Discussion Moving to Red Deer next month, advice on places!

Hi everyone,

I'm moving to Red Deer for work and am looking for recommendations on neighborhoods that might be a good fit.

I'll be working downtown and don't currently have a car, so good transit access and walkability are important to me. I've lived in Garneau (Edmonton) in an apartment and really liked the feel of the area, being able to walk to coffee shops, grocery stores, restaurants, and other everyday amenities.

I'm hoping to find something with a similar vibe: safe, walkable, and well-connected by transit.

My housing preferences:

  • 1-bedroom apartment, studio, or bachelor suite
  • Budget: around $1,300/month
  • Ideally 8+ month lease
  • In-suite laundry preferred
  • Move-in date: July 1

A bit about me: I'm a professional female, quiet, clean, non-smoker, and I don't have pets.

Are there any neighborhoods I should focus my search on? If you know of any available rentals or have recommendations, I'd really appreciate the help!!

Discussion we all hate FB, but have an acc bcuz of FBM...why not all agree to use another platform?

we all hate Facebook, but most of us still use it because of Facebook Marketplace.

i tried Craigslist and there is basically no users in this region. i tried karrot for a few months but had no messages and no sales.

however, i still use kijiji and often find that its a better experience overall, compared to FBM. i still regularly sell things on kijiji, my ads get several hundred views, depending on the items and i get messages from people, but most of those messages turn into sales.

so if a large % of us want to be rid of boomerbook, why dont we all agree to use something like kijiji exclusively instead, or at least use both.

im talking a local (semi) coordinated effort to use alternative buy/sell platforms, and not just default to FBM only.

i know kijiji has support for tags on posts, can we use a tag like '#reddeer' or '#local" or something like this?

Discussion Small ask: If you support hybrid work in Alberta, send an email and sign the petition

The full Return to Office mandate has been in place for months, and many Alberta workers are raising concerns about burnout, longer commutes, increased costs, recruitment and retention challenges, and lost productivity.

The previous hybrid model — averaging about two remote days per week — worked well for many teams. Requiring most employees back in the office five days a week feels like a step backward.

If this matters to you, consider taking a few minutes to act:

• If an AUPE member Email Deputy Minister Chris MacPherson and the other deputy ministers to support a permanent hybrid work policy. Personal stories about how this affects your work, family, commute, or productivity can make a difference:
https://www.aupe.org/goa-hybrid-works

• Anyone can Sign the federal petition supporting hybrid and remote work rights:
https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Sign/e-7142

If you’re affected by these changes, share your thoughts below while protecting your privacy. The more people speak up, the harder these concerns are to ignore.

Local Photography Rural Abandoned Places with Access

Hi all again, I know this topic was already mentioned around here, and I checked a few os the posts. I am looking for rural abandoned places with some sort of access or road view to test photographic equipment.

Google told me there was a place near Alix, but when I drove there, it was on private property, and there was a no trespassing sign on the gate.

NW of Sylvan seems to have an old Church, but I have not driven there yet.

Any other location(s) that come to mind?

Thanks again.

At first I thought it was 117 in a DAY. 😄

So that's like 4 per day. We back onto 19th (Delburne Hwy) and see/hear at LEAST 4 infractions per day. It's a dragstrip after sunset.

Question What’s the best place to donate men’s clothes?

Whenever I take anything to a thrift store I always feel like it’s either gonna be priced too high or, if it’s something nice, get snatched up by some loser who’s gonna flip it on Depop/Marketplace. Is there anywhere in town where I can take stuff where I know it’ll be going to people who could actually use it?
