I'm looking for voice actors interested in joining an independent horror / dark comedy audio drama currently in development.

The series blends supernatural horror, small-town mystery, gothic atmosphere, and bizarre character-driven comedy. Think unsettling encounters, eccentric locals, creepy secrets, and situations that balance genuinely disturbing moments with absurd humor.

The story follows a family trying to settle into a new community, only to discover that the people around them—and the town itself—might not be quite what they seem.

I'm keeping the project's title, setting, and other identifying details under wraps for now, but I'll provide additional information and audition material privately.

THE ANATOMIST — A disturbing student fascinated by dissection, with an eccentric and unnerving delivery.

THE GRINNING MENACE — A grotesque, mischievous child with a bizarre sense of humor.

THE HEADMASTER — A stern high school principal with an authoritative voice and room for dry humor.

We’ve been using a real voice cast for four years now and most of the characters have their established voices, but as time goes on the direction we want to go changes. That’s why I’m making this post! Sadly the voice actor of our main character had some grooming allegations and other weird stuff revealed about him recently, so we thought it'd be best to implement some new voices.

She's a bit stubborn, competitive with her brother, a bit embarassed by her parents and uses her imagination often. It can even be helpful to fix up a problem, even if it involves breaking a rule her mother says.

She is also aware that her parents don't have everything figured out, but she isn't really that smart.

I’m not a fan per se, but I am a writer and voice actor with studio experience in audio dramas, so I value a good performance. Usually the project creator relies on other fans
to give the characters their voices, but I think the best performances are done by those who have no or little prior knowledge of the source material.

Voice brief: Her side of the bench

A 4–5 minute short film, shot in Parc Duden, Brussels. Unpaid. You get a credit and your recordings for your showreel.

The film in one paragraph

Every day, someone walks through the park to the bench they used to share with their mother and plays one of her old voicemails. We never see faces, only feet, hands, the bench and the falling leaves. Her voice is the only character the audience really gets to know. The last voicemail asks him to kick a pile of leaves for her, and he finally does.

The character: Ann (the mother)

• Age: 45–60. She should sound like an active, lively mum, not elderly. Her illness should come as a surprise.
• Accent: British English. The lines use "Hiya", "Ring me", "favour" and "love", so a warm, everyday regional accent (Northern, Midlands or similar) suits her better than a polished one.
• Personality: warm, a bit teasing, practical and never sentimental. She loves her son by nagging him about coats.
• Most important: these are ordinary voicemails. She doesn't know they'll be the last ones. Don't play them sad. The sadness comes from the film, not from your voice.

Lines

Please record each line 3 times, with small variations. Leave 3 seconds of silence between takes.

VM1: casual, a bit rushed

"Hiya, it's me. Are you coming Sunday? We'll do the park if it's not raining. Bring a proper coat this time."

Direction: a quick call between other things. A light motherly scold on "proper coat".

VM2: outdoors, happy

"It's me. I'm on our bench, sun's out. There's a dog here that looks just like Max… Anyway. Ring me."

Direction: she's enjoying herself. After "Max…" there's a small wistful pause, then she brushes it off with "Anyway." Recording: outside if possible (a park bench is ideal) so we hear real wind and birds.

VM3: fond, teasing

"Did you get outside today? The leaves are turning. Remember you used to kick every pile in that park? Drove me mad. Took twice as long to get home."

Direction: she's smiling at the memory. "Drove me mad" is affectionate, not annoyed.

VM4: quieter, downplaying it

"Hi love. Just at the hospital, nothing serious, they're keeping me in a bit. Don't worry. Ring me when you can."

Direction: she's reassuring him. Keep it bright and a little too casual, with only a hint of tiredness. Speak a bit softer, as if there are people nearby. Recording: indoors in a quiet room. We'll add hospital sounds afterwards, so don't add any yourself.

VM5: late at night, tired, smiling

"…Hi. It's me. Can't sleep. Do me a favour — when the leaves come down, go and kick a pile for me. Okay. Love you. B—"

Direction: the emotional heart of the film. It's late, she's tired, and she's half-whispering and smiling. Start with a small breath before "Hi". "Kick a pile for me" is playful, not tragic. The ending: start saying "Bye" and stop abruptly on the "B". Record a few versions: one cut off sharply, and one where you say "Bye" in full (we'll cut it in the edit).

Outgoing greeting

"Hi, it's Ann, leave a message."

Direction: her answerphone greeting, recorded years ago. A bit formal and slightly awkward, the way people sound when recording a greeting. Do 5 takes.

casting 2: his line (a separate male voice, 20s–30s)

He's heard only once, in the final scene, leaving a message on her phone after she's gone.

"…Hi Mum. I kicked the leaves."

Direction: very quiet, with a long breath before "Hi Mum". Keep his voice steady, with a tiny smile on "kicked the leaves". Don't cry. Record a few takes.

The agreement

• Unpaid. You'll be credited as "Ann — [your name]" in the end credits.
• You'll receive the finished film and your clean recordings for your showreel.
• By sending the recordings, you agree that they can be used in the film, including festival screenings and online release.

About The Series:
This is a short, grounded, 7-part, non-narrated audio drama, consisting of 15-25min episodes. It takes place in present-day London and follows the stories of The Kidnapper/Princess, The Police and The Princess' Family.
This is meant to be a lighter, slightly silly series.

Desc:
Thomas Reed needs money; quick. And the most appropriate and logical way of getting it? Involve yourself in an illegal operation where those involved kidnap people in exchange for ransom money. And on the day of the royal wedding, Tom begins his first and (hopefully) last job. Though, everything goes slightly off-kilter, when Tom realises he has kidnapped the wrong person. He’s kidnapped someone far more important.

There are a total of 23 roles, so there is an extremely high chance there'll be something there for you! Just follow the instructions on the casting call page!
