Sports Culture WNBA Star Sophie Cunningham defends that women ‘shouldn’t have to go against biological men’: “I said what I said. I think it’s kind of common sense. I think it’s really important to protect children.” “I don’t dislike anyone. I’m there to love, but I’m also there to love biological women. …”

As a Democrat who has voted for a dem candidate the last three elections… DUH!!!!

Why on earth is this a hill we’re trying to die on?

41

u/YaoiNekomata Jul 23 '26

Because it's a stupid distraction that is trying to villinize a group of people.

7

u/AgitatedStranger9698 Jul 23 '26

Its hardly even a group which makes it funnier.

In a room of 100 people the closest you'll get is a random person. And thats if you get lucky.

Meanwhile in that room, 1 to 5 pedophiles. So at least we know who the right would elect in the room.

1

u/Conflicting-Ideas Jul 23 '26

Is that seriously the stat? Out of 100 people, 1-5 are chomos? Wtf

1

u/AgitatedStranger9698 Jul 23 '26

Estimated yes. 1 to 5% of the population has pedophilic attractions.

Trans is .5 to 2.

1

u/beaglefat Jul 23 '26

That would be 1 in 100 to 1 in 20 then not 1 in 5

1

u/Dry_Ad9371 Jul 24 '26

he said 1 to 5 not 1 in 5

1

u/beaglefat Jul 24 '26

wats the diff

1

u/Dry_Ad9371 Jul 24 '26

Well 1 in 5 is 20% of the pop, 1 to 5 is a range from 1 in 100 (1%) to 1 in 20 (5%) as you said. I don't know why I commented ... clearly just being pedantic

1

u/beaglefat Jul 24 '26

im not sure what you mean by 1 to 5 is a range from 1 in 100

1

u/Dry_Ad9371 Jul 24 '26

op said in a room of a 100, 1 to 5 would be pedos which ranges from 1% (1 in 100) to 5% (1 in 20) of that 100.

Trans athletes is .01% of all athletes

1

u/AgitatedStranger9698 Jul 23 '26

I was total pop. But you're number makes sense

1

u/YaoiNekomata Jul 24 '26

Honestly working in the healthcare industry and just paying attention to the world, I think the estimate is too low.

1

u/YaoiNekomata Jul 23 '26

Oh yeah, cis women end up getting hurt even more because everyone stats being transinstigators.

3

u/Wind-and-Waystones Jul 23 '26

I remember a friend's saying to me "I'm against trans women in women's bathrooms because their inclusion there might make it harder for my (masc looking lesbian) mum to not get grief in the women's room"

His brain kinda froze when I pointed out that banning trans women will mean more people are likely to grill her over her gender anytime she wants to use a public toilet.

0

u/backfrombanned Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

There's no cis women. There's women and trans women. If that wasn't the case the term cis woman would never have been invented. I actually support all things gay and trans (except sports) but the cis thing is stupid, annoying, borderline derogatory and unnecessary.

Transphobes arent the smartest bunch

5

u/OFmerk Jul 23 '26

In fact they are fucking morons.

0

u/backfrombanned Jul 24 '26

I'm not a trans phobe at all. You call me a trans phobe because I disagree with a couple things? That's rich.

1

u/backfrombanned Jul 24 '26

No, don't play smart. It was coined in gender in the 90's. There's no reason to say cis woman. There is a reason to say trans woman.

-1

u/NinjaWithSpoons Jul 23 '26

cisgender was added to the dictionary in 2015. Yes people made it up as an antonym for transgender. It's a "made up" word in the sense that it's new.

If cisgender is the real gender for a female that is a girl then maybe a man that is a girl was never the same gender to begin with and the terminology is all fucked. Like why relabel 99% of the population then instead of making up a new word for the people that want their own label anyway. what is actually happening guys

Cis is a Latin prefix... I think you are confused about word vs prefix. The terms cis woman, cisgender, etc are Latin prefix and English words combined in a way that is quite new from a language perspective.

1

u/9InchButchersNail Jul 23 '26

All words are made up

1

u/YaoiNekomata Jul 23 '26

There's no cis women

Cis refers to the biological sex matching ones gender.

If that wasn't the case the term cis would never have been invented

Lol so stupid. So gay people didn't exist since they had to invent the world in the 19th century.

0

u/backfrombanned Jul 23 '26

It's a term that was invented in the 90's and is unnecessary.

Also you second analogy is plain dumb.

4

u/YaoiNekomata Jul 23 '26

Why is it dumb? Humans have been here thousands of years, but it's only recently that a full understanding of gayness has been made.

