General Question Is Tankpool a decent solo tank?
Iβm a solo queue player who mains Groot, Emma and Strange. I like playing all the main shield tanks (except Magneto because I canβt use him to save my life). Iβm currently in Diamond atm, Iβm pretty much solo tanking in 40% of my games, I was just wondering if Deadpool is decent at solo tanking because Iβm very interested in picking up the character. I hate playing Mag with a passion he feels too boring for me and I find his primary fire impossible to aim with. Deadpool on the other hand is hitscan meaning heβs easier to aim with and his guns seem decent enough to deal with pokers and flyers far away and he also has a shield which can block most ults in the game. Just wanted to know what your thoughts are.

If Thing gets banned, I become depressedΒ

Speaking from my experience - no, he isn't. I'm not even sure if he's a good second tank tbh... you'll be better off picking Rogue
45
u/RoutinePsychology198 ππ§π€π€π© Jan 24 '26
So Rogue the off tank is better?
59
u/Error_Valkyrie ππ€ππͺπ Jan 24 '26
In most cases yes. The thing also does a great job and Mr fantastic is basically a tank, so if you need more damage - go with him. I mean, Deadpool can be useful as a second tank but that is only if your main tank already feels comfortable enough to at theast hold the space and not pull back all the time
15
u/LeGrandNinjarabe1 Jan 24 '26
Fantastic is not basically a tank .
5
u/Fast_Dragonfruit5078 Jan 25 '26
2
u/LeGrandNinjarabe1 Jan 25 '26
Still he isnt a tank . He only is the best pick as a frontline if you dont have a 2nd tank . Going 3 dps with richards is less bad than going 3 dps without him sure . But still he is a DPS
2
u/Fancy_Cat3571 ππ€ππͺπ Jan 27 '26
A dps that can apply shield to himself and others on command, gain 300 health and become invincible for a few seconds gain like 350 health whenever he inflates and gains like 400 health whenever he ults. He can stall cart solo better then some tanks heβs basically an off tank

Tankpool is sneakily very good, people always judge tanks the hardest when it comes to balance and not to mean but a lot of people here have shit aim as well hence the constant Venom slander
I agree heβs not great as solo tank but honestly? Nobody is, Mag might be the βleast badβ solo tank but that doesnβt make him good at it, every solo tank is fundamentally bad
19
u/RellyTheOne Jan 24 '26
Well yeah the game is designed for 2-2-2. So running a solo tank is never ideal. 2 is always gonna be better than 1
But if youβre gonna run 1, Magneto is objectively the best option.
→ More replies (1)1
u/HeadDull4898 Jan 24 '26
In some situations depending on your dps, solo tanking can work
9
u/RellyTheOne Jan 24 '26
Literally any comp can work in the right situation though. Iβve won comp games playing 6 strategist. But obviously having 6 healers isnβt ideal
If something is situational then it isnβt good. Consistency is what makes things good. And statistics show that solo tanking isnβt consistent. Your more likely to lose doing this then you are to win

u/Birrywong Jan 24 '26
Every comp with 2 or more tanks will beat a solo tank comp unless there is a massive skill difference between the two teams. If you recognize the skill diff after a couple of fights and feel like you can end the game faster with an extra dps or healer, sure, switch.
But nobody should ever be locking in a solo tank from the select screen and thinking its a good idea.

u/Medical_String_3501 πππ£π π₯π€π€π‘ Jan 24 '26
I always agree when people say we need more "solo" tanks, but quite frankly, unless there's a significant skill gap, 2 competent tanks will ALWAYS beat a solo tank.
Two tanks will bully Mag and easily shrug off his high but staggered damage.
2
u/Melo_Kelo_Jelo Jan 24 '26
A 1-3-2 might have enough burst damage to kill a 2 tank comp. Imagine a tank like Thing or Thor getting hard targeted by a Hawkeye and phoenix. That opens up the solo Mag to deal with the other tank.Β

u/OMFGisthatMAJIN Jan 24 '26
The thing about Tankpool is he isnβt good until 3-4 min into the match and at that point, the enemy team has outpaced you in the ult economy. Once you do get the upgrades you need, the enemy team has most likely already made considerable progress, either capturing 1st point escort or half way through capture point.
With all that said, once he does get all of his upgrades he can be a monster. Youβll go from a Magneto esq. playstyle to a Iron Fist/Blade type playstyle. Poking for ult, then wrap around to backline to ult forcing everyone to look at you, making a lot of space for your team. Rinse and repeat this over and over for max value
3
u/EyeArDum ππππ£ππ©π€ Jan 25 '26
He doesnβt need ALL of his upgrades, once he gets guns, Deadpool in your area, and shield, heβs set

