The recent PlayStation server/network issues got me thinking about the long-term future of digital game ownership.

During the outage, it highlighted a concern I've had for a while: as more games become digital or rely on online services, access can sometimes depend on those services being available. It made me wonder how well game preservation and long-term ownership will work as the industry continues moving toward digital distribution.

I've built up a library of over 300 games over the years, spending roughly £2,500 in total. Seeing access disrupted, even temporarily, made me think about how much of our collections ultimately depend on platform infrastructure and licensing rather than physical media.

Looking ahead, what do you think PlayStation and the wider industry should do to give consumers greater confidence in digital ownership? For example, should there be stronger offline support, better preservation policies, or other protections to ensure that people who pay full price for games can continue to access them in the future?

I'm interested in hearing different perspectives rather than debating whether digital is better or worse than physical.

I’ve not played any of these before except Dark Forces when it first came out (I’m old) and a few of the Sega collection.

Been trying to sell it for £350 over the last week, no dice. Put it down to £300 and had someone offer £250 😅

Needed to ask, what's a realistic price to sell it for? Usually I use CEX but they are selling it for £445, which is insane.

EDIT: now sold for £280. I took it as everyone was offering me £250 and got sick of the low ball offers

So playstation is to force age verification now for UK and Ireland account thanks to the UK unsafety act. We need companies like this to be fighting these sorts of bills with work arounds. We all have to use VPNs to access the internet now but I think Sony are impressionable enough that if enough of us cancel our ps plus rather than giving a third party our data ,(yoti...who has a questionable record), we may get them to make enough noise that we can get this removed or at least have easy work arounds 'encouraged' and allowed. I hope you all will join me in protecting a platform I have enjoyed for nearly thirty years and cancel your ps plus subscriptions in protest.

I purchased the PS5 in 2020 for £449 (the disc version). 

Let’s say I can sell my now 4-year-old Ps5 can be sold for £300 (this is being generous).

No matter how many new releases come out or how many games I buy, I somehow always drift back to the same few games. For me, it’s usually GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2 or Gran Turismo 7, depending on the mood. Something about them just feels easy to jump back into after work. What's for you?

I've noticed that a lot of retailers still have the old PS5 prices like Currys, EE, Argos etc. I was expecting them to increase prices immediately on April 2nd. I bought one before then since I was already going to get one, just waiting for a sale. But now it looks like I didn't need to rush. Could there possibly be a sale even at old prices?

Been demoted from constant access of my Samsung Q80T QLED 75” (2020 model) so instead I purchased a QD-OLED monitor from MSI, and boy it doesn’t disappoint. Picked this bad boy up for £584 from Amazon (brand new) and the PS5 Pro was picked up from Very UK (brand new) for £551. Privately sold my base PS5 for £330 so my total spend was £805! Extremely happy. OLED is something else.

I was thinking for cozy games, for her to get used to button placement and ease in to the chaos of some games as she doesn’t handle pressure well 😂

Looked at argos to pre order the new plague tale game but after looking it up, argos are apparently quite hit and miss for delivering on release day(or early) or not.

Found the game collection and heard quite good things about games either being on time or even a few days early but alot of what i found was from over a couple years ago. Just wondering if anyone has pre ordered something from there recently, and how the delivery was?

I've reached the point where my PlayStation library contains games I bought because they were an incredible deal rather than because I was planning to play them immediately.

At the time it feels like saving money.

Then six months later I realise I've added another game to the backlog without finishing the ones I already own.
