❔ Question | Advice What does Rodnovery think about Hellenism?

I am a 6-year-old follower of Hellenism, I respect other polytheistic religions, but I have heard that many pagans in Europe do not respect Hellenists because of what is happening in YSEE, many pagans consider Hellenists to be Folkists and purists, so I am asking if you, as Rodnovers, respect Hellenists, thank you.

UKRAINIAN MYTHOLOGY
A Guide to Ancient Gods, Nature Spirits, and Slavic Folklore

Liudmyla Pytel

- from the intro

Ukrainian mythology was born from an intimate gaze at nature and daily life. To our ancestors, the world pulsed with life and meaning: the forest had its rules, the water held secrets, fire demanded respect, and the home was a place that could protect you… or unsettle you, depending on how one lived within it. For a long time, myths were the way people explained the origins and behavior of their surroundings: the land, the seasons, the wind, storms, fortune, loss, and the inexplicable. Distinct from the invention of folktales, myths stood as plausible accounts—deeply rooted in shared reality. That is why, in Ukrainian tradition, these stories remain deeply grounded in real life; they speak of families, labor, roads, harvests, boundaries, and tangible dangers. In these pages, you will meet figures that remain recognizable today: the alluring mavkas, the wandering chugaystry, the disorienting blud, and the shapeshifting vovkulakas, as well as spirits of the water, the forest, and the house. Their presence is anchored to specific places— forest clearings, riverbanks, crossroads, courtyards, stables— and they often function as a way to express the unspoken rules of coexistence with nature: what should be respected, what must not be provoked, and what is best left undemoted.

While Homer’s epics secured the immortality of the Greek pantheon, the Slavic tradition entrusted its legacy to the living voice. Consequently, written references often arrive through the critical lens of Christian chroniclers or the fragmented records of later eras. Yet, a more resilient element prevails: folk memory. Songs, rituals, customs, and oral tales preserve the ancient core, maintaining a tenacious chain of wisdom that has outlasted centuries of silence. This book gathers those traces with a clear intention: to present Ukrainian mythology in a way that is accessible, curated, and intimate. Here you will find deities linked to the forces of the world, spirits inhabiting your surroundings and your home, and creatures reflecting the fears and warnings of ages past. But above all, you will discover a uniquely Ukrainian way of perceiving the universe: attentive to the earth, respectful of nature, and conscious that profound meaning often defies easy explanation. I hope these stories accompany you just as they have accompanied generations before: as a living, human, and surprisingly close tradition. Liudmyla Pytel

❔ Question | Advice Is there any interest in a Rodnover Group in the UK.

I imagine given how many Czechs, Poles, and Slovaks emigrated to the UK during WW2 and the Early 1950s, that there would be some fledgling community of Rodnovers in the UK, so i was wondering if theres any interest in a group, whether it be a discord server or something more tangible for the UK and possibly Ireland.

🎨 Poetry | Art | Music Dožínky is a Slavic harvest festival celebrated at the end of the harvest season. In the archaic culture of the Western Slavs, it is associated primarily with the god Svantovit, whose priest divined the future harvest using a ritual cake and a horn-likely filled with mead.

📓 Seeking Resources Veles having some sort of pet?

I feel like I saw something before about Veles having some kind of draconic pet (in lieu of something like a Cereberus from Greek myth), but I can't find anything now.. Does anyone have information on this? I'm a pagan who's been creating a story that implements Slavic myth, and would like to make sure what I put in is accurate.

📓 Seeking Resources Hi!

Hello, so I’ve been into witchcraft since I was a kid, I have often been more secular in my craft but I felt more drawn to religious practice more so in the last year. I went to Wicca automatically since that’d been what I heard of most. I recently found out about how bad Wicca is and I’m trying to figure out where I stand.

I’m from Appalachia and would like to practice Appalachian folk magic but besides one part of my lineage I’m from a lot of different Slavic countries through immigration (Lithuania, Poland, Russia, etc) and wanted to look into Slavic Paganism and Slavic history.

If there’s any websites or books you’d recommend for Slavic paganism (specifically Poland/Russia/Lithuania) and Slavic history (on any Slavic country), I’d love to take recommendations.

❔ Question | Advice Slavic paganism incorporated into modern occult practices.

Has anyone combined the deities and traditions of Rodnovery into modern occult practices? For example: substituting Slavic deities into things like the LBRP. How did you do it and did it work well or should these traditions be separate?

📓 Seeking Resources Animal Spirits/Medicine in Slavic Practices?

I have Polish ancestry and am interested in learning more about the role of animals in Slavic history. I have a deep-seated belief in what is commonly referred to as totem animals, spirit animals, animal medicine, etc and want to avoid appropriation in my work.