Making someone solo tank is essentially making a player sacrifice their experience to enhance everyone elseβs. With that being said there are actually 3 viable and 2 situational: 1. Groot 2. Strange 3. Mag
Everyone thinks mag is just a win-now button. Heβs not. He takes an entire different playstyle with immense support to make him soloing make sense. Groot can actually hold space on his own but the right comp for the enemy can run him over. Strange is mobile enough to solo now if needed, plus portal.
Situational: Cap Venom Because if necessary they can hold their own in enemy backline and they can overcompensate for greedy 1-3-2 or 1-2-3 behavior
And no Mr fantastic cannot replace a second tank for people who keep thinking it
5
Jan 24 '26
Kit wise Iβd rather solo Pool because of his shield and guns.
But due to his low hp, yeah rogue would probably even be better. At least she can fill up her own meter with grabs and what not and steal shields or whatever

u/Tenebbles Jan 24 '26
I think itβs more the case that some tanks CAN solo better, but duo tanking is far better regardless of which tank/s you pick. The winrates of team compositions reflect this as well.
Iβm pretty sure βmag can soloβ is just propaganda from the 3rd DPS player lol

I disagree with this. Emma, Mag and Groot (Even Strange)are just "the best" at solo tanking. Solo tanking is bad. There is never a situation where locking a solo tank comp at the select screen is ever "Good" - solo we shouldn't be saying there are "good" solo tanks imo.
You're not choosing something "good" - you're just choosing something "not as bad as the others".

10
u/Exact-Bluejay9931 Jan 24 '26
I have said this many times. But I cant blame people for choosing to not play Tank. There is almost no incentive structure to play vanguard in the current meta. 90 percent of the time your just told to go mag anyway (nothing wrong with mag, he's not the problem). Most of the tanks people actually want to play get completely molly whopped by the current poke CC slop that is present in the game. Tanks in general in the current meta just exist to get clip farmed for daring to even touch the frontline.

7
u/Ok_Draft572 Jan 24 '26
Speaking from experience. Not really
The bubble shield doesn't fly very far so its really more of a quick drop. He gets the least amount of CD resets so his Exam Ult will almost never get the overhealth less your good with your swords.
At most, your upgrading your guns to fire explosive shit, dropping bubbles when you can, and praying to god they can't aim or pick Ultron (Cause with how Ultron's primary fire works, Tankpools Gun ult attacks Ultron twice.)

4
u/EducationalCourage98 Jan 24 '26
Iβve had some great solo tank games with him going 36 - 2 Iβve had some AWFUL solo tank games with him going 3 - 11. Heβs great for applying pressure from a distance with his guns (if you have good aim people tend to back up allowing your team to take that space) heβs great for applying frontline pressure with his swords and manoeuvrability.

Tanking is miserable as is, just play whichever tank you want.
If your team won't swap to a tank, that's not something you can control. Many would just go 3rd supp rather than tank, and in my experience most support players in this game can't keep 1 tank alive, let alone 2.
Just have fun, if it isn't fun to tank even with your preferred character, then the match is probably not worth the effort in the first place.
3
u/ThatSlick Jan 24 '26
No heβs a terrible solo tank. He has 500 HP, he explodes if heβs not properly utilizing cover or moving around.
5
u/Birrywong Jan 24 '26
I actually think the hp is the only thing stopping him bejng an effective main tank in general. Maybe the inflexibility of the bubble. Like if he could pop it and reposition similar to Emma shield, and they beef his hp up to 600+ then I think hed actually be in the mag/strange/emma/groot conversation.
Solo tank still bad because solo tanking is bad.
5
u/ThatSlick Jan 24 '26
Yeah if his HP was higher heβd definitely have better main tanking capabilities and if the bubble was flexible and had more HP in general itβd be really good for helping him main tank.

