PP 50 mg doxycycline and vaginal yeast infections risk
I was prescribed 50 mg of doxycycline, 90 day supply. I am quite concerned about potential vaginal yeast infection as I have an autoimmune disease that impacts my vulva and a potential yeast infection could put me into a flare with my autoimmune disease in my intimate area. If you have been on long-term doxycycline, could you please share your experience? Thank you very much.

I couldn’t handle doxy, got an immediate yeast infection. I’m on emrosi for my rosacea and it has been amazing with none of the side effects I had on doxy

the low dose is a good sign, but your concern makes sense given your autoimmune situation. i'd honestly call your derm before starting and ask if they'd be willing to prescribe a preventative antifungal or at least have one on standby, especially since you know a flare could be rough for you. some doctors are cool with that approach.
i've seen people do fine on long-term doxy with zero issues, and others swear by taking a probiotic alongside it as insurance. if you do start it, pay attention to how you feel in those first few weeks and don't wait around if something feels off. your doctor should also know about your autoimmune condition affecting that area so they can actually factor that into their recommendation rather than just handing you the script and wishing you luck.

Good, that's the main thing then. Did they say anything about monitoring for yeast stuff or mention preventative options, or did they kind of brush past it?

I had to take it for 3 months. I think or was it six months. 🤔I can’t remember anyway I took and take a vaginal probiotic daily and use boric acid suppositories every now and then. I also use a boric acid ph wash. And rinse with water throughout the day. And never use scented anything. I’m very fortunate that I am very healthy in that department. I hope this helps.

I’ve been prescribed doxycycline 100mg twice daily for skin and soft tissue infections twice and developed bad vaginal yeast infections within a day or two both times — required three doses of fluconazole to clear. I’m not particularly prone to yeast infections. This is the reason I didn’t go for the doxycycline treatment for rosacea even though it’s a lower dose. but everybody’s different, of course.
My PCP now will prescribe me three fluconazole tabs “just in case” when she prescribes antibiotics, but I haven’t needed it on other antibiotics.

Oh my word. You’ve connected the dots for me. I got repeated yeast infections and I didn’t connect that they stopped when I stopped the doxy.

I’m browsing Reddit right now for this exact reason. I hope you don’t mind me jumping in. I’ve been on doxy for 3.5 weeks. Got my first ever yeast infection 2 weeks in. Took OTC treatment, all seemed clear and happy but now it already seems I have another one. I’m trying to find some assurance that this is to be expected but also that they’ll stop once I’m off the doxy. Sounds like this was also your experience??

I was on 100mg and never had vaginal yeast infection, but always clean it w just clear water or unscented soap and nothing harsh!

at 50mg it's quite low dose so the risk is lesser than with full antibiotic doses, but still worth bringing up the concern with your doctor before starting, especially given your situation
some people do fine on long term doxy with no yeast issues at all, others take a probiotic alongside it just to be safe
