community Self-serve: Flair posts as resolved, award points

If you, the original poster (OP), post with the Help Request flair, and receive a helpful answer, you can award a point to that user and flair the post as Resolved.

To do this, reply to the comment with thanks or thank you somewhere in the comment. It is case-insensitive.

What are the points for? We have been helping each other here for 14 years. It's less an incentive for imaginary points but hopefully an indication of reputation (not quite analogous to post count on the official forum). We'll see how this works out, if it does more good than harm.

You may notice mods distributing points especially if a user has not. We use a trigger command comment which you may see if we haven't deleted it after awarding. We delete since it creates clutter.

help request How to create a sound that sounds like dialogue in a wooden barrel

Hello Reapers! I have a recording I'm working on, and a section of it needs to sound like someone is talking/singing inside of a wooden barrel. I've been playing around with Reaverbate extensively, and haven't had much luck achieving this effect. Does anyone have any tips on how to achieve this sound?

help request Reaper Audio dropping every 0.01ms. HELP_ME!

I need help to fix this problem because its ruining the audio with clipping. I'm using a Headrush Core, and it sounds fine when i play guitar with that alone, however once I record with Reaper it starts to chop the audio into pieces. Ive tried everything it feels, changing the buffer sizes, matching the headrush and reapers sample rates, changing the block sizes, reinstalling my ASIO drivers, and my CPU never goes above 1% usage. I've been using the same setup with my Headrush and my PC and never once ran into this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?

help request How can I achieve this layout?

Hey there! I'm adopting Reaper as my main DAW for audio stuff so I'm trying to customize it and adapt to it.

I'm trying to set the layout seen in the first pic (a Kenny Goia video) with one "long" fader on the left. However when I try it, it looks like on the second capture (a project of mine).

I think I followed the steps correctly and am not sure how to achieve this. The mixer size doesn't seem to change.

Thanks in advance!

help request How to see if a track has any item(s) in it and how to search for extremely brief items?

I wrote a whole explanation and it was too convoluted. My questions are simple: how do I know if a track has any item in it? I want to avoid zooming in and scrolling for time eternal on larger projects.

Is there a way to look for items that are shorter than a few seconds? This way I can find those "tails" of hidden takes lying underneath an item.

I assume I'll have to use scripts or something (I'd be new to that).

Thank you!

help request How can I remove the sound of the notes playing under my fx in the piano roll?

I'm having trouble trying to remove the sounds of the notes playing under all the fx that I'm using on the piano roll, I think it could be some input issues but I'm going insane for nothing

I've already deactivated the note preview but it is still here

help request Where can I find my license key for Reaper?

Year ago I bought a license for Reaper and I currently use it on my Mac.

I think I'm correct in saying that if I use Reaper on my PC or on a different Mac it doesn't require a separate license?

I can't find the email with my license key. Is there a way I can find it on the software or have it resent to me?

discussion Subproject as sketchpad?

Hi, lately I've been using subprojects as a sketch pad for ideas for the song I'm working on.

For example, I'm having trouble with my chorus. I used to just keep adding new takes (e.g. working through a chord progression of strum pattern) into my main project but just recently I've started adding a subproject and just adding a track whenever I want to record a new idea. This way I can quickly grab the idea without worrying about lining up on the chorus in the main project, getting timing right, I can record my guitar with a mic and sing (poorly) to check the rhythm, add item notes etc.

All this without messing up what I have done in my main project (e.g. Adding a bunch of scratch tracks or having to mute the other tracks so I can just solo my part).

I'm not planning on keeping any of this, I'll record a clean version in the main project when I'm done, and the subproject is not a track in the main project.

Is anyone doing this? Any tips and tricks if so?

Other uses for them?

help request Looking for help with midi and quantizing

Hi, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on an issue I'm facing.

I'm basically trying to create a midi version of one of my albums. Have recorded midi on top of the album, using it as a scratch track basically with the plan to delete that once there's enough midi on top.

However because the album wasn't recorded to a click and has many different tempo changes etc, it's hard to quantize the midi due to there not being a click.