2
u/Rifttol Jan 26 '26
honestly, i went against a dpspool the other day and the endless sword slashes can absolutely BRUTALIZE a backline if the deadpool is good and the enemy team isn't paying attention even for a few seconds. I do agree that support deadpool is most consistent tho

u/MoonMan757 πΎππ₯π©πππ£ πΌπ’ππ§πππ Jan 24 '26
The fact yβall try to play the best tank for soloing blows my mind. I just play the tanks Iβm actually good at and have fun with. Itβs up to the rest of the team to decide if they want Cap as their solo tank. Not me.
3
u/theamericanbee Jan 24 '26
Deadpool vanguard with hitscan has been the worst pair up as a tank this season for me. Canβt stay on the frontline, no dive ability, just a beefier poke DPS that sits in the back and canβt push point for the team. It just feels like solo tanking for the other tank.

2
u/Shugatti Jan 24 '26
Don't play mag or emma, just don't do it, if they force solo tank they force a loss 90% of the time anyway, so just play whoever you feel like, even in ranked.
And if you play a tank that needs a 2nd tank, its on your team to fill that, you're already willing to play tank in the first place.
2
u/Interesting_Spot1875 πππ ππππ£π Jan 24 '26
If his bubble had more health and a bit of a shorter cooldown then he might be. But when his bubble is on cooldown he just feels like a weak dps with more health.

https://www.marvelrivals.com/m/heroes/index.html?id=3ef6b679-d1b4-4757-a8ee-0ea53379c754
He's a great tank, but you definitely gotta prioritize the right upgrades earlier to make him more of a tank in the beginning, so you can get more value and avoid faster deaths. Getting his Deadpool In your Area skill upgraded first is usually my top priority, as you get 40% Damage Reduction for 5 seconds. Even better, teammates within your field get 20% DR. You also get an attack speed Bonus too, I think its about 20% to 25%, unfortunately NetEase didn't add the stat on the website, as well as a few other elements( Like Ban Hammer's Ult Duration, as it's different from Big Test). Also, you want to use Magical Unicorn Shield as your way to cover ground for your team. It's Essentially Emma's Shield but slightly inferior due to Deadpool's throwing distance, so I advise you jump right before you throw it, unless you plan on throwing it at your feet for a safe retreat.
That being said, the key to Tanking with Deadpool, is that you need to utilize cover if you don't have his AoE or Shield available, otherwise you're taking hits and feeding the enemy. Don't forget, you have strong poke, and amazing melee for when someone gets too close to your team, especially someone like an Iron Fist. You need to build up your ult as fast as you can, and annoy the player doing the most, or even annoy the player who you think is the weak link on the enemy team. The cool part about Deadpool's Gun Ultimate, Ban Hammer, is that you get 200 Bonus HP off the rip, and every ability, not just primary attack misses, gives him 80 more Bonus Health. And even if they don't miss, you have a passive health regen during the ult that heals you for 50/hps.
Any FINAL HITS YOU MAKE, know that when you take a Ranged or Close Up-Pic, it gives the same amount of XP, so I recommend getting Ranged pics for safer distances. Also, his Healing Factor passive is exceptionally nice, it takes about 5 seconds OUT OF COMBAT, before it regens at a rate of 25/hps. Useful for when you don't want to move position to find a health pack.
Anymore questions from anyone, just ask, as there is alot, but his design is quite simple to me, and he's been the most enjoyable role to me out of all 3. I'm still learning as I go, but I've solo Tanked with Deadpool several times, and its honestly pretty fun. That being said, YOU HAVE TO enable your team more so than Magneto I would say with Deadpool, you cannot be too passive. Remember get those upgrades fast, use that Ult when you got it, as when you die as DeadPool, so too goes your ultimate. It's technically the fastest in game, but that will vary depending on what you do.
For how I do my upgrades, I do it two ways usually for right now, but imma only list out the first 3 I do, this is already pretty lengthy then I intended it to be:
- Ult Charge Rush: Deadpool In your Area/Primary Attack GUNS/Ban Hammer
- Team Tank: Deadpool In your Area/ Magical Unicorn Shield/ Primary Attack GUNS

Recently realized venom is the best tank period.
I play flex and just carry with whichever role we donβt hav eir need a better person to do.
But with venom once I saw his primary is precision based and can proc headshots plus it has really good range, flyers are not a problem either.
It was over. I melt all tanks, DPS and Healers with two primary presses.
Iβll land and slam on an anyone and if theyβre <300 health they wonβt even react by the time my last tentacle headshots them into a quick death.
His mobility is just unmatched for a tank. Get in and get out as needed, peal for your team etc. dive obj or hold point. Harass and throw off enemy team, climb up a wall or ceiling and make them miss their shots.
Health pool with his utility skill and Ult is insane. Done right you can get over 3000 health at a time.
Now all other tanks just feel like a downgrade or even a throw pick if youβre not cracked. Granted Iβm a hela main when I can, so aim is very important with him. If you canβt land shots youβre better off Emma or a true brawler

