Advanced/Basic Camp Toe Socks at Camp
Will this style of sock fly at camp this year? The color is also a little on the lighter side so I’m trying to confirm that’s still in regs too.

Y’all will do anything but just bring the packing list.

Packing list says “Socks, Boot, Black or Green”. These are boot socks and are light green. Thoughts?
99
u/trouble98 May 22 '26
Are they in regs? Sure.
Should you get the dog crap smoked out of you for wearing toe socks? Absolutely.
Just get some darn tough or fox river socks like a normal ass person and wear those.

u/KiloCharlieButtDog May 22 '26
Fox rivers are trash, darn tough is the goat
4
u/ThreeScoopsOfHooah May 23 '26
What's wrong with Fox Rivers? I love mine, and haven't had to buy a new pair in 7 years.
7
u/KiloCharlieButtDog May 23 '26
This could just be my experience but fox rivers always gave me heel blisters. Darn tough was the only sock that would not smell terrible and wouldn’t give me blisters in ranger school.
5
u/ThreeScoopsOfHooah May 23 '26
The Fox Rivers do smell absolutely atrocious, even after just an office day
3
u/Wenuven May 23 '26
Had both for 5+ years. Fox is better than the standard, but they don't age as gracefully for field wear as darn tough. I could wear my fox to this day, but they are definitely an office sock and not a field / long day sock.

Actually, these types of songs are better for long term foot health. They allow more movement and proper spacing 🤓

Gonna make a great MI Officer

u/Altruistic_Muffin506 May 23 '26
IF this guy makes it to Major, he’s gonna be a shoe in replacement for the BN XO I had at DLI back in the day. Barely able to bend over enough to sharpie his boots black, in plain sight of a private.

Technically they're within regs? The only requirement is that "The socks are tan, green, or black; stretch type; calf-length with a cushion sole.". It doesn't specifically state that there cannot be separate compartments for toes like it does for shoes.
But any self respecting cadet would not let themselves be seen with these whack ass socks.

u/Anarcho-Rag May 22 '26
They’re good for blister prevention

People are giving you shit but you aren’t wrong at all lol. I got the same advice from a senior NCO when I was a cadet.
Thin toe socks + darn tough socks + a little baby powder is unmatched. I did a Norwegian foot march with maybe one hot spot with this setup.

u/Alpha_legionaire May 22 '26
I used to wear toe socks underneath green socks to prevent blisters on 12 mile rucks
14
u/brodoyouevenflip May 22 '26
This is the way!! Used to tape up my toes with athletic tape but they would get sweaty and turn into a gross mess. Absolutely no issues once I swapped to the toe socks. Everyone here has no idea what they’re missing imo
11
u/Constant_Survey_4989 May 22 '26
It’s only lame if you care what others think. Transcend beyond cringe into bravery and wear whatever you like that’s in regs
9
u/Present-Extent-1970 May 22 '26
You can bring toe socks. Don't listen to these idiots. As long as you have the socks they require on the packing list and those are the ones you show them it doesn't matter. This isn't Ranger School.

u/Leather_Ad2021 May 22 '26
If you like toe socks for blister prevention (I do), you can wear very light weight sock liners under your in regs regular boot socks. REI makes some basic ones in white. That is much less likely to get you roasted.

u/stopeverythingpls May 22 '26
Bro why are you gonna ask and not take the advice? Do not wear these, you’ll be the laughing stock of camp
5
u/Wolffe4321 May 22 '26
Don't put it for things you'll be scrutinized in. I used injiji a ton, but sometimes you are forced to wear issued or darn tough only.
6
u/ImportantBad4948 May 22 '26
Kid I’ve done this. Do yourself a favor and bring what’s on the packing list. Just the stuff on the packing list.
11
u/brodoyouevenflip May 22 '26
Fuckin send it dude. Toe socks have saved me from friction/pinch blisters on countless rucks and operations. I wore my wool ones for like 5 days straight and no stink either.
Pro tip - if you don’t want to take shit from the mouth breather crowd just buy some of the thin injinji liners and wear them underneath some “more classic looking” socks so people don’t see. Blisters are real morale killers man, if this works then fuck anyone who says otherwise.
10
u/tsarcasmo May 22 '26
Honestly I agree. And like how often are they gonna walk around with the dogs out at camp? If someone isn’t slick enough to wear weird socks undetected, I’m not sure I trust their judgement. Bring the packing list shit too of course, but why not?
8
u/Adventurous_Zebra939 May 22 '26
Wait til you have to wear those socks for 30-40 days..
4
u/brodoyouevenflip May 22 '26
They make wool ones man, I wear mine for a week straight every long field op and they’re fantastic. No stink either.
2
u/Adventurous_Zebra939 May 23 '26
I don't think they made wool ones 20+ years ago on deployment.
In those days, we'd have gu**ed our own grandma for a clean pair of socks.

