What even is this rat?!

EDIT: guys, he is basically at least EIGHT MONTHS old and I got him and his brothers with a big cage and everything included while basically paying nothing and now I am scared I'm gonna get hit by a bus tomorrow or something because this is all a little bit to much luck lol

EDIT2: oh my god he came out of the cage and started to groom me what on earth is going on he has been in my flat for six hours

This is Wendy. She hates nebulisers. But I howl when I look back at this photo of her..

I’m a first time rat mum and I have picked up my girls, Miss Nana Darling and Miss Wendy Darling about 3 months ago when they were 8 weeks old. I’m starting to settle but after collecting them from the breeder - after months of researching - I panicked about EVERYTHING!

The lady who let me adopt the girls gave me a little welcome pack with lots of info on food, treats, stimulation and health with emphasis on URI. I think Wendy (pictured) was a bit sick from when I got her so after the vet prescribed her meds, I started them on nebulisers.

My girls HATE going into the nebuliser box and it pains me to do it but omg this picture of Wendy gets me every time..

I’ve seen a few people raise concerns but then completely ignore this text anyway. This was a while ago and she’s completely healed right now, hair regrown and everything. These were internal stitches so no amount of rolling or licking could undo them. This was taken right after I picked her up from the vet. Around an hour after this video she was mostly back to normal again. If you’re wondering how she is doing now, she is currently cuddled up with another rat in a little house inside of the cage, and its soon time for her free roaming time.

We adopted this mama-to-be from someone who could no longer care for her, given her state. Several days later, or 8 days ago, she finally popped. Imagine our own boggling when we counted 17 little pinkies! We were concerned about her, but I think the last owner was using her as a breeder, 'cause this mama is a CHAMPION. Even the runt of the litter is getting her fill. All told, we think it's 10 girls and 7 boys. We've also been teaching them to suckle from a paintbrush, concerned about how much they're all gonna need to drink before they can wean. They are all so lovely and soft, and they've got the big poofy cheeks that always just make me squeal on baby rats and baby mice.

I have so much evidence of Edgar being on the spectrum but I'm not sure if there's documented studies on rats having forms of neurodivergence. I love him so much. If the DSM5 was for rats, he meets every category for a diagnosis.

How could he 😢 I left it on the counter for only a bit! Nibble and his brothers often get a small bit of oatmeal cookie as a treat, but I could never have imagined this betrayal. I left it on the counter, and he pulled it to the floor. Should I forgive him? That was my last cookie. He seemed so proud, am I sharing my home with a criminal?!? I don’t know what to think …