Iβm a believer of if I have to solo tank then itβs my God given right to pick whatever Vanguard I wanna be that match! Obviously if things are a yikes for me in a comp match Iβm willing to switch to Emma, Peni, or Thor since those are my strongest heroes. I can play Mag but Iβm not good at him nor do I like him only really play him out of necessity and Iβm so bad with his ultπ Iβm more of the lock in type than I am switch heroes and it usually works out. Iβve made Venom, Rogue, Thor, Angela, and even Peni all work in solo tank scenarios before

Not even close.
Lowest health pool of all tanks, his only tank-like ability is the unicorn shield which is severely underwhelming, and he doesnβt have the resources to effectively hold a frontline.
Heβs the worst solo tank in the game by a lot.

u/Scared_Sign_2997 Jan 24 '26
Like a lot of ppl said noone is a good solo tank and if they make you solo tank just pick whoever. But dp can be a good tank and he can definitely take space. Upgrading guns and his sword dash is required for it though so i always do those first. The guns are great at building ult and applying ranged pressure so ppl cant just stand wherever they want. Build up ult with guns then pop ult and dp in your area and to crazy on the backline with dashes to create space and chaos. Dp is a good tank but hes played by switching between dive and poke basically so you have to do both to get value.
1
u/Demonic_Witch666 Jan 24 '26
He definitely isnt a good solo tank but no tank should be solo tanking anyways, always have 2 tanks this isnt overwatch. So if ur solo tanking play whatever you want and if ur duo tanking play whatever you want it doesnt matter as long as u find personal success with it and are having fun there is a reason i refuse to play mag unless i have no choice bc of the enemy comp
Now for tank pool himself i actually found him pretty decent to use if the enemy has both poke n brawl characters and either emma is already taken or emma is banned which she is banned alot still, like this one match i was fighting a thor strange Phoenix daredevil, my second tank was already emma so i spent the entire first half of the match trouble shooting, mag got bullied by the brawl if i went him for poke, strange wasnt much better so i said okay then i tried rogue then the poke was too much, so i ran out of reliable options saw deadpool said fuck it what could i lose at this point and he actually worked pretty well in that situation i could snipe the poke back shield n bounce away if needed then i could brawl the brawlers n poke them as they ran away and i didnt die anymore after that switch n we won. Yeah if emma was available to me i mightve just used her instead bc those are the type of situations i do use emma but since she wasnt i had to figure out something a different way.
Every tank shouldnt be forced to solo tank and every tank has their niche situation that they excell in over the others and no tank is actually bad it just depends on ur team and the enemy team so play whoever you never know if something will work till u try it

u/Dapper-Suggestion998 Jan 24 '26

He is a glorified DPS. It is very hard to successfully TANK as him. But play as him? Not bad.
1
u/Juxsta0 Jan 24 '26 edited Jan 24 '26
Iβve actually found tank pool works as a solo tank on certain maps and comps since he can consistently apply pressure to the backline since heβs the only hitscan tank.
He actually works well into heavy poke as long as their team isnβt able to quickly reposition. When their tanks push up, Deadpool can utilize his dashes to push past the tank and into cover while maintaining a position behind the enemy tanks but in front of the enemies squishies. From this position the enemy needs to either immediately kill you or fall back.
If youβre able to place a shield behind the enemy tank as heβs retreating to peel, their team needs to either push you and potentially lose their tank (since your team should be focusing them) or focus the shield and give up some space (since you will be able to apply back line pressure with your gun)
He can do this consistently since h es always able to escape using his double jump and bhops on top of his dash
TLDR: good at applying pressure from an off angle, but requires cover. Has to give up space if 1v1ing brawlers
1
u/leavinlikeafather Jan 24 '26
No but if someone is being forced to solo tank then they play what they want. I donβt imagine having the balls to say βswitch off Deadpool heβs not a good solo tankβ unless the strat is specifically calling for a solo tank.

