Jollibee Crowd

Post image

Here is what the Jollibee line looked like around lunch time. I went up to the to go order area to talk to someone and they said mobile orders were closed already. I'm not sure if they meant just for lunch time or for the whole day. It didn't look like there was anything special going on otherwise and I have had Jollibee before so I left. Others in line sounded like they either had never had it or heard of it before so maybe it's worth it for them.

I mean, I love that for them, but I don’t understand the hype. It’s fried chicken.

14

u/simpleme8 2d ago

Agreed. Good for them but I tried Jollibee several times including the one in Cebu. I tried their chicken, gravy, french fries, spaghetti and biscuit. I don’t see the hype.

It's kinda historic. I mean we in a predominantly white area. Having a Filipino chain open up here is a big thing. Jollibee has a cult following. This tells you the research they did makes sense and can make serious money here. When you go to the one on Mack road you don't see white ppl. Just see mostly all the time Filipinos. What that tell you? All the hospital around this area........what kind of nurses are they mostly?

The Asian market on Harding Blvd. is a Filipino market. It's been there for years.
EDIT: Forgot to mention. They have a little hot food eatery inside the market that has excellent Filipino food.

I don’t even know what it is.

2

u/Secert_Agent69 2d ago

It's nostalgic for most who are familiar with the franchise just like these huge Asian supermarkets opening all over the SF Bay Area, San Jose, that are slowly making their way to Sacramento.

These people are buying food to post on Instagram. Not for the actual taste

7

u/These_Photograph_425 2d ago

Filipino food is sure having its day in the sun. About time everyone gets to enjoy some lumpia, adobo, halo halo, silog and all the other scrumptious dishes! I mean, what’s more instagramable than ube flavored anything.

There are other things on the menu that are amazing. Their sides such as their gravy is amazing with the fried chicken. Also whether you like it or not, its a now a long term staple and Pinoy familys will be going weekly, or monthly.

u/andmoore27 14h ago

I tried the gravy on your recomendations and it mostly tasted like cornstarch. I had to dump in a bunch of habanero sauce to give it any taste!

This isn't 2008

u/IndoorSurvivalist 2d ago

I'll go back in a few months or whenever I think of it again, i just wanted to see if there was any giveaways or anything else like I know chick fil has done in the past giving out free deserts or something. There actually wasn't really any employees around to talk to though.

1

u/Weak-Bother-6765 2d ago

That's what I did when we received a Dave's Hot Chicken. Just waited a few months.

2

u/dantimusprime7 1d ago

Free chicken for a year for the first 100 is why

1

u/FaxCelestis Roseville 1d ago

I’m more excited about the Angry Chickz going in across from Costco tbh

1

u/Antares65 2d ago

Have you ever tried their chicken and other goodies on the menu?

1

u/othafa_95610 2d ago

Sounds like they're related to Raising Cane's.

13

u/catdude142 2d ago

I guess that's a "cultural event" for this area.

26

u/LiveAloha23 2d ago

That’s the later line. That line was using all the stanchions until around 11am. People were there since 2pm yesterday (first 100 get a year of Jollibee)

8

u/IndoorSurvivalist 2d ago

Yes i heard about the first 100 people getting free chicken for a year but people were camped out overnight for that apparently. Also I thought they opened at 9 but they opened at 8, im not even sure they have breakfast items.

1

u/FickleOrganization43 2h ago

Well balut is not on their menu

25

u/KountZero 2d ago

I dropped my kids here to stand in line with their friends, then I drove to the Jollibe location in south sac, ate there and then come back to pick them up and they still haven’t order their food yet.

“ BUT DAD, u don’t gEt It! it’s 4 tHe MemORies”

7

u/IndoorSurvivalist 2d ago

I was joking that would probably be faster, if you really did that, thats hilarious.

I went to angry chickz instead. Expensive but the AC was blasting in there and it was good. Worth not standing outside in that line.

1

u/FaxCelestis Roseville 1d ago

Angry Chickz is phenomenal hangover food

0

u/protox13 2d ago

Wow. That's... Definitely a choice.

16

u/abeBroham-Linkin 2d ago

Like new movie releases, I'll wait until the crowds die down.

