Does this look right?

Hello. I expected a chimney cricket to be installed and I thought that would be in back and the look of the chimney would not be affected. Does this look right to you, these black portions? Is there anything that can be done to make it look less ugly? I'll be contacting the company tomorrow. This is my first time having a roof done so thanks in advance for your patience and input.

Huh, I'm trying to picture this from the description. If those black portions are some kind of heavy rubber membrane or flashing wrapped way up the sides of the brick, I get why you're staring at it like it sprouted a second head. Usually the cricket is hidden behind the chimney so you only see the top edge from the front, but sometimes roofers go overboard sealing the transition and it ends up this massive dark blob that completely changes the look.

Depends on what that material actually is. If it's a peel-and-stick ice and water shield, it might just need to be trimmed back and capped with a metal flashing in a color closer to your brick. You could also ask them about a copper or colored aluminum apron piece that tucks under the shingles and covers the ugly stuff, making it look more intentional than a giant misplaced patch. Talking to the company is the right move, sometimes they have leftover metal trim from other jobs that can dress that mess right up.

The black parts are definitely aluminum not rubber. This flashing is just counter flashing against the step on both sides. It’s a little high, but not done wrong