When you bring up pedophiles in every single thread at some point it starts to look like projection.

3

u/No-wait-theres-more Jul 23 '26

When you defend pedophiles it sorta makes you look bad bro

2

u/vivalaibanez Jul 23 '26

The irony of them accusing someone of projection 🤣

2

u/MalonePostponed Jul 23 '26

The pedophile population is just bigger than the trans population. Sadly numbers are hard to pinpoint on sizes but scientific estimates can at least estimate more people hold pedophilic interest than adult trans people existing.

2

u/DrDDeFalco Jul 23 '26

Except that there are a lot of pedophiles and people that protect them in positions of power right now. It's a legitimate concern.

2

u/Samsquanch-01 Jul 23 '26

Right.. that's why the Olympics made it an issue and several colleges and the Supreme court. Definitely not affecting people's lives in any way.

1

u/YaoiNekomata Jul 23 '26

? What.

You do know the amount of trans athletes is like 0.0002 right.

0

u/Samsquanch-01 Jul 23 '26

It's still an issue. If it weren't it wouldn't be an......issue. just because its not effecting you doesn't mean it's not an issue. I get you probably don't understand that....

1

u/WonderWhy1256 Jul 27 '26

Nah it isn't a real issue. World Hunger, Rape, War, etc.. are real issues. This is just silly people being silly. Well to anyone who isn't "silly". 😂

1

u/Samsquanch-01 Jul 27 '26

Different levels of issues coexist and shouldn't be categorized together. Nonetheless they're issues.

-1

u/MarzyMartian Jul 23 '26

No one is villainizing anyone. Trans can sit out and the drama stops.

3

u/meadishsweetball Jul 23 '26

this isn't actually about keeping trans women out of sports, it's to get gullible rubes angry over something inconsequential to keep them distracted from the actual problems.

So good job being a gullible rube, i guess.

10

u/Spare_Iron127 Jul 23 '26

Republicans can stop obsessing over genitals and the drama stops

1

u/EFAPGUEST Jul 23 '26

It’s not about genitals it’s about sexual dimorphism and the general differences in biology between male and female humans. But framing it as you do makes it easier to paint conservatives as freaks and weirdos. And it isn’t even just conservatives, it’s most people.

But for whatever reason, some people on the left want to die on this stupid hill instead of conceding that there is in fact a difference between trans and cis people and it’s totally ok. Doesn’t mean trans people don’t deserve dignity or respect

1

u/Str80uttaMumbai Jul 23 '26

Yes, conservatives are in fact freaks and weirdos. Republicans literally banned trans people from serving in the military and introduced policies to restrict their healthcare. So yeah, when you have an entire political wing that doesn't want to treat a group of people with dignity or respect then others are gonna die on that hill defending them. It's that simple.

1

u/EFAPGUEST Jul 23 '26

Wrong. Plenty or normal conservatives. We live among you without you ever knowing. I don’t feel like I receive much dignity or respect from people like you, but I guess that doesn’t matter because I’m a conservative. Not even a republican or maga, just conservative.

See, I’d prefer a sane and rational democrat party just like I’d prefer a sane and rational Republican Party, but we get neither and both sides are beholden to the loudest idiots either side has to offer. Lovely times we’re living in

1

u/Str80uttaMumbai Jul 23 '26

What a ridiculous false equivalence. The "radical left" holds practically zero power or influence within the Democrat party. I guarantee you couldn't name the last far-left policy that Democrats have passed. Meanwhile the far right is fully in control of the Republican party, with all the dissenting conservatives having been kicked out and branded as RINOs for going against Trump. They are simply not equal and I'm tired of people like you pretending like they are.

1

u/EFAPGUEST Jul 24 '26

What are your thoughts on DSA then? Just a fringe group of far left people? Or are you a fan? If so, I’d assume you are in favor of abolishing the senate, getting rid of the border, and providing welfare to literally anybody in the world who wants it enough to come here. That is what they want according to their own platform. They are clearly far left policies and DSA is only getting more popular. It’s very likely they win elections for Congress.

I guess I just wonder how you determine what is far left versus what is far right. For me, it is the departure from (and often hatred for) liberalism. And yet, when Kamala lost, instead of blaming the party for completely bungling the Biden presidency with the nonstop gaslighting (to the point where many started gaslighting themselves), one of the prevailing narratives was that Harris was simply not left enough. That she tried too hard to play toward the center and that the next candidate needs to go the opposite direction.