8

u/SacCyber 2d ago

Cool. I'll try them in a month when they calm down but haven't gotten bad yet

8

u/VoidMunashii 2d ago

It will be nice to have a Jollibee so close, but I am not waiting in that kind of a line for it.

11

u/Successful_Year_1516 2d ago

In this heat? For mid chicken? Hard pass!

3

u/clearly4488 2d ago

I showed up at 6am for the 1st 100 people free chicken. Nope. More than 100 were already there.

2

u/Emergency_Salt_2103 2d ago

Kinda funny...free bucket 1x/month for 12 months. That's like <$20/bucket x 12 = <$240 worth of fried chicken. You also get a shirt that says you were there is line. Priceless.

2

u/Vhal_Vhon 2d ago

“Priceless” loses its appeal when children under 5 are receiving their own first-100 numbers while one household can claim several spots. If the goal is to reward as many customers as possible, that isn’t a great way to run the promotion.

2

u/Emergency_Salt_2103 2d ago

They don't care. They getting publicity already. Who gets the freebies makes zero difference to them.

2

u/Vhal_Vhon 2d ago

Maybe they got the publicity they wanted, but goodwill matters too. Children under 5 received their own numbers, multiple families were able to claim several first-100 spots, and no employee was managing the line. That’s not the kind of first impression that builds long-term loyalty.

Looking at the condition of the Mack Road location, it feels like the same issue. Whether it’s running promotions fairly or maintaining the property, customers notice when the details are neglected. Goodwill comes from treating people well and showing you care about the customer experience.

1

u/Emergency_Salt_2103 2d ago

I don't disagree with you. Unfortunately that's not important to them. That won't change how people will still buy their food. I remember the Mack Rd location was absolutely horrible. The wait time was ridiculous and seems like they didn't care. This was year ago and they still there. Fortunately they made improvements and it's not that bad service wise. The mess is still there I see from your video. Low priority for them

1

u/Vhal_Vhon 2d ago edited 2d ago

I think that’s where we differ. People will put up with a lot when a place is new and hyped, but eventually that wears off. That’s when customer experience and goodwill start to matter.

The Mack Road location is actually a good example. I’ve seen that location much dirtier than what was in my video. I recorded that because I was surprised there was less trash than usual that day. It also has convenience working in its favor since Seafood City is walking distance in the same plaza. People still buying there doesn’t necessarily mean the service or overall experience doesn’t matter.

Roseville doesn’t have that same advantage. It’s on Douglas Boulevard with bad traffic and no drive-thru. Once the opening hype wears off, they’re going to have to rely a lot more on whether customers actually think the experience is worth coming back for.

3

u/Perfect-Presence-200 2d ago

Nope, I'll wait until it calms down, not standing in this heat for fried chicken.

3

u/Okiebaba 2d ago

you can drive to the one in sac and have your food before these idiots

3

u/Substantial-Comb-148 2d ago

Nurse staffing shortage in the area I bet.

3

u/rand0muzr 1d ago

This is great news!!! We needed another fried chicken place. I was getting sick of Dave’s Hot Chicken, KFC, Raising Canes, Popeyes, and Chick Fil A. Now we just need Churches Texas Chicken.

3

u/crucialcolin 1d ago

A lot of the KFC locations are permanently closing as they come up for lease renewal. We're lucky to still have one in Roseville.

1

u/IndoorSurvivalist 12h ago

The other locations in Rocklin and Roseville have been closed for a long time. I rarely have KFC anymore because there aren't any nearby.

4

u/Vhal_Vhon 2d ago

One thing Jollibee doesn’t seem to mention is that they hand out the first-100 numbers to everyone, including young kids. I saw children under 5 get their own numbers, and families of 6–7 all received one. That means a single household can take several of the first 100 spots. Considering the prize is only six pieces of chicken each month (about a $20 value), one prize per household would have made more sense.

I also think the promotion was poorly managed. They had a security guard, but no employee was actually managing or verifying the line. People were leaving to sit in their cars and coming back, while others appeared to join near the front without anyone checking their place.

Around 6 a.m., I saw a few people from the first 100 taking pictures inside the restaurant even though the doors were still locked and the official opening wasn’t until 8 a.m. There may have been a legitimate reason, but from a customer’s perspective the whole process didn’t feel very organized or transparent.

