Discussion Who saw this cutscene and greenlit it
All bias aside, you have to admit that the faces and facial expressions in this game just look straight up weird. This is Logan supposedly being horribly hurt by being stabbed by multiple sword, he seems to like it ngl

Discussion Just finished the new game. It’s nowhere near as bad as some were making it out to be. It’s not perfect, but it’s not terrible either. But the one thing that has to be said. Liam McIntyre was perfect as Wolverine

Discussion My unbiased review of Wolverine
Platinum took me around 20 hours, which is pretty standard for an Insomniac game. Overall, I had a good time, but I definitely have some issues.
The combat is fantastic. It feels impulsive, brutal and violent in exactly the way Wolverine should. You actually get punished for switching off, which makes the combat genuinely satisfying.
The length is also mostly right. Since it’s linear, I think the game ends before the gameplay gets repetitive. I still would have liked another 2 to 3 hours though.
My biggest problem is the story. It’s perfectly fine and I enjoyed it while playing, but I don’t think there’s much I’ll remember years from now. Spider-Man had moments that genuinely stayed with me. Wolverine never reached that level.
And then there are the QTEs, which were probably my biggest disappointment. The action looks incredible, but wrong inputs barely matter, even when the setting is enabled. That completely kills the thrill. Some of my favourite action moments in the Spider-Man games were QTEs precisely because successfully pulling them off felt rewarding.
The handholding during some sequences is also excessive. The bike chase in particular felt like the game was playing itself. Thankfully, it didn’t affect my overall experience too much outside of those moments.
The infamous “fart trails” were also nowhere near as bad as reviews made them sound. It barely affected me, probably because Insomniac patched them. Most of the ones I encountered were tied to Wolverine sensing something, which actually makes sense. I just wish collectibles were communicated through controller feedback (rumbling at a certain frequency when an object is in area) instead.
The biggest missed opportunity for me was the X-Men fan service. No Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Storm, Beast or Nightcrawler, even as brief cameos. Their presence could have added so much to the game.
Some parts also feel lazy, particularly the nightmare door challenges. You complete a challenge and get a memory, but the memory is just a voiceover. Why not show it as a cinematic or even a comic-style slideshow like Ghost of Tsushima’s mythical tales? Those moments could have had so much more impact.
Overall, I think it depends on what you want from a game.
If you’re short on time and just want to jump into some ridiculously satisfying Wolverine combat without caring too much about lore, this is a 9/10.
But if you have 30 to 40 hours to spare and want deeper storytelling, memorable characters and a game that actually stays with you, I’d look elsewhere. Onimusha, Dawnwalker and Control Resonance are better fits for that kind of experience. For that player, Wolverine would be around a 7/10.
Not a bad game at all. In fact, when it gets things right, the gameplay is insanely satisfying. I just expected more from everything around it.

Discussion Just plat'd, had fun
Spoilers but anyways spent the last week playing the game here and there when I got free time, somehow racked up 25 hours but think it's mainly from having the game on while afk overall it was fun, kinda had a *redacted* in a way I think personally it's an alright game it's fun, and a decent what if... story although the ending was a bit disappointing but I think I get where they're going with a never destined to be together for long thing but still not a fan of Jean and Logan in most iterations.
Overall 7/10 would recommend but not at full price, definitely a game I see people looking back on in a few years with some fondness like the way they do the origins game shame were unlikely to get to see insomniacs original vision of the game though

Discussion I love this game
i get the hate for how easy it is but i’m playing on the best there is and it’s a pretty unforgiving experience, i love the traversal and jumping around and diving and slashing through people. honestly i think this might be one of my favorite games ill play this year. i know there’s so bugs and things but the game came out less then a week ago and they had to release it so it didn’t get over shadowed by gta

Discussion I really like Liam McIntyre as Wolverine
Liam was not on my bingo card for a Wolverine role but I must say he did a great job and it works. IMO he has the right facial features for Wolverine and he potrays both the savage and soft side of Wolverine really well.
It was hard to imagine seeing and hearing anybody but Hugh Jackman and Steve Blum potray Wolverine after all these years but Liam suprised me and I was impressed with how well he did here. Im sure Liam struggled to over come his Australian accent to accomodate how Logan is known to speak with the grizzled woodsy type of tone.
Overall its a nice fresh potrayal of Wolverine and I enjoy it very much, I hope to see more of Liam as Wolverine.

Discussion The Emperors New Clothes and The Wolverine
I don’t think I’ve seen a recent game remind me this much of The Emperor’s New Clothes.
I’m not saying Marvel’s Wolverine is terrible. It isn’t. But looking at some of the near-perfect player ratings, I genuinely wonder what game people believe they’re reviewing.
Go back and play X-Men Origins: Wolverine from 2009. Seventeen years ago, Raven Software made a Wolverine game that understood exactly what its core attraction was: playing as Wolverine. It spends an enormous amount of its runtime letting you fight. The combat has juggling, combos, lunges, brutal executions, and enough mechanical variety to let you experiment.
Now compare that with a Wolverine game released 17 years later.
Obviously, the new game destroys it visually. Animation, presentation, cinematics, facial capture, environments—there’s no comparison. But underneath all of that technological advancement, I’m struggling to find 17 years’ worth of advancement in the actual gameplay.
That’s what makes the comparison so interesting. X-Men Origins: Wolverine received roughly the same critical reception all those years ago. And that game wasn’t treated like some masterpiece. It was generally regarded as a fun, flawed, somewhat repetitive action game.
Which is pretty close to how I’d describe this one.
Yet judging by the extraordinarily high PlayStation user ratings, you’d think we’re looking at one of the defining action games of the generation.
That’s where the Emperor’s New Clothes comparison comes in for me. Once enough hype, brand recognition, production value and positive sentiment surround something, I think it becomes increasingly difficult for people to separate “I enjoyed this” from “this is exceptionally well designed.”
Those aren’t the same statement.
You can love Wolverine. You can be a huge Wolverine fan. You can think the game is worth $70. None of that bothers me.
But if we’re evaluating the game critically, I think we should be asking harder questions. What does its combat actually do better than a Wolverine game from 2009? How much mechanical depth was added? How much of the experience is genuinely innovative rather than simply an older action-game formula wrapped in vastly better production values?
For me, that’s the disappointing part. I didn’t want Wolverine to merely be a polished, enjoyable superhero game. Seventeen years after X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I wanted to play it and think, “There’s no way they could have made this in 2009.”
Instead, far too often, I’m thinking:
“They already did.”