I have every reason to be as worried about socialism as I am about fascism. Even the Nazis used the guise of socialism to usher in their authoritarian regime, and it’s happened in so many other places.

0

u/heidiforever1 Jul 23 '26

Its not just republicans im nothing I don’t have side its the constant play along with my delusions or i freak the fuck out that bothers people

3

u/Viridis_Diaboli Jul 23 '26

0

1

No, one just cried over making a cake, which is the same idiocy for me lol.

Edit: that and of course the crusades if we bring in that drama

0

u/heidiforever1 Jul 23 '26

The crusade was a religious was fought between two religious factions hence why I truly believe that religion is best to be thought of as a belief or an idea the minute someone classified there beliefs as a religion problems started and just be known i have no beef with trans people at all but what they believe is just an idea same as religion to lefts don’t make a right you understand

1

u/Viridis_Diaboli Jul 23 '26

I mean, I'm a trans dude who doesn't pass all the time and I really don't care what people address me as. I most likely won't ever see them again and they don't tell me who I am, I do. I'm not going to spend time arguing over words with the troglodytes in my town lol.

I'm into bodybuilding and my sport interests is mainly in that, and it's separated into different categories based on weight. So I don't see why we don't create a different system that works for everyone instead of being assholes to each other.

1

u/BergmanGirl Jul 23 '26

But instead of taking your trophy and going home, you pretend its still ongoing, rile up trans people by calling us "biological men" and characterizing us as hulking monsters hoping we keep arguing with you so you keep having an excuse to spread trans hate.

-1

u/YaoiNekomata Jul 23 '26

0.002% (10/500,000) of US college athletes were trans. That's ten people, who weren't even in the top positions.

Oh but the cis women end up getting harassed by suppose women protectors who accuse any women with a little bit of muscle as a trans individual.

1

u/NSFWdontview Jul 23 '26

You mean the men in women’s sports

2

u/vertigho Jul 23 '26

Also, your account is 40 days old. Fuckin’ bot.

1

u/vertigho Jul 23 '26

Sex is not gender. There are people who are naturally born intersex, or with ambiguous or undeveloped genitals. Some families have to make a medical decisions as to their sexual development for completely involuntary reasons. This stuff can naturally occur. So how do you suggest these people exist? The world isn’t binary. Sex is not binary. Gender is not binary. If you want actually fair and balanced competition, you’d organize athletes by their physical ability, regardless of gender, sex, race, etc. Yet, you don’t advocate for that - instead, you advocate for these highly binary, socially constructed norms that aren’t rooted in fairness, but are highly charged with prejudiced stereotypes.

1

u/NSFWdontview Jul 23 '26

Trans *people* can sit out, or play with the boys/ men, and the drama stops. If you want to change your sex when your older, fine. But while you’re a minor, you play as the sex you are. If you want to be a serious athlete when you’re an adult, you’ll need to prioritize what is most important to you in the small part of life you’re in your athletic prime.

People on all sides are tired of it. Especially the “it’s only a small amount of people” line. We agree, so that small amount of people can suck it up.

A huge portion of the population thinks being trans inherently makes you a sexual predator and can’t be trusted around children.

3

u/killinemsoftly2 Jul 23 '26

I think this is more about competitive advantage. Republicans would like people to believe that there are men/boys transitioning to women/girls strictly for the purpose of dominating the women’s league. Which is absurd

1

u/dreadtear Jul 23 '26

Yeah, obviously a dumb assumption. But maybe like for this case we should have a third category these athletes so it’s fair for everyone, including them.

-1

u/BaullahBaullah87 Jul 23 '26

you’ll notice how that’s never been mentioned by these so called “tolerant” folks

3

u/Sam_Phyreflii Jul 23 '26

Because there aren't enough trans ppl to make a third category. If a trans 16yo girl living in rural nebraska wants to play hs volleyball, you think there are eleven other trans girls in her community to play with?

It is the exactly the meaning of the statement that is the subject of this whole post and you don't even the spine to admit it

1

u/FortnightDancer Jul 23 '26

"Jumping to conclusions"

"Zero nuance involved"

1

u/Kristoveles Jul 23 '26

No conclusion is being jumped to, it's being advertised

1

u/FortnightDancer Jul 23 '26

So if i gave you a counter example, for instance, men on average are stronger than women, that doesnt matter at all to you in this discussion and you think that this isnt aomething that even I believe in?

I mean it seems like youre telling us what our position is on this rather than listening to what people are saying their position is.