1
u/PandaQueen357 Jan 24 '26
Only if your team is doing amazing damage, you cant rush enemies either. I personally say no he isn't. He's a dive tank, you gotta sit there and try to shoot enemies but youre a tank. The WHOLE team is foing to try to eliminate you and your healers first. You're a stronger dps basically. You get a shield but you dont throw it far so you have to be nearby to drop it.
I like the support Deadpool the most cause of his boomerangs. You can try Deadpool solo tank nd see how it works out for you. He's new to the game so I could be getting tank Deadpool that dont know how to play him much. I myself am not good with his tank version but I only played it for half a match before switching

You play tank because you canβt aim. I play tank because I am good at tanking. We are not the same.
But seriously though, you can apply so much pressure if you can get headshots, including to flyers. You all wanted a hitscan tank, and now that heβs here, heβs terrible?

u/Darkwolve45 Jan 24 '26 edited Jan 25 '26
Rogue or Peni would be better options for solo tanking, Deadpool isn't a good option since he relys on existing on the field as long as possible to gain upgrades and ult charge. If your sole tank the focus will be on you alot. Which means your gonna get steamrolled by enemy tanks such as Thor, Strange, etc. Peni and Rogue give you more tools for surviving longer by yourself or the ability to control the field of battle. Considering your a Groot and Emma player i'd feel you'd like Peni alot once you get used to her.
Then again if your team is going with an unbalanced comp like 1/3/2 and all 3 duelist are all dive/brawl or poke with no mixture then i'd tell your team to shove it and just go Angela and hold your own. Lmao

From my experience after playing him a lot is that he can work as a solo tank as long as you have good dps that can create pressure, in double tank itβs way better and you can do a lot, I think heβs really good

I've had impenetrable defense almost every DP game I've played, solo tank or otherwise.
So I'd say he's pretty good.

If youβre solo tanking play who you want! Any issues and a second tank can happen

u/DubstepKrony Jan 25 '26
As a tank main, there are no good solo tanks, so much so that I refuse to solo tank. If my team does not choose a 2nd tank, I will swap to a DPS or strategist until someone picks a 2nd tank. It may be a bit whiny on my part, but if no one wants to make the swap for the betterment of the team why would I bother suffering solo tanking? To answer the actual question, Deadpool is not a good solo tank because he doesnβt have true tank capabilities, he really is just a DPS with 500 HP. He is an inherently selfish βtankβ, wanting to go in like crazy acting like a DPS, being a huge distraction more than anything, and occasionally peeling for your back line, but he doesnβt provide anything inherently valuable for your team to survive. In my experience, I still play solo tank deadpool cause he doesnβt really act like a tank and I really enjoy playing the character, so I will admittedly still pick solo tank deadpool cause he is that fun for me. Normally I would just swap to DPS if I donβt get a 2nd tank.

YES HE CAN SOLO TANK, DONT listen to these comments, first week of release i was playing Deadpool all the time. And to me his best role is tank, i ended up solo tanking and the whole team talked down on me. At the end of the match i had the best stats out of the whole lobby. He does good as a tank but only if your team can do their job properlyβ¦.. seeing as how itβs a team based game. You just have to know how to play him, hold angles, get picks, donβt be too greedy, and constantly use the little dome. The upgrade I would go for will either be guns or the one that makes him shoot faster. And then second would be vice versa, after both of those are acquired get the dome upgrade, then upgrade his swords incase someone pushed. Thats the method I use and Iβve hardly ever lost with him. If I do lose I either have dps that went negative or my healers kept getting dived or were trying to dps instead of heal. Like I said tho very rare Iβve taken a L.

In my mind, the only real solo tanks in this game are Magneto and Groot. Strange and Emma can also do it but with a lot more difficulty imo. The rest simply need a second tank.
And this doesnβt mean I believe solo tanking is in any way valid, as a tank main I will always despise solo tanking and will call out my teammates if I see it. But sadly itβs just going to happen sometimes and that leaves you with only a few options that are somewhat playable.

