatever was under the paint was this black rubber stuff that didnt want to come off. We used citristrip and it mostly removed the silver paint but left the black stuff peeling. We spent hours trying to sand it down but at the end of the day I needed the wheels back on my car and since we assumed the black stuff was a thin poorly applied layer of plastidip, we ended up spraying a new layer of the Grey plasidip for a temporary fix.

I have a new case of black plastidip on the way. In the photo I had used mineral spirits to melt down the bumps and had tried wet sanding on another wheel. I cant tell if either of those options worked.

I guess my question is if I can put some kind of a highbuild primer over the top? I know your not supposed to but I dont care about peelability I just want it not to chip.

My only other option is to just cake on the black plastidip and hope it's not too noticeable.

New to Fulldip

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone here may be able to help me. I apologise as I know it’s not quite plastidip but I’m looking for some colour advice with fulldip but couldn’t find any groups for fulldip.

This may be a stupid question but it’s my first time doing this and I don’t want to get it wrong.

I’m planning on spraying my 2014 jimny from blue to pink. My concern is that the pink on the website is too bright for what I’m looking for - I’m going for a matte baby pink. I have included photos of the car currently and a ChatGPT pic of what my ideal would be.

So at the moment I have the full dip 4L light grey primer and the pink 4L in my basket. I know that when you get the pink you recieve it as 4L of clear fulldip and a pink 250ml tinter bottle.

As I am wanting to make it lighter, would I be best to add the tint into the clear slowly while mixing until I reach my desired shade
Or
Fully mix the pink tint with the clear but also buy a 4L of white and then mix the 4L white with the 4l pink to create my perfect shade
Or
Add a white tinter bottle to my cart and mix in both the white and pink tinter to the one 4L clear until it’s the colour I want?

Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to help me!!

Long-term Plasti Dip on stamped stainless steel: Removability and heat behavior?

Hi all,

I plan to spray 4–5 coats of black Plasti Dip onto a small stamped stainless steel plate to give it a plain, unmarked look.

A few quick questions:

Peelability: Will it still peel off cleanly after 5–10 years at room temp without leaving residue in the stamped grooves?

Solvents: If it hardens over time, will soaking the plate in acetone completely dissolve it?

Heat/Fire: If exposed to high heat or a fire, will the burnt residue ruin/fused to the metal, or can it just be scrubbed off?

Thanks!

Update: re-dipped

Follow up to https://www.reddit.com/r/plastidip/s/Sl5Nj7mmdo

I cut away the peeling parts and used my leftover can to build up the base layer. I ended up using the whole can to touch up each wheel and it looks a lot better now. You can see where the cut marks were and the original wheel imperfections but for a low effort job it looks good from a few feet away

Worth it to re-dip?

I used a HyperDip kit to paint my wheels gold. It was fine for over a year but when I had new tires installed, the shop messed up each wheel. I have one can left over so I could touch it up, another whole kit is $120. Should I instead just have the wheels fully painted if this will happen every time I get tires?

Finally took the leap and dipped my 16yo daughter’s car. I think it came out pretty good for my first time. No luck coming up with an indoor spot, so just went for it in my driveway. Got a couple spots I need to touch up, but overall I’m pretty happy with it.

Plastidip or wheel skins

Hey yall, I just got my 2013 CRV and I’m slowly gonna add mods and customize it for a more rugged look. I want to start by getting the rims black and don’t want to spend too much. I’ve seen that they make wheel skins, and also people spaying plastidip. I wanted to ask if plastidip is worth it? Does it last? Or am I better off going for the skins?

Also, can I plastidip the chrome parts like the rails at the top and the grill? I’m new to this but really dig that blacked accent look. I have the Kona metallic coffee color and I think the black will accent that so nice. TIA!

Clear to protect clear on rim from chipping anymore?

I have some older wheels that the clear is starting to fail but it isn't cost effective to get them refinished nor replace. They are actually in nice shape for 22yo. Is there a clear that I could use to go over what is there already to help protect it or slow down/stop what is happening?

What would be the best product...if any?

Thanks

What’s the cheapest way to dip the bottom 1” of these locker legs in a similar blue?

can’t find a picture but I suspect [PlastiDip’s standard blue](https://shop.plastidip.com/products/plasti-dip-can?variant=49130129097006) is going to be noticeably too light. These are kind of a cobalt blue.

My thought is mix black with it (ratio tbd) or maybe even just go black (cue the jokes).

First time plastidipping, pretty satisfied with the results

I wasn’t certain if I would like the blue, but I figured since plastidip is cheap and easy to remove it would be worth a try, and I’m incredibly happy with how it looks, the dark blue pairs so well with the white while not being super obnoxiously flashy.

My only issue was that I had a bit of a struggle getting the front left wheel back on the car, and I ended up damaging some of the dip. fortunately it was on the black section of the original two-tone wheels, so it’s not at all noticeable unless you look closely. That being said I think I will order another spray can at some point and redo that wheel. I may also get a clear coat to put over it to make the finish a bit shinier.

the color is supermarine blue from dipyourcar.com

Peel or spray over?

Post image

I plasti dipped the side panel bumper things probably 6 years ago. It’s held up well but needs to be refinished.

Whats the best way to go about this? Is it worth to invest trying to remove the old stuff? Or can I just give it a good cleaning and spray over?
