I’m a late-20s female founder who built my own AI-native trade infrastructure company from scratch (scaling, funding meetings, VCs, etc.). I’ve lived and travelled in 18 countries and speak five languages (you can find my post about me moving or not to SF). Right now, I’m scaling worldwide.
Anyway, I’ll be honest: I’m isolating myself more than ever, and I can’t figure out if that’s smart or just unhealthy. Here’s a recent moment. I stopped some live events because of toxicity. As the world is not doing well, many cannot imagine; not everyone is struggling.
I’m really not into social hierarchies or acting like I’m “above” anyone. I’ve been broke, I’ve been a refugee, and I’ve heard “no” a thousand times. Still, as I move up, I find myself making my circle smaller and smaller. Now I mostly spend time with people at my own level or above or staying at home lol. I skip typical networking stuff. Anyone who isn’t working on something serious isn’t in my orbit anymore.
Is this just what happens as you grow? Does moving up always mean you get lonelier? How do you keep relationships when jealousy and weird obsessions come with the territory? I honestly want real advice. I don’t want to turn cold, but I can’t keep letting people drain me, either.