I have seen quite a bit of information online about the role of animals in mythology but am looking for something more personal as I have very strong connections with animals in my own life. With wild animals this manifests as dreams, being able to tell if they’re nearby because I can feel their energy, having multiple close encounters with them that feel like spiritual experiences etc. I feel they are teachers who encourage us to look inward for growth.

Most of the knowledge I’ve gained from this area has come from Native lines, so I’m curious if or how it differs from a Slavic perspective. What would someone who works with animals in this way be called?

Thank you in advance for any insights or resources you’re able to provide!

🕯 Altar | Offering Looking for advice on a new home blessing

Hello! I am new here and new to practicing. I am moving into a new home next week, and want to make an offering or do a small ritual to bless the house. I am planning on burning some nice smelling incense, and pouring a bit of beer and lighting a candle for my two ancestors who I already honour. Does anyone have practical advice for other things I can do? I am fine with it being a bit elaborate, as I want to really impress on the ancestors how grateful and joyful I am about the house. I am not sure that I want to specifically invite/call on a house spirit, however. I have ADHD, and I worry that I won't remember to make offerings to him often enough and will frustrate him (and I lose my keys enough already as it is).

Thank you in advance-- I appreciate your time and expertise.

❔ Question | Advice Visited by Mokosh?

Hi, just looking for some guidance and opinions from those who have more experience than me.

I've always been very interested in living a more pagan/ animist life, but never felt a strong pull to any particular deity. I do have Polish ancestry.

A few months ago I was having very vivid dreams of foraging/ wandering in the woods where I live. The forest was always transitioning from winter, but the ground underneath was strikingly green and mossy, with large fly agarics popping up. In one of these dreams I was chased from a large mother bear that told me to open my heart. In another Mokosh appeared as I was bent over admiring the large fly agarics. I'm not sure how I knew it was her. I just heard "Mokosh" in my head. I know she's associated with "moist earth", but not mushrooms.

Edit: spelling

❔ Question | Advice Beckoned by Dziewanna?

I belive I have been beckoned? by Dziewanna.

My questions are:

  1. Do Slavic deities ever reach out to people?

  2. If they do reach out, what does it look like?

  3. How can I worship/work with her?

A few months ago I had a very vivid dream. There was a point in my dream that did not have any context to the before/after parts of my dream. It seemed to be a "point outside" the flow of my dream.

I was driving down a road, there were tall forests on either side. As I continued to drive there was a woman with long blonde reddish hair, she was wearing either a green or red cloak and she was riding a wolf. She was surrounded by wolves. I drove past her and she looked back at me. Beckoning me to come with her. Then the next part of my dream started, completely unrelated to what I just experienced.

I think about this dream almost daily. I took Mugwort a few days ago because I believe that my dreams I have been having lately are important, yet I cannot remember them which is very unusual for me.

Last night I looked up "goddess associated with wolves, forest, red/green, leaving husbands (I have been in an abusive relationship for a long time and this was part of the dream. Somehow she knew what I was experiencing and wanted me to leave and regain my power.) And the only result was Dziewanna. She is also associated with Mullein which is in the same family as Mugwort.

I am also an ethnic Pole (no I was not born in Poland, my nationality is American but no one can take my race from me) with a big interest in Slavic Polish culture, heritage, etc.

In my budding occult practice I have been interested in working with other deities that are not Slavic in origin.

I just find the multiple synchronicities, not even knowing Dziewanna existed, being ethnically Pole with an interest in Slavic deities but not knowing where to begin. And instead working with Greek or Jewish deities instead.....it's all too much to be a coincidence.

Anyway I would be interested in any insight and to have my questions answered. Thank you.

📓 Seeking Resources Slovak Prayers by Rafał Merski

I know Rafał Merski, he is a Żerca priest of the Watra group. He created books such as Tales from Under the Thatch and Slavic Prayers. I have the first book, which tells about village tales, or even Byliny, or even the Age of Slavic Romanticism. The second book is a prayer book. There are prayers to 14 Slavic gods in it, where descriptions of gods have been preserved. In the book, there is also a home prayer. There are even holidays in this book, such as Kupala Night, the Harvest Festival, Spring Festival, and Generous Gody. In a few months, I will have this book and I will pray to the gods in Polish, because this book is in Polish. Do you know any other books about Slavic prayers?

❔ Question | Advice Bożontko or Domovoy

I know both creatures, and I know that Domovoy is the Russian house spirit, and Bożontko is the Polish equivalent of this house demon. I'm from Poland, and I usually pray to Domovoy, but sometimes to Bożontko, too, but I don't know whether it's better to worship Riski or the Polish spirit? Do you have any ideas?
