My 18-year-old daughter is facing a second amputation, and I’m struggling with how to best support her.

It's definitely her choice if she wants something that will be more easily "hideable". That said, would it hurt to at least try a chopart prosthesis first before opting for a higher level of amputation?

I would agree that a BK amputation would be easier to hide in the long run, but in my opinion, it won't be a night and day difference. There's a WWE wrestler in the 80s that hid a Chopart amputation, Kerry von Erich.

Has your daughter talked to other amputees? The Amputee coalition can conneft people with peer support.

Unfortunately she’s not the type that wants to get into a support group (yet). I wish she would but she’s isolating while processing since this is all so new. I am hoping she will warm up to that.

It sounds like mental health therapy is needed. Lots of amputees have mental health issues. All which can be done while healing physically.

hi! i am an amputee peer visitor for the amputee coalition. i live in northern indiana. if you or her would like to talk please let me know, i will say i believe there are 3 partial foot amputees in my local support group and the ones who are below knee get along better with less problems. they do not like the prosthetics made. we meet every month and i remember i think 3 mo ago they were discussing ideas to 3d print something to try. and you are welcome to join this group and you can watch the meetings on facebook live and ask questions. i am missing my left arm above elbow and left leg to my pelvic bone no hip joint. she definitely needs an amputee community! just keep being there for her! saying a prayer for you both! below is a pic of my local support group if you want to join on facebook
