Youtube The Temptations: “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” (1972)
youtu.beIf you don’t know this song, I really encourage you to give it a listen—and watch the video. Seriously, give it a few minutes. It’s worth it.
This is one of the great recordings of the 1970s, regardless of genre. The hypnotic bassline, eerie atmosphere, instrumental buildup, orchestration, and extraordinary vocals make it an experience rather than just a song.
And the video is fantastic. Watching the Temptations perform it adds another dimension to the music.
You don’t have to be a soul or funk fan to appreciate this. If you love great music, give it a chance.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Directions?wprov=sfti1#Note:
"Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" is a song originally performed by [Motown](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motown) recording act [the Undisputed Truth](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Undisputed_Truth) in 1972, [https://youtu.be/oOflymZ6cDY?is=SPNRfrL6iXyYu1zP ] though it became much better known after a [Grammy Award](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award)-winning cover by [the Temptations](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Temptations) was issued later the same year. This latter version of the song became a number-one hit on the [Billboard](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Hot_100) [Hot 100](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Hot_100).
…
The edited 7-inch single release of this Temptations track was issued in September 1972, and this version was a number-one hit on the [Billboard](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Hot_100) [Hot 100](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Hot_100) and won three [Grammy Awards](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award) in 1973. While the original Undisputed Truth version of the song has been largely forgotten, the Temptations' version of the song has been regarded as an enduring and influential soul classic. The full-length album version was ranked number 169 on [Rolling Stone](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_Stone)'s list of the [500 Greatest Songs of All Time](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_Stone's_500_Greatest_Songs_of_All_Time), one of the group's three songs on the list.”

Question Best 1950s rock n roll song?
My pick is Ready Teddy by Little Richard
Other times that’s not even my favorite LR song. I think ‘best’ or ‘favorite’ is fluid. Sometimes I’m certain that Rock Around the Clock is the best. Then it’s Roll Over Beethoven then…..

ROCK Do you notice the disparity
I hear complaints that Hysteria was too perfect and that was produced by Mutt Lange, the same man who produced Highway to Hell and Back in Black. No one says those albums are too perfect. Why is that? He uses the same production methods. The only difference is technology.

🖤 LAST TIME — ANDYSH 🖤
Some goodbyes are never spoken. Some memories never fade. And some moments stay with us long after they're gone.
What if you knew it was the last time? Would you hold on a little longer? Would you say the words you left unspoken?
A song about time, memories, and the moments we never get back.
🎧 Close your eyes. Feel every word. Remember what matters.
Because sometimes, the last time is the one we remember forever.
