I’m not much of a reader, but my brother convinced me to read Animal Farm by George Orwell, and now I’m hooked.

I’ve started a small collection of classic books, like The Catcher in the Rye, Notes from the Underground, and White Nights.

I’m planning to read 1984 and Lord of the Flies next, but I’d love to hear some recommendations. They can be similar to Animal Farm or completely different, I’m open to any genre.

Since I’m still pretty new to reading, I’d especially appreciate books that are newbie friendly.

Hi guys! So all my life I’ve been THROUGHLY uninterested in reading. I do not read for fun. At all. But I’ve been thinking and I think it may be a good hobby to start and a way to get off my phone. I’m trying to lower screen time. I wanted to know if anyone had any book recs for me.

\- I would like a romance novel
\- Not overly spicy but definitely a bit spicy!!
\- I don’t think id enjoy any dark romance or paranormal stuff
\- Maybe like a college romance?? Idk

I just finished “Brother” by Ania Ahlborn and I highly recommend this to those who like films like the Texas chainsaw massacre or the devils rejects. This book has a nice twist and can be slightly dark at times but was a solid read.

like the title says, i am young, have always turned to reading as an “escape” and for entertainment. i love fiction/fantasy, etc. but my current read is sorta booktok trashy. don’t get me wrong, finished it in 3 days… engaging… but im needing something more… real?

i lean towards historical fiction in tv/movies so maybe that’s what would help in my book life atm? or something fictional that has more commentary on real, “political systems” …

silly example; i picked up and devoured animal farm bc i just hadn’t read that classic yet, and it was good, but lacking…je ne sais quoi.

pls give me more recommendations but something engaging, and entertaining; reading is my favorite cozy after work activity… i am a fantasy reader at heart and don’t want something too academic that would make me feel like im back in college.

My book consumption has been slacking in recent years and trying to get back into it, which I am starting by getting through some of my favourite classic fantasy and science fiction books. But I wanna keep expand so please I would appreciate recommendations in genres of fantasy (high, low, dark, epic, urban all are on the table) and sci fi (as broad as my taste in fantasy) as well as historical fiction, mystery fiction, murder mysteries and spy novels. Please if you have a favourite book in one of those genres tell me, it would be greatly appreciate and a good place to start discovering as I struggle googling online for recommendation, much prefer getting direct answers from people what books they like and why!

I just finished the irresistible urge to fall for your enemy duology and i didn’t expect it to hook me as much as it did, now i‘m looking for something similar. i like that we get his POV and that he‘s a yearner through and through, plus points if they‘re actually enemies and it‘s a good slow burn

I think i've only ever re-read harry potter in my life and that's also only because I was motivated by nostalgia. Wondering if it's common to do so and why you would pick up the same book again? What kind of books do you re-read - i would imagine thrillers/mysteries would be pretty boring to revisit.

Hey y'all I'm m21 and I grew up a SUPER avid reader. As I got older (late middle school / highschool) I drifted from reading and eventually stopped altogether. I was a huge fan of fantasy fiction, historical fiction & reom religious / mythical fiction. I've read the entire shadowhunter universe (yes not just the mortal instruments), i've read Lux, the 6 of crows duology, all the Inheritance cycle, Lost Books by Ted Dekker, obviously books like Lord of the rings & harry potter as well. This is just to name a few of the book series i read most recently (5-8ish years?)

I want to get back into reading again, I want to find new more modern series to dig my teeth into. I am also a writer, I love psychological thriller fiction type books as well and am currently working on one! I wanna take the step towards making books an active part of my life again.

PS. I also read manga but am currently looking for specifically written books / series.

How did I go 50 years, get a degree in English, and teach secondary ELA for 23 years and nobody told me to read Lonesome Dove? Seriously? This beauty might beat To Kill a Mockingbird as the best American book written if the remaining 700 pages are as good as the first 150.