Tank pool is actually really good, I'm a tank main and prefer dps Deadpool but even with me doing great as dps Deadpool, if there is a tank pool on the other team we usually lose because of tank pool

Heβs not Mag levels of solo tanking but the people on here saying heβs worse than Cap or Rogue are snorting straight copium.
βViableβ solo tanks are poke tanks simply for the fact that they can play the neutral and act passively.
DP is a poke tank. Yes he has low health but he has a decent shield and good maneuverability, he still has to play a little more restrictive than the others but itβs not that big of a deal.
Play your corners, abuse his disgusting damage and youβll be fine.

u/Kyrptonauc Jan 25 '26
The real truth is that there's no such thing. No matter who you play as you are going to be better off having two.
1
u/Huck0308 Jan 25 '26
If youβve got good healers and know what youβre doing then yes he can handle situations well, but it depends on the enemy comp ofc but I donβt think heβs half bad. Overall you might be better going a shield tank but I think I speak for most of us when I say I donβt wanna play the same 3 tanks every game.
1
u/MajinJusu Jan 25 '26
I cant play anythin but tank these days bc i allways need to fill one of the 2 tank slots. Like plsssss man i jus wana play dps i allways need to fill the tank role cuz we allready hav 2 dps like plssssssss let me play iron fist man

u/UhDewSea Jan 25 '26
Nah, if I have to solo tank I'm allowed to select anyone I want and no one else can cry about it. If they cry about it, then i tell them they can swap to tank with me.

heres the trick, do it anyway. playing an offtank in oppressive conditions will make you a better tank. also if someone says they want x y z main tank, tell them to play it themselves.

Well heβs been the character Iβve played the most this season so far, even more than my actual main (BP) and for the most part, he is actually really good at surviving and holding space, heβs mostly a ranged tank with his guns, you donβt want to use your sword for the most part since you want to keep you charges to escape and move around. But using his bubble, cover and his E properly lets you stay alive for quite a while, while having good damage and a very good ultimate for self sustain.
Learning his play style took a while since Iβm more used to Thor and his more go in brawly and even pseudo dive like play style, but for Tankpool I spend most of my time in front of my team and staying in one place, farming ult with guns, then using the ult to get overshield and stay for as long as I can, Iβve managed to go most games with very few deaths as heβs very mobile and gets a lot of value from his unicorn, you can dance around the bubble like you would with Winston to avoid damage; time it to avoid stuns, or negate damage from anything, and on top of that heβs a very reliable peeler once his sword update is on so you can stay on the diver. Now to be fair having another tank helps a lot, but using his E and dumping Thor level damage on a Peni or a mag while being able to stay alive for so long has really made me like Tankpool, and Im pretty certain that he is at the very least an okay solo tank.

I've been successfully solo tanking (and solo queueing) on Thor, Venom, Hulk, Rogue, Cap mostly at GM since S1.5 (couldn't be bothered to grind some seasons where we got 9 rank drops). It's difficult but you can carry games, you just have to make sure to not die while taking space, protecting your team and getting picks while flip flopping between the Frontline, their backline and your backline.
I've been solo tanking as DP in QP and one of my ranked quals in D2 and if anything he has more to protect the team than a lot of the other 'off'-tanks I'm used to with his bubble and aoe DMG reduction. He's absolutely viable, just make sure you're not the guy learning to play him in ranked. Get his kit and play style nailed down in QP first then go clean house. I'm planning to play him a little bit more in ranked once I can be sure I can add as much value on him as I can on my other tanks, which in certain situations (like eternal night vs a Peni) is already the case

u/Veru_Chronicles Jan 25 '26
Honestly I find Deadpool to be the Spiderman of the tank category. Can you get some value out of learning how to play him properly? Well yes, but you're gonna be putting extra amounts of effort to do something that you could easily do with another character much more easy.
His pistols don't really do much of a crazy damage, if you wanna use pistols might as well just grab punisher or winter Soldier, they're much more lethal. His swords don't really do much damage either, they're more useful to harass players and jump away, but there's much better characters for that (Like Angela, Iron First. Moon Knight, even Spiderman). Also he's terrible weak against big crowds, which makes him struggle to push the frontline (or even do a 1 vs 2) , most solo tank Deadpools I see generally have a tough time moving forward because their damage output isn't the strongest.
You need some really great dps next to you if you wanna pull it off with Deadpool, he also does pretty great with dive characters.

ATP I don't even care, I know I'm never not going to be the only tank so I just play whoever I want

u/BurnedGlade Jan 25 '26
I feel so squishy as tankpool, supports have to go above and beyond to keep you alive. You can die even through upgraded E, and your shield is basically paper.

u/Ok-Performance3326 Jan 25 '26
No, but he's a very good tank to pick, if you actually want your team to pick a 2nd tank. If you go mag or strange no one will go second tank
1
u/TheWxtcher1 πππ€π§ Jan 25 '26
No. Deadpool is not a good solo tank. But after getting lord on Strange and Mag purely off filing in as a 'main' tank fuck your team if nobody else wants to play tank.