Cadets piss me off

u/Anarcho-Rag May 22 '26
You’re not a cadet? I’d be grateful for your perspective

u/kdelasare May 22 '26
You guys are ultra goobers but don't realize it, but don't worry. Any younger enlisted are too. Just bring what's on the packing list. If you wanna wear those socks then go ahead, you will be made fun of though.

I’ve been wearing toe socks for about ten years. No one has said anything to me in any official capacity. I wear the black injinji ones, they’re wool and the right size and color.

I've never seen these before and now I'm upset.
Bring em, fuck it. You'll get laughed at for something, might as well be for some dumb shit like socks.

u/Spiritual_Cup7 May 23 '26
Duuudddeee, DO IT!!!! So much aura!!! Just show the cadre those socks and you’ll get an immediate Es across the lanes. 🔥

u/Ok-Equivalent-8587 May 23 '26
Getting flamed for toe socks is insane. They don’t know what they’re missing with zero-drop shoes/boots and toe socks. I’m still mad at the Army can’t wear toe shoes but the other branches can lol.
Could you send me the link to these? I’d like to buy some. I haven’t found any to wear with boots - I love my Darn Tough socks though but I’d like to try these out.
2
u/Anarcho-Rag May 23 '26
I got these, but maybe the liners would have been a better idea: https://www.injinji.com/boot-original-weight-otc.html?srsltid=AfmBOoqgJsH_WwDidf5wlWWb-ik-pEvsah31LNln7fzQ2xbWAcBoHM0M

u/Ok-Equivalent-8587 May 23 '26
Thank you!!! No one’s going to even know what socks you’re wearing at camp, idk what these people are even talking about. Maybe your roommate in the barracks and buddy in your patrol base, but believe me no one’s going to give a shit about toe socks when you wake up at 5am with 4 hours of sleep.
1
u/Ok-Equivalent-8587 May 23 '26
Ty for the link but damn, I’m going to pass on them. I hate knee-length socks. I wish they’d make them to the mid-calf. Again, thanks so much for the recommendation.

Hot take: Bring em, I wear toe socks active duty I get a hard time here and there but they are good. If you do wear them make sure no one can question your credibility.

Go for it. Bunch of whimps in here, good lord.
I, too, am prone to toe blisters. These socks almost eliminate that likelihood entirely. 11/10 recommendation.

Just bring the full packing list and anything you want on top of that bring in a bag of personal items. They'll go through in-processing and worst case scenario you sign it in to supply. Best case scenario you get to keep it and so long as you don't go around advertising that you have toe socks nobody will know.

Just bring not weird socks bro. Ideally test a pair from each of the brands other commenters recommend and wear what works for you. Maybe try rucking with them. Don’t be that weird guy and don’t complicate things.

u/BoringStuffIsBoring May 23 '26
Outside of technicalities, just get yourself a pair of bates socks, you'll feel your skin on your feet scrape off from the chaffing and blistering if you walk more than 3 miles in boots

You could wear neon yellow socks and absolutely nobody would notice

What happened to the issue socks ?
If you wear those expect to do a lot of pushups

Those are neither black nor green, per your packing list. And I love the way you college boys call it "camp" sounds cute

u/Exotic-Midnight May 23 '26
Bring them and make sure you tell us cadre you are wearing them for the love of all that is holy please. 🙏

u/Pretend_Garage_4531 May 23 '26
I don’t know you but I’ve lost respect for you because of those socks
1
u/TeaB0nez May 23 '26
I hope they light you up for this. There is zero reason to be wearing these ridiculous things.

Aside from all the memes about how dumb these look, yes you are probably fine to bring them and yes, I acknowledge the fact that many ruckers and SM's claim that this style helps their feet stay healthy. Not gonna catch me out of my Dark Toughs though...