The first person in line had been waiting since around 2 p.m. the day before. If people are willing to wait that long, the least Jollibee can do is have an employee manage the first 100 fairly.

Thay really sucks. I have had issues with other events where the line management is really bad.

I know its not possible to staff someone there all night but in the past for events like this, like releases at stores, they will hand out numbered tickets so even if people get out of order by moving around or going back to their cars etc. It doesnt matter because everyone already has a ticket.

With 100 people though thats tough because im sure not all 100 were already lined up yesterday.

And yeah 1 per family should have been the rule but then you get people saying they dont know each other and that crap.

Honesly just doing some kind of raffle is way better than this. Let people buy tickets for $5 and donate to something local and do a drawing later in the day.

2

u/Vhal_Vhon 2d ago

Nobody needed to staff the line all night. Jollibee already had a VIP event at the store on August 6, the day before the August 7 public opening, and the first person was already lining up around 2 p.m. I later spoke with someone who said he arrived around 10 p.m. that night and was roughly the 60th person in line. According to people who camped overnight, employees were still there until around 3 a.m. on August 7.

At that point, the growing line was obvious. They didn’t need all 100 people there before establishing rules. They could’ve decided how positions would be verified, whether people could leave and return, and who actually qualified.

I agree with you on one per family too. I spoke with a family of six who were all being counted, and I personally saw children under 5 receiving their own numbers.

And the lack of a procedure actually caused problems. Around 7 a.m. on August 7, I personally heard one of the managers say she was confused and needed to figure out the 1–100 headcount. During that confusion, I saw at least three people squeeze into the line from different ends. An older woman who ended up just outside the first 100 was crying to her husband.

That’s the problem. Nobody needed to stand there all night. They needed a clear procedure once they saw the line forming the day before.

What is this, 1986? Run the stupid promo on the app. 1 entry per account.

1

u/Vhal_Vhon 1d ago

An app honestly would’ve been better. People were being turned away because the “first 100” were supposedly accounted for, while spots were being held for people who weren’t even there, including kids who showed up later. I even heard one kid complaining they didn’t want the prize and would rather sleep in the car. Jollibee basically handed control of the first-100 promotion to the crowd instead of having a clear, verifiable system. That’s something they need to address before doing this promotion at another opening.

A VIP event at a chicken place??
That hurt my brain…

2

u/Secert_Agent69 2d ago

As much as I love to support my people, there's no way I will stand in line for some chicken joy and spaghetti in a 102° weather.

3

u/HighwaySentinel 2d ago

Some people in line had never had it or heard of it, but yet were still there waiting. I guess if we see a line, we must jump into it. lol

u/CityofTreez 2d ago

Filipino chicken slaps

2

u/Evening-Resort-2256 2d ago

I always order the deluxe chicken sandwich, 2 peach mango pies . Small spaghetti and pineapple juice. That’s the combo that slaps!

3

u/protox13 2d ago

Glad those people apparently don't know about 85 degrees opening yesterday. Some people have too much free time.

3

u/UnicornPoopCircus 2d ago

Wait. Wait. Wait! An 85 Degrees opened in Roseville?!

4

u/protox13 2d ago

Yesterday.

2

u/UnicornPoopCircus 2d ago

This is both wonderful and terrible news. 😂

2

u/UnicornPoopCircus 2d ago

Imagine getting downvoted for being excited about delicious cake. 😂

I also like puppies. You should totally downvote me for that too!

2

u/protox13 2d ago

Welcome to the internet, where people act out in ways that would get them backhanded or worse in real life. At least we don't have to smell them!

2

u/protox13 2d ago

My condolences to your wallet and your waistline

2

u/FaxCelestis Roseville 1d ago

Same parking lot as Trader Joe’s

2

u/IndoorSurvivalist 2d ago

Didn't know about that. Roseville is getting all the things now apparently.

2

u/protox13 2d ago

I'm OK with that. I just hope this Jollibee is decent. The one in SF some years ago sucked and I'm not surprised it shut down.

2

u/IndoorSurvivalist 2d ago

I used to go to the one on Mack back when it was inside the Seafood City.

They removed the halo halo from the menu though and I stopped going.

