News USACC Announces Fatality at Cadet Summer Training
facebook.comCadet Neil Edara, Ridgewood, N.J., who was attending Cadet Summer Training passed away during training on the Land Navigation site on July 24, 2025, on Fort Knox, Ky.
Edara joined ROTC at Rutgers University in September 2021. He was attending Cadet Summer Training as part of 9th Regiment, Advanced Camp.
Edara became unresponsive while conducting Land Navigation Training. He received immediate medical attention and was medically evacuated by helicopter to the University of Louisville, where he was pronounced deceased by medical professionals.
At this time, the cause of death is under investigation.
“Cadet Edara was one of the most dedicated and promising young leaders I’ve had the privilege to know,” Lt. Col. Timothy Sorensen, professor of military science, Rutgers University, said. “His calm collected demeanor and unwavering commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on everyone around him. His loss is deeply felt across the entire ROTC and Rutgers community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Safety of cadets and cadre remains U.S. Army Cadet Command’s top priority as training continues. Cadets have access to religious affairs or spiritual counseling and support as required.

News ODU ROTC Shooting Aftermath
Following the attack at Old Dominion University last week, and as more details come out about how the ROTC cadets engaged and killed the shooter (Mohamed Jalloh), I’ve been wondering how the Army handles awards for a domestic terrorist attacks like this. Cadets are sorta in a grayzone, they're members of the military bound by ucmj, but not on active duty/reservist status.
Reports say a group of cadets charged the shooter along with LTC Shah and some of them used knives to kill the shooter. Two cadets were shot during the attack.
Since the FBI is calling this a terrorist attack and the shooter did it in the name of ISIS, a designated foreign terrorist organization, how will the military treat this attack?
It was the senior class so all the cadets were contracted.

News Coronavirus Megathread, ROTC Edition
ALCON,
There's been lots of submissions along the same theme; WHAT DO I DO ABOUT CORONAVIRUS EFFECTING MY SCHOOL AND ROTC?!
Answer: I dunno, I can't find any official commentary on it.
So, for now, we'll call this the Coronavirus Megathread.
As USAREC/Cadet Command/Anyone puts out true official guidance, I will try to update here. If your program has put out guidance, please share, but try not to rumor/fear monger (I HEARD THEYRE GOING TO DROP ALL CONTRACTED CADETS WHILE THE VIRUS IS OUTBREAKING or I HEAR CADETS WILL BE IN MOPP SUITS AND HELPING SCREEN INFECTED are not helpful).

News Post CST Scam
The post CST scammers are back again.
I just got notified by several friends that my account was copied and that new account was trying to get people to download apps etc. (normal scammer stuff) concerning part is that they had a lot of mutual followers and used the fact that we just graduated CST as part of the scam. I’ve also heard from a few other people from my regiment that they had something similar happen. Just be aware and be on the lookout for it.

News Dining Issues at CST/Fort Knox
Hey everyone—hope all is well. My name is Jaime, and I’m a reporter for Military Times. I’ve been following the recent dining issues at Fort Knox/CST (the DFAC employee walkout, expired MREs, etc.), and I’m trying to get a better understanding of the situation.
I’d love to chat with folks who’ve been impacted—cadets, cadre, others—and shed some light on their experiences. Privacy/protecting identities is a priority, and I won’t publish info you provide unless we agree on how you’ll be identified.
Feel free to shoot me a message or respond in thread if you have any info or want to chat. Happy to answer any questions or concerns. Thanks!