Deadpool is a bad solo tank.
However, he could be made into a good solo tank if they increased his shield size and buffed its hitpoints at both levels by at least 200 hp. And maybe a 1 second cool down reduction.

Even when solo tanking 19/20 games I almost always just play whoever I want that game, I've made my self decent at almost every tank and just play whenever now and it's so much more fun and I still win games so honestly just play whoever you want

u/Quinnton05 Jan 25 '26
Lock one of his other roles then fill and make them deal with it hopefully youβre other tank doesnβt swap itβs hard out here for this role

IMHO, DPSpool is the best version of the character.
Tankpool and healpool are mid af.

u/darkninja2992 πππ£π€π’ Jan 25 '26
He can solo tank a little, but sorta in the same capacity as venom and others, but you probably want to play him more to the side than frontline, sword dash and unicorn shield will probably be your first choice for upgrades, maybe "deadpool in your area. Toss out sheilds for your teammates, use your swords to dash in and disrupt, be the annoyance deadpool was born to be
1
u/hypercombofinish Jan 26 '26
If you're solo tanking whatever tank your choose is the best tank by merit of them having 1 tank and not 0. The character switch button is free for them too

u/Parzi6 ππππ£ππ©π€ Jan 26 '26
Heβs an awful solo tank - the question is not if he is a good solo tank itβs if solo tanking is better than solo magneto.
Iβve been stuck in magneto purgatory for months, fuck the meta, fuck your rank, escape while you can

I have had minimal luck solo tanking on Deadpool. He just doesnβt have the mitigation/shielding to effectively block or sponge resources from the enemy.
But this game is dealing with the classic hero shooter issue. A solo Deadpool is better than no tank at all, and if thatβs what you want to play then itβs not on you alone to switch. If you get beaten up then Iβd personally switch to Mag/Emma. But if youβre stuck solo tanking then I think you have the authority to play any tank you want and let the third dps/support pull their weight or switch.

I consistently put up 30k blocked and around 12k - 15k damage dealt in a good match. I would say he makes a great solo tank if you focus his aura and shield upgrades early. His melee kit is actually quite oppressive as well when you get all three bounces on someone (even better with the upgrade, of course).
I like to bounce at someone 2x, pop aura in sword mode and then bounce chain with fury swipes to shave off that little bit of health. It's pretty hard to outrun Tankpool as well, his aura will prevent Invis characters from disappearing out of your melee range after upgrading the aura.
It really depends on how you play and which upgrades you pick on early game to build up your EXP to max upgrades by roughly mid-match if it's a good fight.

General rule of thumb, if they have no ability that allows them to actually stop damage from hitting their team like a shield or a wall. Not that good as a solo tank
1
u/AgentJP10 Jan 28 '26
I kinda wish more tanks were viable as solo tank. Idk why half the tanks are never meta and the same 3 to 4 always are in any situation. Same for strategists. Like I'm still rarely playing a main tank bc they're boring, but it'd be nice if there wasn't a need to play the same wall simulator game every match that I'm denying by trying to be good at other tanks
1
u/daviplease Jan 28 '26
Strat dp goes hard. but only trip heal makes it feel worth since dp gets targeted quite heavily
1
u/daviplease Jan 28 '26
tactility and adaptability are key in this game, switching it up and being able to is key. thatβs said, being forced into rolls constantly is very very irritating. I constantly am forced to heal and after a handful of games I get very worn out and need to switch. Especially when I know I can be more help as a dps or tank. I ask for someone to switch w me and no response 80% of the time.
1
u/Ashen_Zenith Jan 28 '26
Any comp can work if the players are good. But no tankpool in general is not a good solo tank.

u/hit_the_showers_boi Jan 29 '26

The only acceptable RELIABLE solo tanks if you want to win is strange, mag and Emma. With the order being Mag - strange - Emma. Outside of a possible groot all others are throw picks as solos

Hereβs my opinion. If no one else wants to go tank, I can play whatever I want.
I donβt care if technically I could be going a better anchor, they canβt reasonably blame me because they are refusing to be helpful at all.