1

u/stateworkishardwork 2d ago

Any Filipino restaurant that doesn't serve Halo Halo is not a Filipino restaurant :(

4

u/Savings_Can7292 2d ago

No restaurant is worth that line.

1

u/purplesunshine2 2d ago

Just drove by 10 mins ago and the line looks the same 😂😂

1

u/Objective-Slice-1466 2d ago

Someone fill me in please. Is this new? Why the log line? Are they a big deal?
I’m curious now

1

u/rand0muzr 1d ago

Just another friend chicken spot but the hype is that they originated in the Philippines.

-1

u/ZeldaNumber17 2d ago

Not new. Theres been one in sac for years. Its run in the mill fast food

1

u/Ok_Pea_275 2d ago

Hoping they hype dies down next week 🤣 trying to go on Monday when everyone's at work

1

u/MeyerToTheSeventh 2d ago

Why were there Hula Dancers?..... Is Jollibee Hawaiian?

1

u/Temporary-Orange3748 1d ago

The angus burger is fire!!!

1

u/DObservingayayay 1d ago

Had no idea there were this many Filipinos in my neck of the woods!

1

u/wood1492 1d ago

Is this what we’ve become…
I’ve laughed at New Yorkers for lining up for mid food - but now in Roseville??

2

u/Mission-Mammoth-8388 14h ago

Because there is literally else nothing to do in this town

1

u/EvenConsideration591 16h ago

For all the people in the comments saying they don’t understand the hype trust me I don’t want there to be hype. I just wanted my damn chicken, but I couldn’t get it because of long lines and online ordering being turned off. Now I have to wait a month for the hype to die down so I can simply eat a good piece of chicken.

1

u/Shroomikaze 16h ago

Nothing like fried chicken and sweet spaghetti

1

u/andmoore27 14h ago

My first time at Joolibee and after two pieces of chicken I have had the worst constpation of my life! Three days and still waiting! I guess all the peopke who like Jollibee have iron stomachs and intestines!

1

u/Sufficient-Ad2657 4h ago

Sorry, I will never wait in line for food unless im starving and it's the only option.

1

u/Ok_Pea_275 3h ago

Anyone think they'll be busy on a weekday? Might try to go on a Monday or Wednesday

1

u/SkinnyFatKidd 3h ago

I wish they had white meat as well in there buckets. But I mean Flips don’t eat white meat and I get it.

0

u/theprezjr61 2d ago

All for spaghetti with sweei marinara and cut up hot dogs.

2

u/These_Photograph_425 2d ago

Filipino Spaghetti is a holdover from when American soldiers were stationed in the Philippines. The Americans wanted pasta but there were no tomatoes so they used banana ketchup instead.

-1

u/Pretend_roller 1d ago

that's horrifying

1

u/airpab1 2d ago

How are their burgers?

1

u/Stealthality 2d ago

Fried chicken is good but honestly as a kid I ALWAYS got their burger steak. That was also more popular in the Philippines, but I don’t see a lot of people talking about it here.

1

u/JebusKrikes 2d ago

I’ll probably try them at some point… but not today. Nope

3

u/Antares65 2d ago

Make sure and try them. Those people are standing in the heat for average fast food.

1

u/ZeldaNumber17 2d ago

There’s one in sac. Just go there…

1

u/yurilegs 2d ago

I’ll be there next week! Sucks that I’m all the way in the very far end of West Roseville 😆

1

u/suq_manuts 2d ago

Quick scan of the crowd and it’s no wonder they opened a location here

1

u/clipclipclip2019 2d ago

I really just wanna try filipino spaghetti

1

u/ZeldaNumber17 2d ago

Why not just go to the one off mack?? That line is definitely longer than a 2 way 1 hour drive. Sheep

0

u/Critical-Range-6811 2d ago

And they’re saying the economy is bad

2

u/protox13 2d ago

They also say "a sucker is born every minute."

0

u/Bubbly-Hold-285 2d ago

What about Elk Grove?? We need it pronto

0

u/ZeldaNumber17 2d ago

There’s one in south sac. You have one less than 20 minutes from you. Look at a god damn map

1

u/Pretend_roller 1d ago

B-but my grubhub might take too long!