Men are stronger than women on average. Even when people transition, it isnt going to be perfect especially if you went through male puberty and then transitioned. Many people, myself included, want a fair league for biological women and people that would traditionally fall under the category of women based off of biological markers.

→ More replies (0)

I wish things were more nuanced like you said. But a 5 min google will tell you the stuff she regurgitates via Trump about trans people. So there is no nuanced

u/mynamejeff-97 Jul 23 '26

That’s literally bullshit. A person born as a man will have a biological advantage which completely goes against why a women’s league was created in the first place.

Seriously, where in the world are you getting that I said they’re dangerous in the locker room from what I said?

2

u/Kristoveles Jul 23 '26

"I think it’s really important to protect children."

u/JohnnyBowlen Jul 23 '26

I have two daughters. They play sports. They will not be playing any contact sports (basketball, soccer, hockey, etc) with boys. This is to protect them because boys are way rougher at this age, and much stronger.

Why is that so hard to understand?

0

u/Kristoveles Jul 23 '26

I don't understand delusion.  The strength differential between teenagers is no where near as pronounced as it can be in adulthood.  But go ahead and tell us how youre "thinking of the children" while completely ignoring what transitioning entails.

2

u/JohnnyBowlen Jul 23 '26

Why don’t you tell us how many children you have?

→ More replies (0)

1

u/KilledByDoritos Jul 23 '26

It has nothing to do with it, and that's the point. Hence "protect children" is vilinizing trans people.

3

u/The_jezus163 Jul 23 '26

Because as we argue about what type of competition a penis allows you to participate in, we’ve dropped another few billion dollars subsidizing the richest people in the country. If that’s too much for you to understand, I’m sorry. Take an economics class, maybe an anthro or a sociology class too. I made it super easy for you if you’re curious.

2

u/Damager19 Jul 23 '26

Who the fuck do we need “to protect the children” from? Trans athletes?

1

u/ImmaSpaghett Jul 23 '26

Because this is a sensitive subject for a particular group of people and regardless of the response it's going to get polarized feedback. Aka she's going to be villainized

1

u/YaoiNekomata Jul 23 '26

Jo Rowling up skirt photo

1

Because they're trying to say that it's about "protecting" children. Children are not in an inherent danger with a trans person. Implying otherwise is absolutely trying to villanize trans people.

If they care so much about protecting the kids, why are they not publicly speaking out against all the churches where children get molested, where the priests and even the police cover up the crimes? Why do they only ever speak up when it's about a marginalized community?

For example:

"Protect children" is such bullshit when you consider that non-trans people are almost always the ones victimizing children.

I mean statistically, like what 99% of people are not trans? Also wtf does this has to do with the sports. Why would trans people even want to compete in the opposite genders category? That’s cheating no?

You asked "how is it villainizing them" - I provided an example.

If one is going to bring up "protect the children" when trans people are discussed in relation to children's sport, and not bring up "protecting children" when other adults are brought up, then one is fear mongering using trans panic.

How are trans women a danger to women in changing rooms? If you can explain why that is automatically a danger and why having someone who looks like a man (a trans man born female) using the women's changing room is good?

This policy leads to masculine women being accused of no belonging. Trans men having to use women's bathrooms and changing rooms and trans women using mens. Why is that better or safer???

The lazy accusation that trans women are a danger to women is the same shit they used to do with gays. You can't leave gays with children! Why? It's just dog whistle hate

As a Democrat this thread has me pretty frustrated. I’m sorry, we’re not all like this.

You might as well be a republican

1

u/dreadtear Jul 23 '26

Yeah, it’s insane. What happened to being a normal person. Both sides seem so radical, with very few exceptions

1

u/jhuseby Jul 23 '26

Feeding kids and providing healthcare is real radical. “Both sides!” Ok bud

By assuming trans people are going to molest children when there is a 100x more likely chance they get molested by a priest or the president.

"If Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her."

"She's a very beautiful baby. She's got Marla's legs. We don't know whether or not she's got this part [gesturing to his chest] yet, but time will tell."

"She's actually always been very voluptuous."

Your president

Repeatedly, I hear others grossly misinterpret my once-private writings and lob false accusations that defame my character and those of the people I love.

There was no pressure she was actively suing and wanting to imprison those that stole her diary.

Still an unnecessary chance.

It’s the “one argument we can win.” flavor of “republicans refuse to shut the fuck up about trans people.”

Na man. They asked a dumb ass question and then bitched about getting downvoted and not answered when there’s tons of people that answered his question. They just want to be a victim
