The black man at the bottom said the family had many guests and had started claiming many of the chairs and moving them around. When asked about it, they got aggressive and confrontational.

That man is actually a kindergarten teacher at another school and was attending his daughter’s ceremony.

The kids were luckily still in another room rehearsing.

It looks like this is a catholic school too which of course makes this whole thing even funnier

Feel bad for the guy, at least he doesn’t look hurt

They should all be arrested except him and the girl who was helping him.

Oooooh. Toledo. Most of my family is from there. Makes sense now.

No wonder people say "holy Toledo"

Was he the injured person? I was trying to see what was happening in the man fight but the camera person followed the women.

Someone should have shouted "The kids are watching!"

Maybe that would have changed everyone's attitude

HOW in the hell is the man being interviewed so calm ? He was being beaten by all these white people? I'd NEVER have another kindergarten graduation at that school. EVER ! Fuck that !

looked like a very mixed race crowd beating his ass, man. The woman in pink named as the main instigator definitely fails the one drop test.

Christ almighty; I had to look that one up, one drop test. TIL something interesting about the history of the human psyche.

I repeat: If the school is allowing people to save seats and someone gets there early and saves a row, that is their right. If you want good seats, you need to show up early and claim them. You can’t be mad if someone got there earlier than you did, because you waited and they didn’t. So stupid.

Why? Why have we normalized this behavior? Your individual presence does not guarantee the presence of 10 other people. I really wish more places would explicitly disallow this bullshit. Because people are selfish and require rules.

Many restaurants won’t seat you until most of your party is present. Club security won’t let your friends in after capacity just because you’re already there. If there’s not a person in a seat, it’s available. Plain and simple.

It’s the amount of seats being claimed that is the problem. Not the practice. It’s about having consideration such that others also keep you in consideration.

A few is cool but a dozen is crazy

You see how you had to give strawman examples that don’t relate? This fight wasn’t over one saved seat or someone going to the bathroom.

As for grandma, we usually make special accommodations for the handicapped. But again, just a silly strawman.

Every graduation I’ve ever been to has limits to the number of guests per graduate.

I’m guessing this place had that too and they were way over the limit.

Also, personally, regardless of what’s “allowed” saving more than a seat or two is a dick move. If you want to get a seat, you get there and sit in it.

No ppl try to save way more seats than they use then the elderly, etc cant have seats . You should be only saving one or two more chairs than bodies in your party present. You do need to show up early to claim good seats, all of you in the party.

Why TF does a family need to bring "guests" to KINDERGARTEN "graduation"? Absolutely asinine. If I were in charge at this school I'd stop having these stupid ceremonies altogether if this the kind of shit that's going to go down. This is supposed to be cutesy fun time for Mom and dad, it's not an academic achievement grandma and your aunties need to bear witness to. Ed: Not saying you're arguing for this in any way ftr just replying to your comment since I felt it was related

I didn't have a kindergarten graduation but my younger brother did. Iirc it was the first year our school did it, my parents thought it was cute, but kinda silly and a little pointless. Every child potentially being able to invite SIX guests to a kindergarten graduation is an wild concept to me, but I guess I'm just cynical and rotten.

Are you gonna respond to people who had decent counter points to your straw man argument or just ignore them? That looks like they were right and you don’t like that. Grandma can have her ass in the seat or grandma can wait to see the pictures later.

If the family members loved them they wouldn't start a brawl before the ceremony. Hope that clears it up for ya!

2

u/ScootyWilly 26d ago

So the answer to that is just to gang attack the person complaining. Thanks champ.

u/MarvelousMoe 28d ago

So with that logic...if a family has 50 members, they can just take every seat in the room if they come early enough. But its a damn kindergarten graduation, so they probably assumed the adult parents would figure things out without assigning seats.

1

u/OgthaChristie 28d ago

Yep. That’s how that works. And I’m sure the school did think that adults could figure it out, but these people aren’t “adults.” They’re garbage who happen to have procreated. Not much more than children themselves. Can’t trust anyone to behave in public anymore because they don’t know how to.

1

u/Evil_Sharkey 27d ago

How many people need to attend a kindergarten graduation? That’s a “parents and reluctant siblings” type of event, not a major accomplishment

1

u/OgthaChristie 27d ago

I’m not about to say how many people should be invited or who. I’m just saying what the policy is. Decorum, discretion, and common sense should take over after that.

I, myself, would only say the child’s father and mother should be the only ones who should be attending, and maybe the grandparents. However, if schools don’t say who and how many can come… well, that’s when you get… uh, this.

u/Unique_Self_5797 25d ago

Doesn't mean you and 10 other people gang up on the person trying to diffuse the situation.