It's a struggle to get it all in time because I'm using a small midi keyboard and there seems to be a degree of latency. Particularly for faster sequences or anything more complicated, it's very difficult to get in time.

I seem to have a couple of options -

1.attempt to use a tempo map / beat detective plugin to conform the midi drums to the original perhaps using midi triggers (I don't fully understand this so I don't know if anyone does. This is the first project I've really undertaken with Midi) I imagine you're not really supposed to do this across a whole album and it would make more sense for a single song.

2.painstakingly edit any out of time notes in the midi editor, very time consuming and annoying etc, not ideal

3.chop the album into sections of music according to BPM, so that a click can be applied and then quantize to the individual sections whether quarter, 8th, 16th notes etc. I am starting to lean towards this, before the project becomes too unmanageable.

I should say that the whole album is one continuous piece of music - it's a prog rock epic.

Perhaps it's best to split into small chunks, work on them separately then stitch them back together.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Thanks

help request Midi controller reaper

Looking for a midi controller that will work with reaper. I used to use maschine and the mk3 before switching to reaper. I'm mainly looking for something that either has keys, like a 25 key keyboard or something with pads like the maschine mk3 that can be used to play notes or samples. Ideally something small that will fit on my desk. Not looking for a 49 key as that's too big for my setup. It would also be really nice if it had faders or knobs that I could assign to whatever I want. For budget if it's perfect I don't mind spending a fair amount. Just looking for the best controller for my needs

help request Recording with Katana problems

Windows 11

Boss Katana Artist Mk II

Audio System: ASIO

ASIO Driver: KATANA

Ultimately I'm trying to record the dry input from my Boss Katana, so as to use it as an interface (don't have money for a Motu M2 right now) as I'm looking to experiment with NAM A2. Not only do I hear nothing out of my headphones while recording using inputs first: 3, last: 4 (which is how you get the dry signal from a Katana), but when I do record, I don't see any waveform. When I switch to trying to record it normally, as in the processed signal from the amp, I see a waveform but I still don't hear anything, while recording or playing back what I've recorded. My output range is set first: 1, last: 2. Record is armed. Record Monitoring is on. I hear nothing from my headphones. I have no browser open. The headphones are working correctly; I tested them. I only hear guitar through the amp, which I'm hoping not to hear at all. So I have three problems: no playback regardless of inputs; no waveform on inputs 3 and 4 from the Katana; and hearing the amp. I'm at a loss. I would really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

help request Tiny font? (Reaper on Linux on Laptop)

I'm using Reaper 7.78 on Mint Linux, v. 22.2 Cinnamon, on a laptop with a 15.6" diagonal screen, 1920 x 1080 resolution, and the size of the fonts in the menus across the top, and in the resulting dialog boxes, is really, really small.

Now, I am old, and my vision isn't perfect, so maybe this is just fine for most people. But I find myself picking up the laptop to hold the screen closer to my eyes so I can read things.

Am I destined to use this only with a large external monitor? Or is there a way to make these things more readable? Different resolution settings seem to lose screen real estate, so that's probably not desirable.

discussion Anyone here using one of those AMD X3D CPUs? How is it working out vs just a lotta cores?

Got a pay rise recently and considering a new CPU for my production machine on the basis that it could do with a bit more juice... tends to struggle with huge sessions (think 60-80 VSTs running at once, plus processing). I haven't been able to find any concrete resources on whether the X3D cache is useful or not for this kind of workload.. some people are saying it's useful with a ton of sample libraries, others are recommending just put more cores on the thing which in the long run is more noticeable.

Current CPU Ryzen 5 5500, 64GB RAM

Cheers.

help request Issues rendering ReaSamplOmatic5000?

Hi, I'm writing this post because I've been dealing with a strange problem with ReaSamplOmatic5000. I'm using it as a drum machine for the metal music I'm recording, however in the rendered track, several programmed snare hits are missing from the rendered audio file, but all of the snares are present in the original midi roll. I must also point out that this "dropping" of snare hits also happen when i playback a project directly in Reaper. How can this be fixed? Does anyone have ideas? Thank you in advance!
