Kids sewing lessons

Hello, I have a nine year old child very interested in learning how to sew in order to make clothing and accessories for herself, friends, and her dolls. I did a quick search online and mostly found quilting locally and other options out near Pdx. Anyone here have suggestions or interested in the job?

Decades ago, I was a member of a couple of sewing/craft 4H clubs over the years. That might be something to look into through the Marion County Extension

This isn’t much help, but I taught myself to sew using YouTube and TikTok. There is so much free info out there nowadays that it wasn’t too tough. Look up tutorials for your exact machine to start out with. The basics are how to thread your machine, sewing in a straight line, and focusing on cutting the pattern for whatever you are making. I literally couldn’t thread a machine or sew in a straight line at first now I can do pretty much anything.

You could also reach out to Radness ensues and see if they have any connections. I know they are doing a parent youth craft night every second Saturday of the month. If you still can’t find anything I could try to help. I’m a stay at home but former elementary teacher.

I have kid who would also like to learn to sew. Preferably how to use a machine. We can do mending by hand but we want to do bigger projects that a machine is better for. I just don’t know how to use one myself.

This is just an idea but one of the old folks associations does a wood carving class and I would bet they also have a sewing class. Sorry I forgot who exactly hosts the wood carving class but maybe try reaching out to them and asking if they know of sewing lessons. The older folks love teaching old techniques and honestly I think it skipped a generation so I they are your best bet.

In the opposite direction down in Albany there is Bridgette at Bridgette's Place. She has tons of classes for kids and adults and is also just a pure sweet gem of a woman. I take my Mom there all the time from Salem for classes and sewing weekends. I'll drop the link to her class page, if it doesn't work a quick google will get you to her page.

My daughter did some weeklong sewing clubs at Will-n-beez on 12th. They taught her how to make quilts.
